Unraveled Wednesday 3/15/23

 Good Wednesday Morning!

How can it possibly be the middle of March?  Time is hurrying by faster and faster and I can hardly keep up!  Our winds are still strong and it is a chilly start to the day (32). but our temps should be gradually warming up a bit.

Mid-week and time to link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to discuss making and reading.  Two favorite things for sure.

If you read my blog post on Monday, you know that the Trekking socks are off the needles and have already been worn.  In their place, I immediately started the Pi Socks using the Pi yarn (Wild Atlantic Pi) that I ordered from Fibernymph Dye Works.  The skein came with a mini which I am using for the cuff, heels and toes of the sock.  The first one is coming along:

A bit more than halfway down the leg, heading to the heel.  I threw in the CD that we listened to during dinner last night so that you could see how well my knitting matched the cover - LOL.  Mary often matches her nail color or knitting to the book she is reading, so I'm following suit with a CD case and yarn.  (And, yes, we do still listen to CDs, along with the radio and Spotify - good to have options.)

On the reading front, I set aside Love Songs for a little bit because two new books finally came in for me (and I cannot renew them...plus I needed a break from Love Songs...becoming a bit of a slog).  First up is Signal Fires and wow!  What a book; what a punch it packs!  I stayed up past my usual bedtime last night and finished it.  I know there is still a long wait list for this one, so I plan to drive over and return it to the library this morning.

The other new book that came in for me is The Queen of Dirt Island which I hope to start today.  I've heard both positive and negative reviews of this one, so we shall see.  I also still need to finish up "The Shipping News" for our discussion next week and then get back to Love Songs and wrap that sucker up!

Tomorrow I will head to the office.  We are having a luncheon - the first since before Thanksgiving, so that should be nice.  I'm not sure who is catering this time, but the food is always good!

Dee sent me a link to an article about the rise in pick-pockets in Tredyffrin Township which is where my office is...and also Trader Joe's.  In fact, one of the reported incidents occurred at the TJ Maxx store in the Gateway Shopping Center which is where TJ's is.  I plan to go there tomorrow, so I will be on high alert!

Hoping this Wednesday finds you all well and enjoying life!

  2. So glad you enjoyed Signal Fires! I know we often have drastically different taste in books, but that is one that everyone seems to enjoy.

The sock is looking great and does indeed match the CD well!

  3. Sock try #3 is going well... I began the leg last night after dinner.

I am so glad that you enjoyed Signal Fires as much as I did! :) And I just got on the waitlist for The Queen of Dirt Island!

  4. You are knitting your Pi sock quickly and it is looking good! I'm glad you like Signal Fires; it's one of my all-time favorite books and I'm often looking for something that can match up in terms of emotions and all-around wonderfulness. I'm also reading The Queen of Dirt Island and it's a lovely gentle beginning so far. Happy Wednesday!

  5. I'm so glad you enjoyed Signal Fires, Vera! I really enjoyed it -- so much that I read it twice in a row!!! ;-) I really liked The Queen of Dirt Island, too. What great books you have on your "list" right now. (We still have CDs, too, although we got rid of our stereo system, so need to dig out the boom box when we want to listen to them. Mostly we use Spotify and our Sonos system to listen to music, but I miss the cover art on CDs and album covers . . .

  6. Gosh, I think the last time I listened to a CD was to have a little Christmas music. I'm embarrassed to say that it took a little rearranging/digging to get to the CD player in the stereo part of our cabinet. We have so, so many CDs; it's a shame that neither of us even has a player in our car, either.

  7. I still have all my CDs, but I can't say I've listened to any of them in a while. I actually got youtube premium a couple months ago and it is great. I've been busy adding all my favourite albums.

The new socks look great! I've barely touched my knitting. Just too much going on right now.

  8. That's a good looking sock!
I have a closet full of CD's. No one listens to them since we got the Echo but The Mister won't part with them. We don't even have a CD player anymore. Same with his albums. We've got crates and crates of them that on one touches but he swears they will be worth something...someday. Lol.....

  11. How fun to match your knitting to a CD! (how fun to play CDs! the only player I have is in my car ... needless to say, I don't listen to them anymore) So glad to read you enjoyed Signal Fires and (like I just wrote Bonny) I can't wait to see what you think of Queen of Dirt Island ... I do love a book with mixed reviews :-)

  12. I'm in the same shape as everyone else, I have a ton of CD's, didn't downsize them as I couldn't bear to, but we have no player. Neither the car nor the truck has one and our little boombox died a few years ago. Usually I just turn YouTube on and pick an artist. It will play their music non-stop if I choose. Or I can choose a genre.
I hope you enjoy your lunch tomorrow. We had pie in the community room downstairs yesterday for Pi day and today was a craft/hobby open house. Everyone displayed their hobbies for all to see. It was a lot of fun to see the different things people do with their time. Lots of people do diamond painting which I think is interesting because I just bought my first four kits, one for each season to hang outside our door. Now I know I have a lot of people to ask for advice if I can't figure it out!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  15. The colorway of the Pi socks is so pretty. My son once gave me a Bose CD player/radio. It lives on the kitchen counter with a basket of CDs. It has such good sound quality, I wouldn't think of getting rid of it. I use it quite often.
