Unraveled Wednesday 7/13/22

 Good Morning All!

How are you this morning?  I did manage to get my first Shingrix shot yesterday and I have a sore arm, but nothing else.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that I woke up with vertigo this morning.  Geeze!  It's always something!  I had vertigo for the first time back in the Spring.  Fortunately, I now have a prescription, so I took a pill and went back to bed and was able to sleep for another hour.  My plan had been to go to the office today (and Trader Joe's), but at this point I can't drive, so unless things improve, I'll be home all day.

But, it is Wednesday which means it is time to link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to talk making and reading.  I'm happy to show you that one of Fletcher's Cafe Au Lait socks has been finished and the second one has been started (no 2nd sock syndrome here!!).

It's difficult to see the pattern with this yarn, but it feels great!  I'm knitting Hermione's Everyday Socks (free on Rav) on the legs.  Feet are plain.

Honestly, I don't know what my issue is, but the first sock took a month to knit!  Now I'm halfway down the leg on sock #2 in just 4 days.  My second socks always knit up faster than the first...but a month to complete a sock is just ridiculous!

On the reading side of things, no finishes for me this week.  I am now halfway through The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles.  I don't know what it is about this book, but I'm able to put it down very easily.  LOL  I'm liking the book ok, but it does seem to drag on and on and on.  I loved Towles' other books ("A Gentleman in Moscow" and "Rules of Civility") and breezed through them.  Not so much with this one.  A few of you have told me you have had the same experience with this.

Be sure to check in at Kat's to see what others are making and reading.  It is always inspiring!  Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  1. I'm glad you got the Shingrix shot but sorry to hear about your vertigo. When it happens to me, three or four repetitions of the Epley maneuver (there are a bunch of videos on youtube) and some meclizine usually help. I hope you can get some relief; that is really an awful feeling!

  2. I am so sorry to hear about the vertigo, Vera. Ugh. I've had it before, but not bad enough to need medication (I hope that works quickly for you!). I have tried the Epley maneuver with good results, though. And the Hermione's Everyday Sock is my favorite sock pattern. I love the texture, and it just gives enough of a pattern to be easy to knit without being as "boring" as a plain vanilla stockinette sock. I hope you're feeling better by the time you read this. . .

  3. I am so sorry about the vertigo, Vera... ugh, that just sucks! I don't get it often, but when I do, it is the most miserable thing! I hope you are free from dizziness soon! I need to knit Hermoine's Everyday sock...I have a skein of yarn that would be perfect for it. Once Steve's Chewie socks are done, I am gonna cast on! :)

  4. Oof, I am sorry to hear about the vertigo. I hope that passes quickly! The socks are looking good, and I suspect that Fletch will have a new pair long before it's cold enough to need them.

  5. What the heck is up with all the vertigo? So many people I know have it all of a sudden. Also scabies. I never even heard of it before our bout with the mites and now Daughter has 3 coaches at her rink with it. They had to close the staff room out of precaution.
I hope you're feeling better soon.

  6. I hope this bout of vertigo is brief! It really does seem to be going around. The dr thought mine was linked to the sinus infection I have--have a slow day if you can!

  7. I've had two bouts of vertigo this summer, and I know it's no fun. Oddly, I'd never had it before I got Covid. Coincidence?

I'm glad you had no severe reaction to your Shingrix vaccine. I'm due for my second one later this month. Not looking forward to it.

  8. The only side effect I had from the Shingrix jab was a seriously sore arm. The second jab was no big deal. I hope the medication deals with the vertigo: it’s not fun when things start spinning. Rest and enjoy the day.

  11. I need to start a sock, I just threw away a pair of my husband's that he wore out, completely unfixable. Bummer about the vertigo, not a fan of dizzy!! As always I love your socks!

  13. Vertigo! It's so awful! I hope you are feeling better already. I have The Lincoln Highway on my kindle now but I'm not sure it's the right book for summer.

  14. Well darn! This is ridiculous. Everyone seems to be getting vertigo now. You're the fourth person this week who have told me they have it. Do you think it could be related to covid? I hope the medication helps you quickly and that you continue to do fine from the shot.
I'm thinking my next pair of socks may be Hermione again. I really love that pattern.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. Hermione's Everyday Sock is great pattern. I think it looks good in all kinds of yarn colors. Sorry about the vertigo. It is no fun at all.
