Twenty-Five!

Good Morning!

It is grey and damp here.  Looking at our forecast, we are in for at least 3-4 days of rain!  We are supposed to go to Colin's Saturday for a Solstice Party, but I'm betting they cancel due to the rain.  He and Mailing are not yet comfortable with folks hanging around inside their house (which I understand).  Time will tell.

It does not look like I'll be getting out for a walk, but I did yesterday.  This time I walked at Oaks along the Perkiomen Creek down to where it flows into the Schuylkill River.  Damage from that horrible wind storm (Dericho) we had a couple of weeks ago was evident.  Plenty of debris around.  Meanwhile there was a mud puddle along the path and there were scads of tadpoles in it!

I took a brief detour off the trail and walked down the (small) cliff to the water's edge.  There is a little sandbar that I walked out on.  The water was very calm and pretty clear.  When I turned around to climb back up to the path, I saw these tree roots:

So interesting.  I saw a few turtles by the water and heard so many different birds.  I saw some redwing blackbirds and cat birds.

My floss for the sampler still hadn't arrived, so I emailed the shop.  Turns out they are waiting for it to come in - they were out of stock.  But...they had already charged my debit card.  What?  Even Amazon doesn't charge until they ship.  I was not a happy person.  Luckily I located another shop that has it in stock and ordered from them.  Once it arrives, I will cancel my order from the first shop.

Yesterday I worked a bit more on the Hellibore Hitchhiker.  I never did get around to choosing yarn from my stash for the next pair of socks.  But...I did make another Granny Square and now have completed 25!

And from the other direction:

Woo-Hoo!!  I love the way they look together.  This group roughly measures 30" square, so I'm going to need to crochet a bunch more (like at least 75) to make a good size blanket.  I guess getting started on the next 25 will be on my agenda today as well as choosing yarn for the next pair of socks.

First, however, work beckons.  It's Thursday which means I need to run a bunch of financial reports and get them out to the field.  Wishing you all a nice and easy wind down to the week.

And Now For Something Completely Different!

Good Morning!

Whew!  It is chilly out there.  My phone says 29.  Fletch covered our blueberry bush (new this year) and the Asian pear last night...hope they did ok with the much colder temps.  Our tomato seedlings are inside in pots in the downstairs bathtub - lol.

Yesterday was pretty bone chilling.  No walking and no archery.  But I did do something completely different!!  (Remember the Monty Python show from the 70's??)  I picked up a hook and crocheted a granny square!

Folks, I have not done this in 45 years!  Seriously!!  Decades ago my friend Leslie and I used to hang out on the back porch at her house with her Mom.  There was always a pot of coffee on the stove and we would drink coffee and Mom taught us to crochet.  I never made anything in high school, but while in college I did make an afghan.  It was one HUGE granny square.  That was 45 years ago and...Colin still uses it (as well as Talbot & Marcel).

I decided I needed to do something with all my sock yarn scraps.  I tried making a scrappy blanket like Dee does.  Hers are beautiful and so well done.  Mine was kind of meh.  And, I did not enjoy making it.  I decided a granny square afghan is in the works.  The square above (the only one so far...) is about 5.5" and I think that is what I will stick with.  I'll make a bunch of squares and then lay them out to see how they will look together.  I might use black to crochet them together...that is TBD.

Anyway, I'm having fun with it.  But today I will pick out yarn for the next pair of socks because the Lavender Socks of Kindness are finished!

Sock #2 was finished Wednesday night and I am wearing them today - they feel so cozy on this chilly morning.

Last night I made stir fry for dinner:

So tasty with a squirt of sriracha and soy sauce.  There was a little bit of chicken, but mostly veggies:  onions, red peppers, bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms, cashews and, of course, fresh garlic and fresh ginger.  I have no clue what is for dinner tonight - I'd best figure it out so I can take something out of the freezer.

I'm thinking I'll go into the office on Monday.  I need to make sure Tom from IT will be in and he usually goes in on Mondays.  My new laptop needs "something" done to it so that I can access our legal database.  That should be a quick fix (hoping).  And I may bring my old monitor home (new ones are huge - too big for my home office) and am thinking about my printer since my home one won't work with Windows 10.  We'll see.  I'd also like a sense of when the office may open back up because if it's only a couple of weeks, I won't bother with the printer.  Oh well, I'll worry about that later.
