Hello and Good Morning!
Gosh! We had a sunny day yesterday. Yes, it was still on the cool (and windy) side of things (it IS winter), but SUN!!! It has been so grey recently so it was just wonderful to have a bright day.
How was your weekend? Mine was good. Filled with a lot of errands, some cleaning, a lot of laundry. You know, the usual.
My yoga jellies arrived just two days after ordering them! What a difference they make. I've had major (read: extreme) pain in my wrists while doing yoga in the past, but these make a HUGE difference. Many thanks to Kym for suggesting these. They are a game changer for moi.
The other item that arrived was my Dutch Oven! I have shied away from getting one because they are HEAVY and my arms are WEAK. But there are so many recipes I want to make that call for having a Dutch oven than can be used on the stove top and also go in the oven. Now I have one and the color is just marvelous!
A gorgeous shade of teal (which looks more green in my picture). This is a 6 quart one, so plenty big. I plan to make red beans (New Orleans style) first (which does not go in the oven). I've been craving that dish, so we will probably invite Colin & Mailing over for dinner one night soon.
As I mentioned the weekend was filled with errands: Costco on Friday. Didn't really get much, but a few items and gassed up my car for $0.28 cents a gallon cheaper than the nearest gas station to us. Saturday was groceries and Sunday we bought a new sink for the kitchen. My current sink is a double which I have never liked...neither side is large enough for my big pans. The new sink is like a farm sink - one big one and it is a little deeper than our current set up. We need a new faucet as well, but the plumber will get that as the quality he can get is much better (and guaranteed for life) than what we can buy commercially.
A little knitting was accomplished. I'm now on the gusset decrease/the foot of the first Yule Wave sock. I did go ahead and do the heel turn in red. The heel flap is Eye of the Partridge. The toes will be red as well and I plan to put a couple of thin red stripes mid-way down the foot.
It is still early and dark outside. I need to dry my hair and get dressed as I'm heading to the office in a little bit. I have a conference call at 10, but hope to be on my way home shortly after that. There are a few things I need to take care of in the office today so I will get that stuff done early.
Time to pour another cup of coffee and pull out the hair dryer. Wishing you all a great week - enjoy!
Isn't the sunshine wonderful? I swear that we had 10 days of doom and gloom and so with the sunshine we've been out walking every single blessed day. Hope you get done at the office sooner than later!
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad you like the yoga jellies, Vera! :-) I love your new Dutch oven. The color is FAB, and will make you smile every time you use it, I'm sure. And speaking of smiles . . . isn't it a marvelous thing when the sun shines in January after a bunch of dreary-grey days?
ReplyDeleteI love that new Dutch oven! What a fun color!! (I have several Dutch oven's in varying sizes... and I use them ALL THE TIME!) You can't beat them! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI have a Le Cruset dutch oven that I just love and use all the time but it's big. I was just thinking of looking for a smaller one. Then I looked at the prices and...yikes! I got mine at Marshall's for $30. The same model is going for $300. I'm need to go looking at other brands.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYes, the sunshine is welcome..I'd like to see more of it. The dutch oven is a pretty color. I love the sock pattern and colors too. Take care, have a great new week!
Nice to see how pretty that sock is getting! The dutch oven looks so handy--good for you! I've never heard of the yoga jellies but that makes so much sense--I can't put weight on my wrists in that position!
ReplyDeleteThe sock is looking fine. Very wintry.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge le Creuset in the colour Flame. It's ancient, gotten years ago at Marshall's for a song. I use it so much, but it weighs a ton. Even the lid becomes a struggle at times.
FYI--We have not had a fully sunny day in NEO since November 19. Definitely feeling the winter blahs.
Maybe you'll build some muscles hoisting your Dutch oven onto the stove and into the oven. They are heavy, but I sure love mine; I just used it yesterday to make Dirty Rice!
ReplyDeleteLove your teal Dutch oven! I kept very few heavy pans when I moved - no place to store them. Most of my pans are stainless steel or pottery.
ReplyDeleteI guess getting that beautiful new Dutch oven is a good excuse to do some arm strengthening, eh? Mine is also big and very heavy (and bright lime green -- not my first choice, but it was a gift). I remember worrying about the movers when I packed it up when we were moving into our house!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the jellies are working, and I love your Dutch oven! I use mine a lot and have wished I had two of them (one for NJ and one for MD). Now I'm wondering if I have time to make a pot roast in mine tonight!
ReplyDeleteI bought Mandy one of those dutch ovens for Christmas a few years ago. I have my Mom's, which is probably over 70 years old! The lid is missing the handle and it's in storage now but I look forward to having it again when we settle somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of jellies, but then, I don't do yoga either so that's probably why.
It's been dreary and cloudy here for weeks with just one sunny day. So unusual for us. More rain tomorrow. Oh well, as long as it doesn't snow it will be fine.
Blessings,
Betsy
We got the red Food Network one at Kohl's for a fantastic price at Christmas for Carole. Had to get the 3.5 because of the weight, but of course, she isn't happy and wants the larger one.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the jellies. OMG can you do those poses? I couldn't manage that at 30, no way at 70!!
Love the sock, love the pot, had to look up the jellies. I think my daughter needs them!!
ReplyDeleteBravo on that wonderful sock.. it would also look good in red and green for Christmas time! You will love the things you can make in the dutch oven. We have 3 sizes and use them a lot. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteWe make bread in the dutch oven. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new sink - I love those big, farm-style ones.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of getting a dutch oven too... there's some bread recipes I want to try.
