What's for Dinner? 1/13/22

 Good Morning!

Again, apologies, but no recipes for you.  I just baked a  ham and made scalloped potatoes (from scratch) last night for dinner.  And we had lima beans to go with it all.  Now I have a big ham bone in the frig so I can make split pea soup.  Probably Sunday or Monday when we are expecting wintry weather (snow moving into sleet/freezing rain).

First of all, thanks so much for all the well wishes and best juju for Colin & Mailing and Marcel & Talbot traveling to their new home in Austin, TX.  They made it!  Their flight was delayed (5 hours!!), but fortunately they learned that prior to leaving home in the morning.  The cats did have to come out of their carriers going through security, but Colin said it was fast and worked out better than he had anticipated.

Their furniture has not yet arrived (of course), but they flew down with camping equipment, so spread out foam pads and sleeping bags on the floor in the master bedroom.  Colin sent a picture of Talbot and Marcel exploring their new digs.  I'm glad everyone made it safely and it's nice to know that the cats won't need to fly for another 2 years!

Work was quiet again yesterday and I ran an errand or two.  I went to DSW (I'm still carrying around a $30 off coupon!), but after hitting two DSW stores, I came home empty handed.  Nothing appealed to me - or if it did, they did not have it in my size.  I'm living in slippers or if I go out, my sneakers or hiking boots.  Don't really need/want anything else.

I read a little (very little) and worked some on my stitching (but no knitting) and that was pretty much my day.  I've got my usual Thursday financial reports to run this morning, but no other plans.

Thanks again for all the good thoughts.  Hope everyone's week is winding down nicely.  Stay warm & safe!!

  1. I'm so glad to hear that your kiddos and kitt-os made it safely (and without drama) to their new digs in Austin. That's such a relief for you, I'm sure! I love Austin and have such fond memories of my time there. (HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!) It will be a nice place for you to visit. :-)

  2. I'm glad to hear that they made it safely, even if their furniture didn't yet. They were smart to bring camping equipment with them.

I hope the financial reports go quickly and you and enjoy the rest of your day!

  3. I am breathing a huge sigh of relief that your little tribe made it safely on their journey! Camping out seems so appropriate for the start of a new adventure!

    Happy almost Friday!

  4. I'm glad C&M and the cats arrived safely, and I hope their furniture gets there soon! I wonder if removing animals from their carriers at security provides an opportunity for the animals to escape? I hope not and I've never seen a poor cat running loose through Newark or Philadelphia airport. Enjoy your bean soup, we'll need it this weekend!

  5. Good news about the TX Contingent. I thought they were only in Austin for a year; I must have misread something along the way.

How smart of them to have prepared with camping stuff. Still, I hope their furniture and things arrive soon.

I often think about how nice it is that we have such great technology now, i.e. FaceTime/Zoom, to stay in touch with those far away. It's not the same as Being There, but it's lots better than watching the clock on long distance phone calls as we did way back in the day.

  9. I love scalloped potatoes. My mother made the best ones and I have never been able to make them as good.
Happy to hear everyone made it to their destination safe and sound. It must be so scary flying with your pets.

  11. I'm so glad to hear that Colin, Mailing and the kitties arrived safely. I remember when Brad & Mandy moved from Portland, OR to Washington DC with two cats and an 85 lb lab. Plus two year old Piper! I flew with Mandy and the pack because Brad was already working. That was an experience! Then they flew the cats to us in Spokane a few years later. Those babies were experienced travelers.
I hope you have a great day today and enjoy a slow pace of doing much of what YOU want to.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
