Rainy Monday

Good Morning!

If you were ever waiting for a rainy day, today is your day!  Geeze, I woke at 2 a.m. to howling/whistling wind and a downpour where the rain was hitting the house on all sides!  I got up and went into the bathroom and found Tyg curled up on one of the rugs.  Then, of course, he wanted to go downstairs, have some water and then (very surprisingly) he went outside!  It is still raining like crazy and I think is supposed to all day.  I'm glad I don't have to drive into work!

So, how was your weekend?  How was your Easter?  Definitely a different kind of Easter weekend.  I actually worked on Friday.  Good Friday is a holiday for my company, but I had a conference call and some reports to get out.  I shut down by 2 p.m. though which was nice.  And knitting that afternoon I was able to finish the first lavender sock.

I also started sock #2 that evening and this is where it is at presently:

Saturday I left the house by 8 a.m. to go grocery shopping.  We didn't need all that much - primarily fresh produce, wine and cat food!  It took FOREVER!  The stores now have directional arrows at both ends of the aisles and one store even had an employee directing traffic to the check-out...you were not allowed to get in line until they told you to.  Also, as of today, they will begin limiting the number of people who are allowed in the store at one time.

No walking or archery on Saturday - it was still too breezy and a little on the chilly side.  We decided to make pizza for dinner.

Before going into the oven...and I forgot to take a picture when it came out.  It turned out pretty well, though neither of us really liked the crust (I couldn't get what we usually use and went with a different frozen pizza dough...next time I'll just make my own).  These were loaded though with fresh basil, olives, bell pepper, artichokes, mushrooms, pepperoni.  Yum!

Easter Sunday dawned beautifully.  We had breakfast together and then I decided to get out early for a walk along the canal while Fletch watched Sunday Morning.  My walk started out very pretty, but halfway through I lost the sun!  The trail was pretty empty which was nice - just a couple of runners, a few walkers and a few bikers.  There were no blue herons to be seen, and only a few ducks and turtles were out.  I did, however, find a painted rock along the trail.

Fletch, in addition to putting up cedar shake shingles on the back side of the house, has started building benches for our picnic table.  The table and (old) benches are some my Dad made for us about 30 years ago!  You can see in the picture that we had to put some wood under the legs of the table as they have been rotting.  The benches too and they had become terribly warped.  I love the way the new bench looks (love the different tones of the wood).  The new ones are made out of cedar and are much lighter than the old ones.  Additionally, these benches fold (the legs fold up so they can be stored flat).  Once the second bench is finished, he will start on the table.  Colin has also asked him to make a set for them!

We did end up going over to Colin & Mailing's last night for an outside fire.  We got there around 8 and left before 9:30 as it was starting to rain lightly.  We all kept our distance, but I was happy to drop off the Canary Blanket, some frozen soup that I had made last week and a few other miscellaneous things.  It was wonderful to see them again (finally) and hard not to rush up to hug them.  But we all behaved!

So, that was my weekend.  How was yours?

As I mentioned, it is a very rainy day.  At least it is not snow (my brother in Boulder, CO texted that they got 7" of fresh snow!!).  I'm not sure what the work day holds for me, but I'm hoping for a nap later to make up for being awake at 2 a.m.!  Hope your Monday is a good one!

  1. That pizza looks so good! We've been dying for a pizza but I don't have anything to make it with.
That rain is fierce. We are waiting for that terrible wind now. We slept in the basement last night fearing for the worst. So far so good. I'm hoping our luck holds out.

  2. Hello, we had a quiet weekend and Easter! I woke up about 1am from hearing the heavy rain. It is going to be a wet Monday. Your sock looks pretty. Pizza is my favorite meal, yum! The painted rocks are becoming popular, they show up everywhere. You found a cute one, spread love. Take care! Enjoy your day, have a great new week!

  3. We've got howling winds this morning. . . A good to day to stay inside! It sounds like you had a great weekend, all things considered. And I just love your spring-y socks! XO

  4. Another almost-completed pair of lovely socks, and I like how you matched your tablecloth to them! I just got back from grocery shopping - whew. It is quite an undertaking, and it's awful to see all the bare shelves. But hey, I was able to get limes so I'll be enjoying a v&t tonight. (I guess 8:30 am is a little early.) Love the picnic table bench!

  5. Northern Colorado had howling winds on Sat/Sun night and it snowed all day Easter here! Still snowing this morning. Having snow on Easter is more the norm, than on Christmas. Wow, sitting outside with family sounds WONDERFUL. Your weekend sounds very fulfilling.

  7. I got my electricity back after a two hour outage, grrr. It was super windy here! So wonderful that you were with your son and his beloved. I bet he loved the blanket.

  8. They have been limiting people in some grocers here (mainly TJ's and Whole Foods) but it is good to know that all stores will be following suit! We had crazy storms Friday night and today as well. Stay dry!

  9. It's raining here, too. I love your socks! Such nice spring colors. And the benches are gorgeous. You have a very talented woodworker!

  10. Those socks are so pretty! They would make a beautiful gift for someone.

Isn't cedar so attractive? Its colour variation makes such lovely furniture, and it weathers nicely, too. That bench is terrific.

We had homemade pizzas on Saturday, too, with a nice bottle of merlot. Our once well-stocked wine cellar is sorely depleted. And we're getting stingy with the stuff that remains since it's from our trips to Canada, and they've closed their borders and don't ship to the US.

Raining here as well, and we've had high winds for a couple of days now. Wish it meant it was blowing the bad stuff away, but alas...!

  11. I love the curve of the leg on those benches!

It was a weird Easter! It was cold & wet yesterday -- mostly "misty" which I find aggravating (just RAIN already!). This morning, I woke up and found a dusting of snow on the ground. UGH! This is what spring is like around here...

  13. We've got the rain/storm today (though it's not bad right now, but we are supposed to get crazy wind). Relic's already been out in it twice. As long as the rain isn't too heavy, he'd rather be out than in.

    The socks are looking fabulous

Would you mind sharing your pizza dough recipe... I'm having a heck of a time with making pizza dough. The first two I tried tasted liked cardboard and didn't rise in the oven. The third one got nice and puffy in the oven, but tasted like I made the pizzas on plain white bread! I'm at my wits end. I used to buy pre-made dough from the grocery store. It's awesome, but with COVID, they aren't making it right now, and mine just isn't measuring up!

  14. I have heard that about grocery stores. I like the idea of one-way aisles.

  15. My favorite color for your new socks! So pretty. I just did my grocery pick-up this morning. It went very smoothly but I sure don't like how they loaded the groceries in the car. I like to think I'm not picky but he put the bread on the botton and two 12 packs of Pepsi on top of it! I now have two loaves of flatbread. Oh well, it's bread.
I'm so glad you got to see the kids. I know that meant a lot to you. We did a ZOOM chat with all of our kids yesterday. (Montana, Nebraska, London, Towada, and us). It's reallly amazing to me and I'm so grateful.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  16. Winter is definitely not finished with CO and WY. It’s dreary today and spitting snow again. Love your socks and the color way. I placed my first online grocery order and will pick it up tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what I’ll actually receive,

  17. Happy (belated) Easter! We had wind and rain and storms blow through about 2am this morning and Marc and I are still a little bleary eyed. Thankfully, the pollen is now gone. and the skies are so blue and clear :-) I'm glad you got to see Colin and Mailing IRL. We're still just on a FaceTime basis with family ... maybe next month?!

  18. Sounds like a pretty good weekend even with the rain. I'm glad you got to see the kids even if you couldn't give them a hug. We've done the same here. Visiting outside while keeping a safe distance. Take care and stay safe. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  19. The new picnic table bench looks great. What a good idea to make it so the legs fold up. I love the lavender socks - just right for this time of year. I made pizza last week too. I generally just make the crust.
