Good Morning!
Once again, our promised rain passed by just to the South of us yesterday. However, it is now raining gently. Not much (rain gauge is still on zero), but the cars are wet and it is gently sprinkling. Good thing Fletch did water stuff last night.
The other day I was in the garden to pull an onion. I walked over to where the tomato plants are and when I touched the one tomato that was beginning to ripen, it came off in my hand.
We have yet to sample it - perhaps at lunch today I will slice it up to enjoy.
We do not grow cucumbers, but I love to make pickles in the summer. The other day I sliced up one cuke, a little bit of onion and added some grated ginger and red pepper flakes. Melted some sugar in white vinegar and poured that over the cuke slices.
Yum! We had some with our lunch yesterday and they were delicious.
Today my plan is to make tabbouleh. I picked up some Bulgur at Whole Foods yesterday. Salmon is on the menu for dinner and I think the tabbouleh will go nicely with that.
And that does it for me. It's Thursday and I need to get to my weekly reports that I send out. Wishing you all a wonderful day - enjoy!
That tomato looks perfect -- I hope it tastes as good as it looks!
ReplyDeleteThe first tomato is exciting (and very tasty, too)!
ReplyDeleteYummy!!! Enjoy that tomato!
ReplyDeleteBill's Mom used to make some pickles like that--he would enjoy it if I put forth the effort! Better than canning pickles all day which she did, too!
ReplyDeleteThe tomato looks delicious. Nothing in the teeny tiny garden is ready to pick yet. Your cucumbers sound much like mine except I use celery seed in mine. Have a great Thursday!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Congrats on the tomato! Nothing like one right off the vine, still warm. I love homemade pickles. I miss the pickle guy that used to come to the Farmer's Market. His half sours were to die for.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tomato! And those cakes look so tasty. I like pickling red onions for sandwiches and salads, but now I think I need to add pickled cukes to my repertoire!
ReplyDeleteWoot! What a gorgeous tomato! I think I need to pickle some cukes as well! You are ever the inspiration, Vera :)
ReplyDelete(oh... and the rain mostly missed us as well. Gosh, we need it bad!)
Tomatoes sold in the store don’t have the rich taste of those grown at home. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI've got quite a few tomatoes coming but they are all still very green
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, we never had store-bought pickles. Mom always grew cucumbers and made her own. A few years ago, I tried to make some dills (using her recipe), and they were HORRIBLE!!!!! I don't know what I did wrong, but I'm afraid to try again. May try again next year, as I should have proper veg beds then.
A tomato! You have become a farmer over there. I'm so jealous. I haven't the space to grow good tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI've already put up several quarts of refrigerator pickles (I'm not into canning) for those who love them. I'm not a pickle person, but I have lots of family who are. And pickled jalapenos as soon as mine come in.
I can't believe you have a tomato already!
ReplyDeleteso jealous of your bounty! we have a tomato plant and cannot beat the chipmunks to it :)
