Weekending 5/2/22

 Good morning!

How are you?  How was your weekend?  Mine was good.  Last night I woke up around 3:30 a.m. to a thunderstorm.  It rained hard for about 10 minutes, but that was it.  Mabel did come in a bit wet.  She was also up on the patio roof meowing when I got up at 6:30.  Fletch and I were both noticing how much more affectionate Mabel has become over the past week or so.  She is always coming up to us and rubbing against our legs, meowing and wanting to be with us.  If one of us is outside and the other inside she goes back and forth...constantly!  It has been nice to see this progression in her behavior.

Meanwhile, the weekend was good as I mentioned.  Saturday morning I headed out to the canal path and took a leisurely walk.  Finally (!!) I was able to do the length from Oaks to Phoenixville.  That is roughly 3 miles round trip.  I'm definitely walking slower than before the back issue, but I'm happy to be able to go that far.

It was peaceful along the trail, although more people than I've seen recently.  It was a lovely day, so lots of walkers and bicyclists and a few runners.

Also plenty of turtles basking in the sun.

Also plenty of geese (and more turtles on the left).

I do love seeing blooms reflected in water.  Just before this was a wisteria tree/vine in full bloom (ours is just starting to show buds), but the lighting was wrong and I couldn't get the blooms to show up.  I was surprised not to see anyone kayaking or canoeing on the canal.

Sunday I debated about walking, but didn't want to over-do it after walking 3 miles on Saturday.  So instead I opted for doing my PT exercises - stretching and strengthening and then headed out for a little archery in the back yard.  Even though last week was pretty dry, things in our back yard can still be fairly mucky, plus there are so many ticks around.  I had to protect myself!

Floral leggings and black & white houndstooth wellies!  LOL  The wellies are ones I bought years ago after the snake in the basement episode.  If I'm running around in flip flops and need to do laundry, I will slip the wellies on before venturing down into the basement.  Always an attractive sight to see whether I'm in PJ pants or shorts!  LOL  The wellies also come in handy for hanging stuff on the clothesline when the grass is still heavy with dew or after a rain.

So, I think today will be pretty much overcast all day...but up near 70 which seems appropriate for May.  I'd love to get out for a walk, but will need to see how it goes.  I have two conference calls this morning - one at 10 and the other at 11.  I may be done in after weathering those two calls!

Wishing you all a Happy May and a great start to a new week!

  2. I'd be wearing wellies and brandishing a hatchet if there were a snake sighting in my basement. (And probably forever.)

I'm glad you're feeling more stamina with less pain for your walks. It's so hard to be patient. And how rewarding is Mabel's sweet affection! Despite her adventurousness, she's still a home cat, and that's so nice.

  3. yesterday was all day rain but I managed a walk in between some rain storms! Today is looking much better so I hope to be out! Glad you are healing and returning to former ways.

  4. I'm glad you were able to walk from Oaks to Phoenixville, and I'm also glad to see all the turtles! We were up by Nockamixon Lake yesterday and I think that's where all the kayakers were. It looked like a kayak traffic jam by the launch ramps; there must have been 50 or more!
P.S. I love the wellies and outfits!

  5. Happy to hear your back allowed you to get in a nice, long walk. Today is dreary, and weatherman said it might rain off and on through Wednesday. I don’t mind rain too much, I just don’t want anymore snow. The crown I had replaced in December after a root canal came off on Saturday with part of the tooth. I hope I can get it fixed quickly. After two crowns and a root canal on the same tooth in the last two years, my wallet hurts more than the tooth.

  6. I bought a pink pair of shorter wellies just before we moved last year. Boy have they come in handy here! This place definitely gets more rain than the last house, and the ground is frequently wet and soggy - not to mention the landscaping work I'll be doing!

  8. I love your get up. I also will be covered up from head to toe when I go out from now on. Even the sight of a bug makes me cringe. I've been scrubbing off all the entry ways to give notice that this is a vermin free zone from now on.

  9. We had that heavy rain here yesterday. I tried to get out for a walk in the afternoon when I thought I had a window between showers and got positively drenched -- I could have used some wellies because I ended up having to run home through some absolute rivers of water (my sneakers are still soaked today)! You are braver than I to go in the basement, even with the wellies on; I think if I saw a snake in my basement, I'd never go down there again!

  11. Your walk looks like a lot of fun checking out all of the wildlife around. Snakes in the basement? Nope. Zilch. Nada. I loathe snakes of any kind. We have tons of them in our backyard. Just garter and bull snakes the guys say to me. I tell them I don't care. If it slithers on the ground I don't want it near me.
We're having a wonderful time with our new grandbaby. She is the cutest little thing.

  12. I don't think I've ever heard of "basement" wellies, but they sound like a good idea. LOL
