Unraveled Wednesday 7/21/21

 Good Morning Everyone,

The light this morning makes it obvious that the days are slowly getting shorter.  I actually noticed that too last night when Fletch and I were sitting on the patio around 8:30.  I know some of you hate to see Summer go, but I'm a Fall girl and I'm looking forward to all things Fall.  Fletch discovered a volunteer squash plant of some kind coming up in our garden (thank you compost!!).  I'm more inclined to think it is some kind of gourd rather than a squash...so we may be growing our own Fall decorations!

Late afternoon yesterday this guy came wandering into the yard.  Fletch chased him away from the garden and he ended up on the backside between our garden and the neighbor's yard.

His ribs are showing!  The apples on our tree are not getting very big (still golf ball size) and some of them are beginning to fall.  Deer have been coming down to dine.  No fear of humans which is not a good thing.

I'm happy to say that work pretty much cooperated yesterday - at least in the morning.  I was able to get a lot of cleaning done.  There is still much to do, but progress is being made.  My afternoon got busy work-wise, so I was not able to get the stitching or knitting in that I had hoped to, but I was able to knit some last night and got a start on the socks for Damon.

This is the Static yarn by Knitpicks and the colorway is Neptune.  I think the name for these socks will be "Out of This World" socks.  I'm using #2 needles and knit 15 rows of 2x2 ribbing and, so far, have done 15 rows on the leg.  The leg is K6, P2 across.  The yarn is easy to knit with and (theoretically at least) these socks should go fairly quickly.

On the reading side of things I am about three quarters of the way through The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah.  I'd best speed things up as I think it is due back to the library today (which is not going to happen).  Monday I picked up Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller at the library - not sure I will get through it or not.  I don't seem to be able to focus on her books, but I wanted to give it a try.

Here's hoping that today is another easy one work-wise.  I have a game plan for the balance of the cleaning I need and want to do.  And of course I'm always thinking of knitting and/or stitching in the afternoon.  As usual, I'm linking up with Kat for Unraveled Wednesday.  Looking forward to seeing what everyone is making and reading!

  1. I am glad work cooperated with your plans yesterday. (I wasn't as lucky -- I got busy in the afternoon, just as I was sitting down to read and knit!)

Unsettled Ground was the first Claire Fuller book I'd read, but I really enjoyed it and found it hard to put down. If I'd had the time, I could easily have read it in one sitting (a long sitting, but still).

  2. I'm ready for summer to go away - but it's because I feel better when it's cold :) Lovely deer shot! The knitting looks beautiful as always.

  3. I am also glad that work cooperated! That deer... oh my. We have them wandering around my neighborhood too...but the wildlife I have been most amused by this summer are the multiple clutches of baby bunnies that have grown up in our back yard. They have no fear... not good, but so adorable! And Sherman loves it! lol

  4. I'm surprised how unperturbed the deer in our neighborhood are . . . by us OR the dogs. They don't run . . . they just keep eating my hydrangeas. . . (Like Kat, we also have bunny babies in our garden this year. Our dogs are too lazy/stupid to notice.) I hope your cleaning chores are completed tout de suite!!! :-)

  5. Poor deer; it definitely needs to fatten up a bit. I do, however, understand the frustration of having deer decimate your garden.

The sock start looks very nice--I like that deep blue.

  6. That poor skinny deer looks like s/he might be back to eat more when Fletch isn't around to chase him away! (Too bad Fletch doesn't have his garden fenced :-)) Your sock looks great, and I hope work is slow and the cleaning accomplished quickly!

  8. I’m currently reading Wild Fire by Ann Cleeves: it’s a good read. The Out of this World socks look great so far. I heard Unsettled Ground is a good book - eager to hear what you think of it.

  9. Our pergola lights come on at dusk and I've noticed lately that it's a few minutes earlier every night. I haven't seen as many deer as I sometimes do, but oh my the woodchucks and squirrels and bunnies!

  10. Hello,
We have seen the deer strolling through our yard, I do think our neighbors dogs spooks it sometimes. I like the pretty blue yarn, looks beautiful so far. Take care, enjoy your day!

  11. We've had some deer in the yard with very big antlers. I haven't seen that before. Ours all look very well fed thanks to all my hostas. The back ones are all gone now so they will be working on the front any day now.

  12. THere are two deer that appear in the woods edge. THe female has no issues with peple. I keep telling her to go away! I clap my hands and I yell. She stomps her foot at me. Keeps munching.d I tell her she better not be so cavalier. Almost everyone here hunts. not me....

  13. I'm late to commenting tonight. Lots of company this week from Minnesota keeping me on my toes.
I'm glad that you were able to get your morning cleaning done and I hope today was better workwise so you could get some knitting in too. I've begun that same pattern and just finished the first cuff for the socks I'm taking for airplane knitting. The leg will be k6,p2 just like yours for simplicity. I hope Heathrow doesn't confiscate my dpn's. I'm taking cheap wooden ones and not my signature needles just because I don't want to chance loosing them.
That deer looks way too skinny to survive winter. It definitely needs to fatten up some.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  14. Sometimes the best plants grow in the compost. I transplanted two compost tomato plants and they are doing well. Autumn is my favorite season but I have been enjoying summer this year. This summer's weather has been quite nice although we are due for a very hot weekend. It is July.
