Tiny Needle Tuesday 1/28/25

 Good Morning My Friends,

The thermometer outside our bedroom window was almost at 30 when I got up an hour ago!  It feels almost balmy outside.  I sure hope the wicked cold is over.  Our electric bill came yesterday and it is a whopper!  We have electric heat which we have always loved.  We have thermostats in every room (including the two bathrooms) and rarely turn the heat on upstairs (we do use that bathroom's heat when getting showers).  Usually we just have heat on in the living room, kitchen (when I am not cooking) and sometimes the downstairs bathroom.  Recently though we've had to really crank things up and turn on the guest room heat to help warm up the downstairs.  Our electric bill is roughly double what it was last month!  As I said, I sure hope the dangerous cold is over, but I heard the wind again in the night howling around the house.

It's time for a TNT update on my sampler.  I managed to add a few things this past week.  Here is a closeup of what was added:

The tree on the right side is now sporting some Fall leaves.  The grass has started to grow and a few critters (I'm guessing they are dogs) are strolling across the bottom.  And, one and a half blackbirds have been added (one-half at the top and one near the top of the tree).  It sure has been fun to stitch some things other than a BIG dress!  The grass gets a little boring, but then I switch to something else.  Here is a picture of the overall piece.

Still a lot of stitching to go, but progress is being made!  The poor linen is so wrinkled...it will be a bitch to iron this one and get it flat!

I have my semi-annual check up with my dermatologist this afternoon - wish me luck!  Ever since losing half my nose to skin cancer, I see her every six months for a full body check.  Luckily there have been no further issues, but I'm always a little anxious when I go.

Well, time for me to pour another cup of coffee and try to wake up.  I can hear Fletch is in the shower and we will go grocery shopping later this morning (I can't wait to see the price of eggs - NOT).  Hope your Tuesday is a good one!

  1. I went to grab a dozen eggs yesterday just for one egg to make a meatloaf. $6.89 for free range large, and on sale! I'm glad we don't use eggs hardly at all, but you can be sure we won't let this carton go to waste.

The sampler is coming right along. I think those little animals look more cat-like than dog-like, but I'm not the stitcher.

  2. I just paid $7.98 for 18 large eggs, which isn't terrible, but it's double what it was just a little while ago. (I thought that guy was going to solve all of our problems on the first day!) But your sampler looks great. I thought that was a parade of kitty cats, but they can certainly all hide under her huge dress!

  3. i'm waiting to find out if our new heat pump/furnace combo make much of a difference to our bills. They say it will - but it's also been much colder this winter than previous.

Your stitching is coming along nicely! You;ll be picking out a new project soon enough!

  4. We've warmed up to over 50F and I'm loving it. Of course night times are much colder but since we always turn the heat way down at night, it rarely runs.
I'm off for my CT scan in about an hour. Oh goody, goody. Ha! I'm dreading the multitude of pokes for thhe IV but I'll survive.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. My electric bill arrived yesterday: less usage than last year but a sizable increase in cost. The utility wants another cost increase this year. I pray the state Utilities Commission rejects their proposal.

  6. So much for you-know-who lowering grocery prices on Day 1! I noticed on my walk to the office this morning that although it was still cold, there was a mildness to the air, which I hope means warmer temps for a while. I hope your appointment goes well and eggs aren't too crazy expensive!

  7. eggs ... 10 days ago we paid $7.49/dozen ... four days later they were $7.99/dozen ... and last week's ad was $8.69/dozen - with a 2 carton limit - so, no more cheap protein till the bird flu (that we aren't supposed to know about because the NIH and CDC are ordered to NOT inform the public - shout out to the independent media that isn't being funded by billionaires) is under control and price gouging slows down...

that IS a big old skirt, innit?!?

  8. I am liking the new "critters" you are adding! We shopped at TJ's this week and oof... lots of "sticker shock" but a dozen eggs were about $3.50 so I got two dozen! I hope your appointment went okay!

  9. I love that little parade! There so many interesting things going on in the piece.
Some folks here have been upset over $600 electric bills this month. I'm going to be afraid to open ours when it gets here. We have a heat pump that we keep at 68 and it ran non stop for about 10 days. It's not going to be pretty.

  10. This piece is gaining stitches and looking very pretty. I hope your appointment went well. Those checkups do raise the level of concern.
