Lion or Lamb?

Good Morning and Welcome to March.

Did March come in like a lion or lamb?  I'm trying to figure that out.  Saturday was bitter cold...but it was still February.  We had terrific (not in a good way) winds and even a snow squall or two.  Sunday brought abundant sunlight (YAY!), but some lingering winds and pretty chilly temps.  Today it is bright and sunny and is forecast to get up to 61!  So, I'm thinking March around here came in like a gentle lion or a tough lamb.

Friday afternoon started off well when I got home and spied these pretty blooms on our buffet.

Fletch had been out running errands and said this bouquet caught his eye, so he brought it home for us to enjoy.  I'm so glad he did - the blooms are gorgeous and I love the variety both in types of flowers and color.

Yesterday I spotted these beauties at the edge of our driveway.

I love that there are so many blooms in this clump!  We have daffodils that are budded, but not yet open.  I do wonder what happened to our snowdrops though.  No sign of them.

Despite a lot of running around this weekend, there was a bit of knitting progress.  I did not finish the shawl as I had thought I might.  I was able to knit 2 more rows on it last night, but it got up to over 400 stitches on the needles, so getting through a row takes a little bit of time.  Luckily I'm right where I should be stitch count wise and the remaining rows are not difficult (I hope I have not jinxed myself!!).

I also put a few rows in on the Canary Blanket Saturday night while Fletch and I watched a show on Prime.  If you have not seen An Inspector Calls we highly recommend it.  My hand was sore when I woke up Sunday and I don't know if it was from knitting on the blanket (I hope not) or if I slept funny (or slept on my hand).  Oh well.  I'll try some more on that project later this week and see what happens.

My Miss Lemon Lime socks did see some love and by last night the leg of sock #1 was complete:

Such a pretty pattern!  And I've even gotten used to/adjusted to doing purl stitches at the start of each needle.  This morning while waking up and sipping coffee and managed to knit the first 10 rows of the heel flap!  I plan to make the foot plain - no lace pattern.  I just prefer plain stitches on the feet of my socks.  Both this and the shawl came to work with me today and I'm hoping to work on one of them at lunch.

A bright note:  Fletch wore his Barn Owl socks the other day and pronounced them "very nice!"  No mention of any snugness - lol.

Hoping your March is off to a fabulous start!

  1. Beautiful blooms, both inside and out! Your socks will be done in plenty of time for St. Patrick's Day and the pattern is very nice. Of course your Barn Owl socks are very nice! I'm glad Fletch has realized that!

  2. Glad the barn owl socks are no longer a problem! ;-)

Goodness! When I was working, I woke up with just enough time to get ready and get out the door. Here you are, knitting and sipping coffee before leaving for work. I cannot fathom it.

  3. We've had the early March winds here, too, but today looks calm, sunny and inviting! The new socks are so pretty--I really like the lace and the color!

  4. March cold is the worst cold for me. I'd take a dry 20's over a damp 50's any day. Brrrr....March is when I go get the long underwear and the heavy blankets. I'm looking forward to that 60 we are expecting today-even though it's short lived, I'll take it.

  5. It was indeed a wild and windy weekend! Our neighbors lost a few pieces of siding, but fortunately we had no damage. I walked (I know... YAY) this morning and the winds were crazy but it is well over 50 here this morning so it was a good way to stay cool as I worked up a good sweat! (I finished sock one, but I think it is because I only did 15 repeats on the leg so it would be a bit of a shorter sock. I started sock two last night.)

  6. I am so jealous of your crocuses! I won't seen any of those until April, at least!
It's rainy here, but it's supposed to be warm all week (above freezing, but not spring warm).

  7. I'm glad Fletch decided he likes the socks just fine! :-) . Smart man. March definitely came in like a lamb here. Gorgeous weather and blue skies most of the weekend. I didn't leave the house all weekend. With so many cases of the dreaded virus out there in our State, I'm nervous to go shopping. Luckily we're fairly stocked up and will just need perishables by the end of the week. They're talking quarantines here any day. Another school in the absolute boonies was shut down this morning. It's up by the Canadian border on the east side of the state aabout 70 miles from us, so who knows what's happening there?
I love your bouquet of flowers. I prefer those kinds of bouquets with the various spring-like flowers over one with all the same flower. Although I would never turn one down!
Your socks are beautiful. I'm learning that I prefer plain knit feet on my socks too. Always plain for the botton and usually the top too!
    Have a wonderful Monday Vera.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. The March lion visited Wyoming with cold, wind, and horizontal snow most of yesterday. Thankfully, the sky is clear and the sun shining today. Miss Lime is gorgeous as are your flowers.

Happy March, pretty bouquet of flowers. The Crocus are pretty blooms too. I would say today March is a lamb, but I heard this weekend it could be back to the lion. the sock pattern and lime color is pretty. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!

  14. Your signs of spring are much further along than ours . . . although maybe we'll see some crocus blooms in the "sunny spots" soon. My daffodils are just visible now, so Progress! (I still haven't spotted a robin. . . ) Because my birthday is right at the very end of March (it's the 30th), I have always paid special attention to that Lion/Lamb thing! It was definitely lamb-like here on the 1st, so I'm counting on crappy lion-like weather for my birthday. . . :-)

  15. March came in like a lamb here in Nebraska. The creeping charley is up and green and growing - does that count. Honestly - not sure how I have weeds already and no flowers. The iris spears look green. Miss Lime looks perfect for March.

  16. It has been a wild start here because the Coronavirus in right in my back yard and we are busy with planning and prepping at school. I think I might need to stop and get some flowers this afternoon

  17. Oh those pesky stitches at the start of a row can get to me! Good for you! Your flowers are lovely and the sentiment is great. I think the plain foot is the best way to go. It would bother me to have anything that was not smooth against my shoe. Good job. !
