Getting Together

 Hello all,

Hope everyone is doing well this Thursday morning.  We had a delightful evening at Bonnie & Zhongren's last night.  Anna was there (and Otto) and Mailing got there a little later.  It was so nice to all be together again.  Dinner was delicious (ribs, grilled sausage, green beans [from our garden], marinated eggplant, pickled veggies, and a Swedish almond cake for dessert...also wine [of course]).  I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures of food!

However, I do have pictures from their back yard.  I know I have shown these before, but everything is just so nice that I have to show it again!  Here is the shed that Zhongren built:

 Love the windows and door!

And here is his garden:

The little well on the left is new.  He collects rainwater up near the house and then pipes (underground) it down to the well for watering his garden.  The arch in the center is where his cucumbers are growing.  Some of them were at least 18" long!!  He also is growing beans, tomatoes and some other things.

And here is Otto!

And that's it for today.  A quick post as I need to get to work.  Have a wonderful Thursday!

  1. I'm glad you had a lovely evening and I always like seeing and hearing about Zhongren's work. The garden shed is beautiful, and his garden is a work of art! That well is especially ingenious and lovely to look at also. I just showed John the photo because he always plants too much, too close together. With all the humidity and rainfall this year, ours is a jungle, with mildew and fungus on almost everything. It's about the same size as Zhongren's garden but not nearly as neatly arranged. Next year!

  2. It sounds like you had a wonderful evening! That garden shed is so beautiful but that rain collection system sounds incredible!

My few tomato plants look to be producing a bumper crop of tomatoes! I can hardly wait!

  3. How nice that you had time with Mailing and family. Their back yard is so neat and functional, and that shed is charming. What a feat of engineering for that well!

  4. Okay. THAT SHED!!! It is so charming and lovely -- and functional, too. The vegetable garden is perfection -- and that little (again, functional!) well is just fabulous. What a pleasure to visit a garden like that! And . . . you are on a roll these days with all your visits and connections! What fun for you. XO

  5. Hello Otto! Love that shed. Our cukes were mismarked and quite wonky. No idea what type they are. Saw a mention on IG about Japanese pickles with soy, rice vinegar, chilies, and ginger. She has them with rice. Love soy sauce so will give it a try.

  6. Hi Otto! He looks like a lively chap who's always up for a game of fetch.
That shed is so adorable! I want to live in it (if it had AC).

  10. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time last night. I'm sure you enjoyed seeing everyone again. And that backyard. I am in love with that sweet little shed. The garden is sheer perfection. No weeds to be found and the well makes it even sweeter. Sometimes I miss our yard in Spokane a whole lot. It was much like this one. But I would never want to have to work outside in the humidity that comes with living here.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
