Hello!
How was your weekend? Mine was so nice. Another weekend that was filled with things I love: knitting, stitching, reading, napping, cooking, etc. It never gets boring to me!
I finally got around to repairing/doing some visible mending on a pair of favorite jeans. This is like a throwback to the 60's! LOL I love these jeans, but was starting to get a tiny hole and then the fabric on a seam was beginning to wear away.
I just did a random flower-like shape over the tiny hole - purposefully making it not symmetrical (which I know will drive some folks nuts, but not me). The seam was really too hard to embroider over and I remembered I had some decorative tape and voila! I love the way this turned out.
Saturday was a beautiful day to be out and about...and I was. Later it was still very nice, so Fletch built a fire and we sat out at the fire pit for a few hours. Very relaxing. Sunday was not such a nice day. But, that is the day we eat breakfast together, so I made an apple & blueberry Dutch pancake. Yum!
I'm not a fan of meatloaf, but Fletch likes it, so I made a large one for dinner (plenty of leftovers for lunches for that boy). We had that with baked potatoes and roasted Brussels Sprouts and Parsnips (I love parsnips...Fletch not so much). I just tossesd the veggies with EVOO and sprinkled on an "Everything but the Bagel" seasoning - they roasted while the potatoes baked and the meatloaf cooked.
Later in ithe afternoon I opened up my sewing machine and tried to do a mending job on one of Fletcher's jackets, but my machine would not work! I could turn the wheel by hand (but that is slow going)...the foot peddle is not working. So, Fletch unbolted the machine from the cabinet and it is now on the floor in the office room. There is a shop in King of Prussia where I have taken it in the past for cleaning and oiling (which it needs again...anyway...). They open at 10 this morning, so I will call and see if I can drop the machine off to be fixed. I may just put the machine in the car, drive to the office to do some work and then (hopefully) drop off the machine.
I did manage to wind some yarn this weekend:
Pretty, huh? The cake on the left is one I showed in skein form a few weeks back. It is from KnitPicks and is in the "Muse" line - hand painted, 75% superwash and 25% nylon. The colorway is "Enthusiasm Speckle" and it reminds me of bubblegum or confetti. This will become socks for a friend. The other yarn is new and is 100% wool from Juniper Moon Farm. Patagonia Organic Merino and the colorway is "Thistle." Any guesses as to what this will become?
Well, time to grab another cup of coffee and try to wake up. I'm having issues connecting to my work stuff, so I guess I'd really better go into the office. Tom from IT is always in on Mondays, so I can have him look at my laptop. Wishing you all a great week!
Those veggies sound yummy! What a great idea to sprinkle that seasoning on them! I love your visible mending! :)
ReplyDeleteIT issues on a Monday are never fun, so I hope they get resolved swiftly, along with your sewing machine. I love your mending! It's drizzly here in MD, but I've got loads of laundry to do and knitting in between. Hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteLove the mending on your jeans.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same Meatloaf Situation here. I'd love to drop it from the dinner rotation, but Rick loves it. Last night, I made stuffed zucchinis. We both love that. Good luck with the sewing machine repairs.
Aaah, the 60s: patched jeans, denim jackets, and prairie skirts! Your weekend sounds like it was wonderful. I’ll join Fletch for a slice of meatloaf. I haven’t eaten in in ages.
ReplyDeleteOh, Vera, I LOVE your mending!!! That little flower is perfect, and the colors are terrific with that bit of tape you used on the seam. Ali gave me a summer dress to mend for her, and I was just beginning to consider my options -- it will be a visible mend in a very visible spot -- and your use of tape gives me an option I hadn't considered. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your new projects!
ReplyDeleteI *just* bought some Everything But the Bagel seasoning on my last Costco trip, and I've been wondering what to use it for -- on roasted veggies is a great idea! We also had a beautiful Saturday and a not-as-nice Sunday, but it was still an excellent weekend. I hope your IT and sewing machine problems can get sorted out soon!
ReplyDeleteThat pancake thingy looks so good!!! Your jean patches brought back such memories. I would wear my old 60's jeans until they and the patches were rags. The rattier they looked the better in those days. Now they just let the holes hang out there. No imagination.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice weekend, hubby and I took a local walk. We had a meatloaf too. Your Blueberry/apple pancake looks delicious. I tried to make a blueberry tart with mascarpone. Your yarn is pretty, I like both colors. Have a happy new week!
it makes me so happy to see how simple things make you happy! I know I am at my most content when that its theist. Ive been a bit on edge and would like to get back to my appreciating tiny things! I'll guess more socks with the second skein!
ReplyDeleteDennis's secretary made meatloaf and mashed potatoes for him to take home for dinner today. Alicia made him navy bean and ham soup last Wednesday and he ate pizza with Jenny & Neal on Thursday. I guess I don't have to worry about him starving while he's on his own.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend sounds just about perfect to me. I do miss sitting by a fire but we found a firepit in the garage at the new house so I guess we can sit outside and enjoy a fire just like you once Dennis arrives.
I hope you got your computer issues resolved and your sewing machine dropped off to be repaired. I have a new patient appointment at a primary care doctor tomorrow to set up care so there won't be a gap in prescriptions. Then I need to go shopping for a desk that is big enough for Dennis's two 21 inch monitors. I know life will slow down eventually, but right now it's crazy.
Blessings,
Betsy
The hippie chick in me loves your mending. Now I want meatloaf! LOL! I hope he can fix your sewing machine.. I'm sure he will. Have a super week! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your mending job! I still fix my jeans in ways like that! (I guess you can't take the 60's out of us!)
ReplyDeleteThe mending is so pretty. What a great idea to use the colorful tape. I have a sewing machine that needs a good cleaning too. That is one of many things to catch up on as we can move around more freely.
ReplyDeleteI love your mending solution and it looks like it is supposed to be there! So creative :)
