Weekending

 Good Morning!

How was your weekend?  Mine was lovely.  My Friday got a little busy work-wise, but my 10:00 conference call that day ended up being cancelled, so that was very nice.  And, we managed to do the grocery shopping that afternoon and made home made pizza for dinner.  To me, that's a great Friday!

Most of Saturday morning was spent prepping salads and baking a cake for dinner.

So yummy!!  The salads were a marinated eggplant dish with pimientos and pine nuts and then a corn and black bean salad that is a favorite of ours.  Fletch grilled delicious burgers and Colin and Mailing brought a case of beer and rolls for the burgers.  It was so nice that we had a fire in the pit.  Colin cranked up a bluetooth speaker and we yakked and played music until 10 p.m. which was fun!

Sunday was a lazy day.  I did a lot of stitching on the Quaker Autumn sampler and then discovered I was off by one single thread.  Grrrr...I ended up ripping out all of the stitching I had done in the morning and afternoon.  Not what I had intended.

On the bright side, I walked around outside some and things continue to "pop."  There is a lilac outside my office window that we brought home from Vermont a number of years ago.  It has never been a prolific bloomer, but the flowers it does produce are lovely and it is just about to open:

Our wisteria has a huge amount of buds that continue to grow in size and are beginning to show color:

Soon the air will be filled with the fragrance (and I will be sneezing more than I already am - lol).  I did not take a picture of it, but our Asian Pear tree is loaded with flowers.  Last year we had 3 flowers and 3 pears, so we are hoping for a bumper crop this year.

On the docket for today is a trip to the office.  I got a message over the weekend that my sewing machine is ready to be picked up, so I'll go to the office, have my conference call at 10 and then head to King of Prussia to pick up my machine.

First, though I need more coffee.  This is from The New Yorker and I love it!!

Rise and Grind Everyone!  Let's make this a great start to a new week.

  1. I have to say I am enjoying spring being in full swing now. Your blossoms are a little bit ahead of mine, but I'm patient!

  2. I wonder if there is any of that delicious-looking pineapple upside-down cake left for breakfast? All of the food sounds wonderful and despite being off by one thread, your weekend sounds pretty good. Happy Monday, Vera!

  3. That sounds like a great weekend, Vera. (Well. Except for the ripping-out part.) Your blossoms are a bit ahead of ours, and we're having a bit of a cold-snap so things have slowed down even more for now. That's okay -- I can enjoy your lilacs while I wait for my own! :-)

  5. That's about as direct of a coffee delivery system as can be! Love it.

Some cooler weather has preserved our blooming trees, and I couldn't be happier. What a gorgeous display they've been. Our lilacs are at about the same stage as yours.

Sorry about the destruction of the sampler work. How frustrating. But the food over your weekend more than made up for it (and the company).

  6. Love the cartoon.

Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend, except for the stitch frogging.

  7. LOL, that cartoon is hilarious!

Nothing budding here - not even the trees. Hopefully, by mid-May it will be warm enough for some green.

  8. Hello,

  9. Pineapple upside down cake is my all time favorite. Our neighbor used to make a huge one every Christmas Eve when we were kids and we would all sneak over and eat it while the grownups were being jolly with their eggnog at each other's houses.

  12. Hi Vera! Your weekend sounds wonderful, especially the time with your kids. The cake looks delicious and the salads sound the same. So sorry about the stitching though. I know how disappointing that is. We had an impromptu BBQ at my niece and nephews house yesterday for a small group. Mandy, Piper, my sister, two nieces and a nephew. It was wonderful to be with family but I'm REALLY missing Dennis.
After a beautiful day outside yesterday with temps near 70, it snowed all day today! It was so cold, but at least it didn't stick to the ground. Now a gradual warm up the rest of the week. It's crazy. Dennis says it was near 80 yesterday.
Mandy brought over a crewel kit that Piper found in the Target dollar bins. Piper wants me to teach her to embroidery! I love being so close. I got to see her both Saturday and Sunday!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. Spring is on the way. Wisteria are so beautiful. Last year wandering around the neighborhood in search of a different walk, I found a yard with a big beautiful vine. I walked by it often and so added steps to my walk. The cake looks good enough to eat.
