Unraveled Wednesday April 21, 2021

 Good Morning All,

We are now fully vaccinated!!  Woo-Hoo!  The line was long...very long...but moved very quickly.  Everyone in line had already had their first shot.  Once again we arrived early - ahead of our scheduled time - and were in an out and on our way home before our scheduled time!  No bad side effects so far.  My arm is very sory (which I did not have with the first jab) and I didn't sleep last night due to the arm.  But otherwise all is good.  Glad to have that finished.

It was a beautiful day yesterday and when we got home from vaccination city, I took a quick walk around the back yard (before lunch and a long, long nap).  Our Redbud is gorgeous right now - probably at peak.  Hard to capture the intensity of the color, but here's the shot I took.

I couldn't get a good shot of all the Asian Pear blooms as we still have that little tree encased in a cage to protect it from deer or any other critter that would like to nibble on it.  The largest raised bed box at the back of the garden is half full of garlic coming up.  Home grown garlic is simply the best (plus you get the benefit of garlic scapes!!).

The plant in the far back left corner is a sunflower that Colin started from seed and brought over a couple of weeks ago.

Our apple tree is coming into full bloom (did not get a picture of that).  Seems to me there are more buds than there have been in some years, so I am hopeful that our tree is on the mend and will do ok.

Onward to Unraveled Wednesday doings.  First up there was unraveling - several times - but at the very beginning of the project.  Specifically the French Market Bag - oy vey!  What a fiddly start this bag is.  You start with 8 stitches on 4 DPNs and then increase every other row.  Those DPNs kept spinning around and trying their best to twist, but I finally got it!

There are now 96 stitches on the needles.  Once I get to 200 I believe the increasing stops.  At some point I will need to switch to the circular needle, but not quite yet.  I really love the color of this yarn (Thistle) and I sure hope it felts up well.

The second Beekeeper sock is coming along.

If I remember correctly, I've done 30 rows on the leg and sock #1 has 70 rows...so a bit to go before I do the heel flap and turn the heel (so magical!!).

I'm hoping today to get back to that pesky yellow border motif in my stitching, but also spend some time on both knitting projects.  We'll see...after not sleeping much, I may be dozing the day away!

On the reading front, I finished Broken Ice the 2nd in the Nils Shapiro series by Matt Goldman.  I liked the first book better, but this one was ok and I've requested the next in the series from my library.  Fletch and I started a new book after dinner last week and are enjoying it.  Radio Free Vermont: A Fable of Resistance which takes place in current times (or rather just past times - trump times) where a group is recommending that Vermont secede from the Union.  I'm enjoying this as I know so many of the places mentioned and have such ties to Vermont.

Time for another cup of coffee and to catch up on some blog reading.  Linking up with Kat for Unraveled Wednesday.  Have a great Wednesday!

  3. I hope that you can get some rest today/tonight -- for me not sleeping was the worst part after the second jab.

There are redbuds all over our neighborhood and they are my favorite thing to see at this time of year! They always remind me of those crystal growing kits that I seemed to always get as birthday presents as a kid that my mother would never let me use.

  4. The good thing about felting is that any little weirdness with your bag will disappear!! I love how that sock is knitting up.

  6. They've finally opened up vaccination for my age group (40+), so both Dave and I are on the wait-list now.

  8. Hooray for vaxx #2! And for DPNs that learn to behave.

I do like that sock, how it's knitting up. I still don't know why the colourway is called Beekeeper, but it makes a very nice sock.

  9. Congrats on jab #2!! My arm was sore for both shots but with the second it was sore and then it itched like crazy for two days. The Mister's did the same. Daughter didn't even have a sore arm at all either time.
I just noticed today how beautiful all the blooming trees are this year. I suppose that's why my allergies are killing me but they really are spectacular this year.

  10. YAY for that second jab ... and a long (very long) nap ... I'm still tired from mine! I call the start of that market bag a "belly button" and it is one of the most-fiddle-y, least favorite things of mine ... I'm sure there must be a good reason to work it bottom up, but it sure seems like it would be easier to decrease to the bottom and just pull the last few stitches tight. Love the redbud ... my neighbor has one in her front yard and I've been enjoying the heart-shaped purple leaves for a few weeks!

  11. Hooray for that second shot. The Market Bag has a great shape. I like that bright color too. The flowering trees shout Spring, don't they?

  13. Your Redbud is nice and big.. ours is little.. but I'm sure it will grow. Good job on the 2nd sock and the market bag. That will be quite the project! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. Pretty Redbud tree. And garlic! We love garlic and I use it a lot. I haven't made a market bag and after your description of the start, I don't think I want to. :-) Love that sock. I'm in the middle of turning the heel on the second sock of a set I've been working on for what seems like ages. I feel like I'm back in the days with kids at home when I couldn't seem to accomplish much crafting at all.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. Hello,
I am glad all went well with your shot. Your Redbud tree is beautiful, our looks similar. The yarn colors are looking pretty, both for the bag and sock. I hope our spring weather returns, it is cold and windy out there. Take care, enjoy your day!
