Hello My Friends!
How are you this cloudy (here in Eastern PA) morning? It's above freezing, so that is a good thing. How was your weekend? Mine was good, though the early Saturday morning hours were a struggle. LOL Mabel work me earlyish - like 4:30 or 4:45. I went downstairs to let her out (she has taken to wanting to play hide and seek before going out which is a bit annoying). I (finally) let her out and went back upstairs, got into bed and almost immediately heard a very loud (meaning extremely near) fox. I went back downstairs opened the door and Mabel came running in from the patio - tail all big and fluffy. I went back to bed. 15 minutes later she wanted to go out. Back downstairs, I opened the door, she ran out, turned around and wanted to come right back in. At this point I noticed it was snowing. There was another letting out (this time she stayed out and I did not hear any foxes) and I managed to sleep till 6:30 or so.
Luckily the snow did not stick to anything and had actually stopped by the time I left to meet up with Dee. We had our usual lovely time together and I managed to finish the 2nd Trekking sock for Fletch while we chatted and sipped our coffee. Voila! One of the Pretty things.
Fletch even wore them on Sunday! He pronounced them great - wonderful feeling and a perfect fit!
And another pretty thing:
That's the Pi Yarn - another pair of socks for Fletch in the making and my gorgeous African Violet.
Only the ugly and gross are left - LOL. Moving into Sunday morning, we decided waffles would be a nice breakfast. I've been having some issues with my waffle maker and yesterday morning this happened.
Now that's just plain ugly! The first one sort of worked, but this second waffle was just a mess. I switched to making pancakes and the waffle maker is now in the trash. A new one has been ordered from Amazon and will be here tomorrow. (The new one has the bonus of removable plates, so will be MUCH easier to clean.)
Now for the gross. Before Fletch came downstairs for breakfast I went into the bathroom...did my business and when I went to pull up my pants discovered a deer tick on my underwear!! I just about had a fit. I don't know how it got there or when. I do know that when I got up I had put on all clean clothes - clean underwear, a clean pair of leggings and a clean shirt. Had the tick been in my dresser? Had it been on me from the day before? I'm staying vigilent looking for a bullseye and so far I have not seen one. I may just call the doctor and request a prescription anyway to be on the safe side. Since I did have Lyme Disease the other year, I will test positive for it whether or not I was bitten this time. The fact that ticks are already out and about is just another sign of our mild winter.
Today I'm running back up to the accountant's office to pick up our taxes and drop off our e-filing signed papers. This is another ugly thing...we owe a boatload this year which is not nice. I have a few other errands to run as well, so hopefully work will cooperate and stay quiet. I think more snow is predicted for us tonight/tomorrow but by Thursday it should be warm enough that Fletch is planning to grill!
I hope your Monday is off to a great start!
Okay, Vera. There is nothing grosser (or more upsetting) than finding a tick in your underwear. (I know because this has happened to me as well.) Such a nasty surprise . . . I'm glad you're calling your doctor! The knitting is fabulous -- and I love seeing Fletch in his new socks. They look great. XO
ReplyDeleteI am nodding with Kym on the whole tick business! Gah! We have been on the lookout for there here too. They are just the most miserable little buggers! Those socks are great... and yay for Pi Socks! (I have turned the heel, but I think they will be too small for Steve...)
ReplyDeleteThe pretty things are really lovely, but I am not a fan of the ugly or gross! I do love those socks and I hope your new waffle maker works better than the old one. I just read that we have a new tick species in the area (the longhorned tick) and they carry all the dreaded tick-borne diseases. Those damn ticks!
ReplyDeleteomg deer ticks are the WORSE. Glad it was not stuck on you!! love love love your socks :)
ReplyDeleteI gasped out loud when you mentioned the deer tick. I hope you're ok! Does Mabel get ticks? Oh I hope not! We owe a lot this year too, that's not fun, and I'm singing 'lalala' in my head until 4/15 when I'll pay the taxes!
ReplyDeletePS I love those socks!
ReplyDeleteTicks are disgusting creatures! I had the same problem with a waffle iron, and it met the same fate as yours. I didn’t replace mine since I only used it occasionally. Nice-looking socks!
ReplyDeleteThe Weather Channel just did a segment with an insect specialist from the U of MD and he said he's already found 4 ticks on himself this year and is predicting a worse than usual season because of the mild winter. One summer I picked at least 30 of them off of me AT ONE TIME after sitting on the lawn at my nephew's birthday party. How I didn't get Lyme disease or something worse then I'll never know. Soon after, his mom, was hospitalized with that Alpha Gal disease from the Lone Star tick. It set off all kinds of viral issues with her that she'll suffer from for the rest of her life, poor thing. I really, really hate ticks.
ReplyDeleteGreat socks and obviously Fletch likes the finished ones! It must have been in the atmosphere. Zoey had us up several times early morning Saturday too. Our old waffle iron did the same thing and I finally tossed it. I didn't replace it, the rare times we want waffles I just buy them and put them in the toaster.
ReplyDeleteBut as for the tick. Well, ick!!!! Get those meds and take care of yourself. All the time we camped in Washington we only found one tick on Chloe and it wasn't embedded. None on us. But here, the first time we went out we saw ticks. Yuck, yuck!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Oooh, yuck. I would not want to find a tick anywhere near me, but about the last place I'd want to find it is on my underwear! I am glad you're being proactive about getting antibiotics from the doctor. Have you checked Miss Mabel? Seems like with all her going in and out, she might have carried this one in.
ReplyDeleteTicks are the bane of my existence! I would call the doctor and ask for a quick cycle of antibiotics. Love those new socks!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that the deer tick was just a sighting!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a mixed bag - and sure hope the rest of the week shows more good than bad ... and that you don't see any more signs of ticks - yikes!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... that was definitely an eventful few days! Keeping my fingers crossed that the deer tick was just wintering in the dresser! Gah!
ReplyDeleteCan't figure out why with no change in our income, we owe a lot this year too! Matt's great dane pup has been getting ticks for a few weeks and she is not running loose, just in the yard for business.
ReplyDeleteOh boy. Between the tick and the taxes, you have had some ugly moments. The fox in our neighborhood bit the neighbor's little dog and he needed quite a repair. I'm amazed you can recognize the sound of a fox - yipping? It's a good thing you could meet up with Dee and finished those striped socks.
