And Now For Something Completely Different!

Good Morning!

Whew!  It is chilly out there.  My phone says 29.  Fletch covered our blueberry bush (new this year) and the Asian pear last night...hope they did ok with the much colder temps.  Our tomato seedlings are inside in pots in the downstairs bathtub - lol.

Yesterday was pretty bone chilling.  No walking and no archery.  But I did do something completely different!!  (Remember the Monty Python show from the 70's??)  I picked up a hook and crocheted a granny square!

Folks, I have not done this in 45 years!  Seriously!!  Decades ago my friend Leslie and I used to hang out on the back porch at her house with her Mom.  There was always a pot of coffee on the stove and we would drink coffee and Mom taught us to crochet.  I never made anything in high school, but while in college I did make an afghan.  It was one HUGE granny square.  That was 45 years ago and...Colin still uses it (as well as Talbot & Marcel).

I decided I needed to do something with all my sock yarn scraps.  I tried making a scrappy blanket like Dee does.  Hers are beautiful and so well done.  Mine was kind of meh.  And, I did not enjoy making it.  I decided a granny square afghan is in the works.  The square above (the only one so far...) is about 5.5" and I think that is what I will stick with.  I'll make a bunch of squares and then lay them out to see how they will look together.  I might use black to crochet them together...that is TBD.

Anyway, I'm having fun with it.  But today I will pick out yarn for the next pair of socks because the Lavender Socks of Kindness are finished!

Sock #2 was finished Wednesday night and I am wearing them today - they feel so cozy on this chilly morning.

Last night I made stir fry for dinner:

So tasty with a squirt of sriracha and soy sauce.  There was a little bit of chicken, but mostly veggies:  onions, red peppers, bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms, cashews and, of course, fresh garlic and fresh ginger.  I have no clue what is for dinner tonight - I'd best figure it out so I can take something out of the freezer.

I'm thinking I'll go into the office on Monday.  I need to make sure Tom from IT will be in and he usually goes in on Mondays.  My new laptop needs "something" done to it so that I can access our legal database.  That should be a quick fix (hoping).  And I may bring my old monitor home (new ones are huge - too big for my home office) and am thinking about my printer since my home one won't work with Windows 10.  We'll see.  I'd also like a sense of when the office may open back up because if it's only a couple of weeks, I won't bother with the printer.  Oh well, I'll worry about that later.

Meanwhile - let the weekend begin!  (After my conference call at 10.)  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

  3. Your socks are beautiful and perfect for this chilly morning! I've been thinking about a crocheted afghan myself after seeing some lovely ones that people have made, but then I remembered the four from my MiL that I don't use. Have a nice weekend and good luck going in to the office on Monday!

  4. Hello, your Lavender socks looks great, well done. It was very cold last night, I wasn't sure but I think our temp was 29°, the car windows were covered in frost. I hope all plants survive. The veggie meal looks delicious! Enjoy your day, happy weekend to you!

  5. I love your granny square! I used to crochet a LOT (mostly granny squares, or whatever I just made up on the fly) when I was in high school and college. I can't wait to see where your "new thing" takes you! Have a restful weekend, Vera.

  6. Your fresh veggies are killing me!!! I am down to half an onion...lol. Hopefully I'll get some on Monday with my delivery if not I may just have to dig out my old copy of Euell Gibbons. Just kidding.
I love your crochet memory. Sitting out on the porch and drinking coffee sounds like fun and it's just cold enough this morning to do it. I was hoping to get the spinning wheel out there but brrrrr.....not today.

  9. Crochet is my first love. I usually have at least one project going with crochet. I love your sock yarn square, it's a great way to use up all of those scraps.
Yummy stir fry too. It looks nice and healthy. We're probably eating way too many comforting carbs at our house.
I hope you're able to stay away from everyone at your office. I haven't been anywhere for so long I think I'll be in shock when I actually see people closer than across the street.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. I “tried” to crochet a few times and managed, but I didn’t have the patience to do any more than necessary. I think your idea for a scrap sock yarn blanket sounds great. Can you believe it was -11°F this morning. I’m hoping this is the LAST of the cold temperatures!

  12. I have also caught the crochet bug after 50 years. I was amazed at how it came back to me. I like the socks! They definitely say Spring! And your stir fry looks soooo good. I must do this soon.

  13. I love stir-fry dinners. My daughter and I call using up whatever veggies are around "Stir Friday." All of these crochet projects are creating a little itch to try a project with scrap yarns - maybe just a little itch. The socks are beautiful - on to the next.

I'm excited to watch the progress of your granny squares. What a blast from your past!

  16. First I hope you have some stir fry leftovers because I'm on my way over for some. It must be so odd working from home but you are lucky you can do it. I am still working when I can, not happy about going into peoples homes but very unhappy at the thought of online therapy. Love that you picked up a crochet hook! Good luck!
