Good Morning All!
Yesterday didn't turn out at all as I had expected, but it turned out very nice! I had my appointment with a nutritionist (trying to Nourish myself) at 8:30 yesterday morning, so was late getting to work. When I pulled into the parking lot around 9:45 a.m. it was quite eerie. The parking lot was almost completely empty. Just a few cars. I came into the building and realized there was no power. Apparently the storms Tuesday night with the accompanying high winds knocked out power to a number of office complexes in the area...and it was not anticipated to be restored until 3 p.m. or later! Whee!!! A free day. There were a couple of people in the office and I walked around and spoke with them and then high-tailed it home.
So, here I am a bit late linking up with Kat for Unraveled Wednesday (on a Thursday). Miss Lime is coming along:
That picture was taken Tuesday night. This morning, while sipping coffee, I was working on the toe decrease stitches. I should finish this up at lunch today.
The shawl saw progress yesterday as well. No picture yet. I finished the pattern and am up to the bind off, but as I had said previously, I plan to knit a bit more so that the very pale color in the yarn will be a part of the shawl. I'm so happy with this Odyssey shawl. It really is beautiful. I cannot wait to block it and have the lace sections really open up.
A week or so back I noticed that there is a pair of hawks nesting on our office building. They have built a nest on (I believe this is what it is) a light fixture right above my window!
I'm not sure if eggs have been laid yet or not. There has been a lot of flying in and out of the nest. The above picture was taken from my boss' window. My window is the one just below and to the right, but I can't see the nest from my window due to an overhang. I'm excited to see little hawks!! This is also right over the front entrance to our building and every morning there is a MESS on the ground - they tend to kick out large sticks and twigs during the night and then replenish them later - lol.
On the reading front: not much! I've been reading The Gown and had such high hopes for it - the Queen, embroidery, etc. And the waiting time on Overdrive was months and months. I have to say I'm under-whelmed at best. I'm about 40% of the way through and am thinking of giving up on it. For me it is just so meh. I know some have really enjoyed it, but I'm finding the writing tiresome and the whole story rather boring. But then I keep thinking maybe it will pick up? I am excited to read the next selection chosen by Bonnie, Kym & Carole: This Book and I will try to get a hard copy at the library over the weekend.
So that's a wrap for me. I have a bit of catching up to do after my free day yesterday (and, my office is still closing at Noon tomorrow in celebration of Daylight Savings Time!!).
Your sock looks AWESOME! I must thank you for finding such a great pattern! And, wow... that hawk nest! What a treat! I am seeing lots of birds busy building nests here as well... it is such a nice harbinger of spring!
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! Congratulations on your gift of a day! I hope you don't have to work twice as hard today to make up for it, but there is the excitement of the hawks' nest. Your sock is looking great and I'm looking forward to seeing your shawl. You do work at the best place - closing early to celebrate DST!
ReplyDeleteThe sock looks so intricate. Are you worried about The Snug Factor? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've been watching for our local hawks here. Hawks have become so urbanized that we get a pair of nesters right in our neighborhood. They provided months of great entertainment.
Daughter had a day gifted yesterday also to due to lack of water at her ice rink. She was not happy though. No students. No pay. :(
ReplyDeleteHello, having an extra day off is nice. The hawk's nest is in a spot out in the open, strange place for a nest. The sock is looking pretty. I heard we could have some snow tomorrow night, the weather is crazy. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteOoooo! A hawk's nest -- right there within watching distance -- is SO COOL! Oh, please, keep us up to date on all the developments! And I'm so happy you enjoyed a great, unexpected day off! What a treat. XO
ReplyDeleteLucky you! always nice to have some free time.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll share some pics of the babies when you see them!
You work at the best place in the world. Lunches, days off, celebrating the time change! Wow! My workplace was NOT fun at all. Terrible in fact. I can't believe I stayed as long as I did.
ReplyDeleteThe nest is incredible. I always love to see the workmanship in nests. They are usually amazing feats of engineering.
Blessings,
Betsy
Won't that be fun to have a front row seat for the nest, even if it isn't a real nice place from the buildings point of view!
ReplyDeletenice progress on the sock!
Bravo on the sock near-finish! I'm wondering why the office didn't call you before you drove in? Have a nice 2 1/2 days off. We have sun here and I went off to a meeting with just a shawl on! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteOh man - a free day. I well remember the gift of a free day via a snow day. They felt like special holidays. Miss Lime is coming right along. You will be high stepping it by St. Patrick's Day in bright socks. Happy Friday.
ReplyDeletefree days are the very best! I applaud all you are doing for your health - I know it will make a difference soon and yay to you to give yourself a fantastic health present.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great office you work in! Is that next a few stories up? I'm worrying about Mom & Dad Hawk feeling that their babies are being threatened by people using that entrance. I immediately go "The Birds," though, so...
ReplyDeleteOH Oh You must show us hawk baby updates! WOW. I Find all the raptors fascinating!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your office for giving you a DST holiday. what a wonderful idea! (meanwhile, my church schedules WOMEN'S SUNDAY for the DAY after it starts .... ugh!)
ReplyDeleteA gift of a day is so wonderful! I am glad you enjoyed every moment of it.
ReplyDeleteYour knitting looks great! Nice that you have projects on the go to choose from. Very cool on the hawk's nest! Hope you get to see the baby hawks! Nice on the day off too! Yay!
