Tiny Needle Tuesday

 Good Morning!

Happy Mardi Gras!!  In our house, the masks are up!

I'm not sure if we will be throwing beads today, but I'm sure there will be a bit of alcohol!!  Have you ever been to NOLA for Mardi Gras?  I went in 1980 with a girlfriend.  At the time one of my brothers was living in New Orleans, so we had a place to stay.  And, oh my!  What a party it was.  I remember needing to go to the bathroom and not being allowed in a bar because I was a female (the bar was gay).  I also remember how everything was so filthy - trash and beer, etc. in the street.  And then, Ash Wednesday we got up early to head to the airport and you would never have known that Mardi Gras had taken place...the streets were spotless - no trash or debris anywhere.  The workers had worked all night to clean up everything.

Meanwhile, it's TNT, or Tiny Needle Tuesday.  A bit of stitching got done in the past week.  Not as much as I had hoped for.  I had planned to finish the center motif, and I got close, but not all the way.

This section - and then some - should be finished by next week.  A little boring to be using the SAME color for the entire image, but once it is complete, it works well.

The cooking - or I should say baking - continued yesterday.  I made Ina Garten's Dark Chocolate Tart which has to be the easiest dessert ever.  Also EXTREMELY rich and delicious!

There are a few slivers of this in the frig and the rest has been wrapped and is in the freezer.  Plenty of chocolate for a long time!  My version does have sea salt on the top, but the flakes are so small they don't show up in the picture...but the sea salt with the chocolate = LOVE!!

I've a bit of running around to do today.  The vet was closed yesterday for President's Day, but I left a message...we are sure Tyg has worms (ugh!) and I'd like to pick up the de-worming med today (the kind we have used before is just put on similar to Front Line.  We need some new shower curtain hooks for the downstairs bathroom, so I will most likely stop at Target for those.  I need a ruler (I've looked high and low in the desk and cannot find one) and I'd like to get some sprouts for salads - if Target doesn't have them, I know a grocery store I pass carries them.  Lasagna and a salad are on the menu for tonight.

If you are in the midst of the storm, stay safe.  Our temps actually rose a bit and we had heavy rain during the night.  And that's a wrap for me.  Work was quiet yesterday and I'm hoping for more of the same today.  Wishing you all a wonderful day.

  1. That tart...! Such willpower you have to wrap and freeze some for later. Please send rain here. It would be lovely to see our foot of snow melt away.

  2. I feel lucky that we did not get the ice that was predicted, and am quite surprised that our temps will be in the 40s today! Maybe some melting will happen before our next round of snow on Thursday. I like that tree and an looking forward to seeing what comes next. I think rulers breed in the drawer at our house, so maybe get two and see what happens!

  3. I've never been, but I watched a documentary on the workers who clean up after - it's amazing. They work all night and do an incredible job.

I'm not sure if it's the same system, but we got 15 of snow inches overnight - that's on top of the 10 inches we got over the weekend. And wouldn't you know it... Dave sprained his elbow so guess who got to shovel it all!!!! AND it's still snowing so I guess I'll be doing it again in a little while.

  4. Right now your tree looks like one of those trees the cellular people put up to hide their equipment. LOL But, still mighty cute in cross stitch. Not so much in real life.

Love the mask on the clay face. Happy Mardi Gras or happy Fasnacht day if you happen to be Pennsylvania Dutch.

  5. The bitter cold still has a grip on Wyoming, but hopefully, the system will be pushed out by the weekend. The chocolate tart looks decadent!

  6. I love New Orleans. I have never been there at Mardi Gras but I've been there three times and that's a record for me. It's like no place on earth. I can't believe I forgot that today was Fat Tuesday but I guess it's just been that kind of year.

  9. I enjoyed your New Orleans story. I got to enjoy two Mardi Gras, a friend I'd met in Hawaii was in New Orleans to do MG and was staying with her parents who lived there. She called me and invited me to come stay and go to the parades with her. We were 20 and hippies and had a blast! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. Poor Tyg. I hope you get the medicine and get him all taken care of. Your cross-stitch is coming along so nicely. I read Dee's comment and laughed because I was thinking the same thing. The cell companies put towers like that up in the mountains among the pines and "think" they blend in. Ha!
That chocolate looks delicious and I feel the same way about sea salt with it. Yum!
We were supposed to have sunshine today but we got about 5 more inches of of "sunshine"! That makes about 14 inches since Sunday but it's supposed to warm up by the weekend. I sure hope the weather person is right about that. I'm ready for running water. Dennis fixed the parks spigot by putting new heat tape on it and a neighbors spigot but we have to wait for our hose to thaw out. It also completely burnt up the heating part on our $100 hose. We had to buy a new one but when it arrived today it was frozen in a circle! It's so stiff we can't get it straightened out. Oh well, it's a minor problem compared to what so many others are dealing with.
    Take care and stay warm.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. we are lacking desserts as I type this. I have never been to New Orleans and once the world is set to right my husband would love to take me there. Here's hoping your cat is cured quickly!

  13. That chocolate looks yummy! We were in New Orleans a few years ago - not for Mardi Gras - and it was nuts so I cannot imagine.

  14. That tart looks delicious! But of course being an Ina recipe, it's full of good things like butter and heavy cream!

I hope you're able to get meds for Tyg and he's feeling back to normal soon. We got the rain as well but then it got really cold, so bundle up because it's probably headed your way next!

  15. Sounds like a good day--you have it organized well! Hope Tyg feels better soon. The stitching is really striking-I like the color for the larger motif!
