Weekending

 Good Morning!

It's early still and dark.  Looking at the weather and radar, looks like we will be having snow (again) starting by 11 a.m.  But, our temps are on the rise and I'm betting by 3 or thereabouts it will just be rain.  It's been a number of years since we've had snow on the ground for this long.

How was your weekend?  Mine was filled with more domestic duties than anything else, but I'm glad to have (finally) gotten to them.  The bathrooms are spotless.  The kitchen floor has been scrubbed.  Our bedroom has been thoroughly dusted and vacuumed, as has my office room.  Some laundry was accomplished - there is more to do today, and grocuries were procured yesterday.

A (very) little knitting was done.  For being in constant play, the Yule Wave socks have to be taking the longest time EVER!

So close!  Only 5 or so rows left on the toe decrease section and then I can Kitchener up the toe and weave in the ends.  I got this close last night and just could not finish!  Instead I watched the season finale on PBS of All Creatures Great and Small.

A little stitching and some reading was done as well.  In my deep cleaning on Saturday, I came across a little gem of a book in an upstairs bookcase.  Time for Outrage: Indignez-vous! by Stéphane Hessel.  My Dad had seen him on public TV and immediately bought the book.  Hessel was a member of the French Resistance, a diplomat, writer, etc.   So many wonderful quotes in this book which was written in 2010 when Hessel was 93.  One quote from the book:

It is the duty of us all to ensure that our society remain one of which we are proud, not a society wary of immigrants and intent on their expulsion or a society in which the media are controlled by the wealthy.

An interesting and timely (still) book.  It is under 50 pages, so a very quick read.  Highly recommend.  The best part was finding a note from my Dad at the front of the book saying how he found this book so apropros of our times.

The Tygus (as Colin calls him) is doing well and was a sweet companion most of the weekend.  He pretty much leaves my stitching or knitting things alone, but he likes to be close.

Today's plans include a conference call at 10 (hopefully a quick one) and some other bits and pieces of work.  Perhaps I will even arrange to finish the sock?

Have a great week!!

  1. That sounds like a busy weekend indeed, Vera! But doesn't it feel great to have those domestic things taken care of (at least for now)? I never want to get started on those chores, but always feel so good when they're complete! Hope your week is a good one! XO

  3. Your house sounds like it's nice and clean! We're usually in NJ for just the weekend so I rarely have time to clean that thoroughly. I'm ashamed to say how long it's been since I mopped the kitchen floor, and that is not something Justin takes care of! Hope you get to finish your lovely sock!

  5. I do hope you will manage to finish the sock today -- you're so close!

We have already switched over to rain here (after getting a dusting of new snow overnight), so it's coming your way. I'm hoping we see a lot of snow melt -- I haven't been able to get to my composter for a couple of weeks now!

  6. Hello,
We had a quiet weekend. We were thrilled to see our grandson for the first time in person. I do love those socks. It is snowing again here, already looks like the ground/our path is covered again. I am looking forward to a big melt down this week. Cute photo of TYG. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!

  7. We're actually getting rain and wind and seeing temperatures above freezing this week. First time in weeks and weeks. I hope that combination gets rid of all this snow.

Tyg looks quite judgy in that photo. What did you do wrong now? LOL.

  8. Well, that book sounds like I need to read it! What a great little quote! (and sigh, work conference calls...) But I hope there is sock knitting time during it! :)

  10. The Tygus - I like that, and I’m happy that he is doing well and is on the mend. My weekend was spent much like yours although I didn’t dust.

  11. Oh my, that look! I miss having a cat around... not sure I'm ready to get another one, though. :)

  12. The look on Tyg's face cracked me up. That's definitely the kitty stink eye. I bet he just heard the weather report because that's just how I looked this morning. It's been all rain here. Cold and hard. Ugh.

  13. Aww, sweet Tyg. He looks unhappy with you, but that's normal for cats isn't it?
It's supposed to rain here all afternoon which "hopefully" will wash aways lots and lots of white stuff. I love the sound of rain on the roof so I got my chores all done this morning. I mailed my MIL's mittens to her, went to the storage unit and got yarn for a baby blanket, washed dishes, cleaned the bathroom and vacuumed. Now I can sit and crochet and listen to the rain on the roof without the guilt that I should be cleaning! :-)
    Take care Vera.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. It is always nice to have a clean house. Sometimes I just have to bite the bullet and get it done - even though I'd rather knit or spin or read or, or, or. Ha! Some projects just take a long time.

  16. I'm glad you'll finish those wonderful socks, I know you probably have a new project to cast on. What a handsome fur kid you have! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
