Weekending

 Hello and Good Morning All,

Whew it has been HOT here.  Really miserable HOT.  And humid.  Draining.  BUT, my weekend was so nice.  It started on Friday when I didn't work and this time I really did NOT work.  I didn't check email (like I always do), I just ignored it (which means, I have a ton of catch up today, but that's ok).  So, what did I do?

Friday I did some baking (dispite the heat).  I made Basil-Lime Shortbread and also some Rhubarb Pecan Muffins.  I did forget to take any pictures of those items, but they turned out very well.  Fortunately I had gotten a lot of cleaning done on Thursday, so I just had to make up the beds for the girls with fresh sheets, wipe down the bathrooms, etc.  In the afternoon I ran out to Otts - a gorgeous greenhouse/nursery near us.  I've been wanting a jade plant which I got, but I also bought a fun Eyelash Fern:

(I found the planter at Target).  The balance of the day I just relaxed and cooked some salmon for dinner.

The girls finally arrived Saturdy afternoon.  They were pretty road-weary (roughly an 8 hour drive plus stops for nourishment and bathroom breaks).  Emmy played on her tablet for a bit and Jaimie ended up taking a nap (she had driven the entire way).  Leslie, Fletch and I just hung out and talked and talked and talked.

Since they were in PA, they wanted steak sandwiches for dinner.  We ordered from one of our usual places and the sandwiches were AWFUL!!  What a disappointment.  But, we survived.  Jaimie and Emmy went to bed early, Leslie and I sat up yakking the night away and drinking wine.

Sunday morning came way too soon and the girls had to head to Rhode Island.  Here they are in my kitchen just before taking off.

(a friend of Jaimie's made the shirts for them).  They will be in Rhode Island for a week with family and then will head back down to NC.  It was just so good to have them with us, even though it was under 24 hours.

Sunday Fletch and I just rested and relaxed.  It really was too hot to do anything.  We had cold shrimp and raw veggies for dinner.  Today I will catch up on laundry and some other things.  But first I need to crack open the work email and see what delights wait for me.  LOL

Hoping the week starts off great for all of us!

  1. How wonderful to get together with "the girls!" (Despite the awful steak sandwiches . . . ) I'm so glad you had this special 24 hours together. Now . . . stay cool as best you can. XO

  2. Love the matching shirts! I'm glad you had a good visit with them (minus the bad steak sandwiches, of course). I hope you all enjoyed the baked goods and that's why there are no photos! Here's hoping this Monday is a calm one for you and you didn't miss much at work on Friday.

  3. I am so glad you had a great weekend (sans sandwiches and the unbearable heat!) I hope some of this rain makes it way to you... it is raining here this morning and it is considerably cooler!

  4. I'm glad you had some fun during the awfully hot weekend! It's a sign that you were enjoying yourselves when you don't take photos. I love the Target planter and eyelash fern. I'd love to visit Otts (and you) someday. I'm hoping for a not-busy and somewhat calm day for you today!

  5. Except for disappointing takeout, it sounds like a nice weekend with friends and relaxation. Your shortbread sounds terrific.

We've had rain, but we're still suffering with tropical humidity. I can't draw breath outside. Ugh. Naturally, my herb garden loves it. Stuff in there is out of control.

  6. Sounds like a great visit. We got some really good rain last night, and it seems to have broken the humidity. Hopefully it stays that way for a little while

  7. Sounds like it was a success overall - steak sandwiches notwithstanding. Isn't it great when you get to see friends, even if just for a "drive-by visit" as my friend Carol calls it? Also, Rhubarb-Pecan muffins sound like absolute perfection. I wish I had some right now!

  8. Sometimes short visits are better than longer ones because you savor each minute. Love their shirts and smiles. Your new planter is perfect for the fern and makes me smile.

  9. Those tee shirts are great! I love a good road trip. It's been too hot to do much of anything here too. I won't even get in the car when it's that hot outside.
