Tiny Needle Tuesday 7/19/22

 Hello and Good Morning,

It's Tuesday and I'm running a bit late this morning.  I was awake a bit in the night (what's new, right?), but then I fell back asleep and did not wake until 7 a.m.!  That's delicious.  What a luxury!

Yesterday was stifling.  So hot.  So humid.  Felt like you could cut the air with a knife.  There was the promise of rain (of course), which happened more around us than on us.  We had a few sprinkles, but nothing measureable.  Fletch will need to water the garden again today.

I did manage to get to the office yesterday...and home again before 11 a.m.  And, I stopped to pick up some things at Trader Joe's.  Naturally I got several bunches of flowers.  I have no idea what these orange ones are, but they are so fun!  Does anyone know what they are?

To me, they look like little marigolds popping out of a tomatillo - LOL.

This being TNT, or Tiny Needle Tuesday, I do have some progress to show you on the "Simply Live" sampler.  I'm really loving this one.

No plans for today other than grocery shopping this morning and I have a call at 2:30 to finalize contract points for Kevin's meeting in late August.  And, I just got word that I need to plan a resort meeting/event in September (Arizona) for someone who is retiring.

Last, a cute cartoon for you.  Have a wonderful Tuesday!

  1. What a pretty bunch of flowers, Vera. I have no idea about the orange-pop-from-tomatillo flower is, but I'm gonna guess some sort of exotic thistle???? I've been having a lot of sleeping trouble lately myself. I think there's a lot of "energy" in the universe right now (or at least that's what I'm telling myself), and it's definitely impacting my sleep. :-)

  2. I'm not sure about those marigold/tomatillo flowers. My best guess is that they might be some sort of aster still opening up from the bud, but maybe someone else knows better than my guess. We were the same with rain yesterday, it rained all around us, but nothing here. Well, at least I don't have to mow the lawn. Your sampler looks great; I love the colors!

  3. We're in the soup here in NEO--heavy humidity and lots of heat. No walk for me today. Even at 7 AM it was like breathing through a damp sponge. I'll be putting up a few more quarts of pickles today and more jars of pesto. My herb garden is loving this weather.

That sampler is so attractive, and I definitely ascribe to its message. It was a terrific find, and it looks great.

  4. I think your mystery flower is False Saffron, or saff flower. Sampler is looking great!
It's disgustingly hot and humid here. We are supposed to get rain this afternoon/evening, but it's not supposed to make a difference to the heat. Supposed to be like this all week.
That said, I finally have a tomato turning red!

  5. That’s a fun flower! No chance of rain this week, but “maybe” on Sunday. The sampler is lovely: it has great motifs and a thoughtful sentiment.

  6. Love the flowers but I've never seen one like the orange one so I'm no help. It's really hot and humid here too and no rain in the near forecast. Inside as much as possible is where I'll be. The sampler has a great thought on it and it's pretty too.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. I'm sorry the rain we had the last two days didn't make its way to you. It's very humid here as well -- I was literally dripping when I got in from my run this morning! Trader Joe's always has great flowers, but they aren't very helpful in telling you what's in the mixed bouquets. If you have an iPhone that is up to date on the OS, I recently learned that if you take a photo of a plant or flower and then click on the little i in a circle icon at the bottom of the picture, it will give you an option to look up the plant!

  8. We didn't get the rain either. It stayed north. I could hear the thunder and was hoping for some rain but it never happened. It really is awful out but I guess we can't complain. The folks in the Europe are having it so much worse and they don't have AC. It was hard to watch the Tour. It was brutal on the riders with the asphalt being over 120 degrees.

  9. I am so sorry that you did not get any of the rain we got! We got some, but no where near enough...so I was watering this afternoon!

I am sorry, but I am no help on that adorable flower identification! But your stitching is looking awesome!

  10. The flowers are beautiful-the orange ones are Safflowers! How cool is that! Stitching is great-very humid here, too.

  11. Your sampler is really coming along. Beautiful colors.

The flower is an orange safflower thistle.

  12. absolutely adore your stitching saying and the colors!! So true! If I sleep until 5 am that is a big win for me! (I do fall asleep around 9-9:30) Most of the time I'm awake at 4:30 and wait it out.

  13. Looks like you have an answer regarding the flower. I've seen them but had no idea of the name. Yep. It's hot.

  14. I love that sampler. Isn't that the way with rain? We seem to have rain all around our locale too. Interesting flower for sure. Trader Joes' must have different flowers in different locations which makes sense.
