Hello and Good Morning!
Thank you all so much for the recommendations you gave me for programs to listen to while working out. I did download the Overdrive app to my phone and ordered an audiobook from my library. BUT...it was not a good choice and after 10 minutes I had to shut it down and return it. Today I will try one of the podcasts you all suggested!
Today is the first Unraveled Wednesday of 2021. As usual, I am linking up with Kat to talk about what we are making and reading. As well as finishing the Antler Hat I showed on Monday, I also started my Yule Wave Socks - a pattern I received free for subscribing to Carol Feller's newsletter.
I am also contemplating casting on for some fingerless mitts to go with the Antler Hat. I have some of the blue left and a complimentary lighter shade that I could use.
Perhaps today I will cast on for these. And, of course, I'd like to start Heart Warmer - my needles did arrive for that.
My 2021 is off to a good start with reading! I've finished 2 books and am close to finishing a third. On January 1st I finished Through the Evil Days - the 8th book in a series by Julia Spencer-Fleming. These books are easy to read and kept me entertained (I recommend reading them in order). I'm now almost finished the 9th and last one (so far) in the series. They are mysteries that take place in a little village/town in the Adirondacks. On January 2nd I read The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse and wow! I read it in under 5 minutes standing in my kitchen while dinner was cooking. It is wonderful! Kind of like a Velveteen Rabbit kind of story - about kindness, love, friendship. A couple of my favorite lines:
The Mole's favorite saying: "If at first you don't succeed, have some cake."
What do you want to be when you grow up? "Kind" said the boy.
"One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things."
"Nothing beats kindness" said the Horse. "It sits quietly beyond all things."
Every page has words of wisdom on it and the drawings are so wonderful! I highly recommend this book for ALL ages. I borrowed it from my library, but I think I need to get my own copy.
As usual, it's time for me to pour another cup of coffee and get moving for the day. Work at the moment is quiet, so perhaps some knitting with my next cup of joe? Happy mid-week!
I love that sock pattern and the colors you chose (and look at you, doing colorwork with dpns)! I think I used to have The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse on my list, but it got lost somehow. I'm off to look for it at my libraries. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe excerpts sound very Winnie the Pooh-like. I like that.
ReplyDeletePretty colourwork on the socks. It's nice to see something bright like that. I'm enveloped in grey doldrums in NEO for the forseeable. Ugh.
That sock is so cute! I have on my list to do some kind of colorwork socks this year... hmmm! Thank you for that suggestion!
ReplyDeleteI too am off to find that book! It might be the perfect Valentines gift for the grands! :)
Love how the sock is knitting up! If you want to add a bit of color to the heel, you might consider working the heel turn in the red. I've done that a couple of times and it's a fun little surprise!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the book recommendations. I have a feeling that when I finally catch up with the Gamache series, I'll be looking for some more good mysteries.
Those will be nice socks!
ReplyDeleteLots of work in those pretty socks.! Im off to look up that wise book!
ReplyDeleteVery nice colorwork, Vera! And I agree with Sarah -- I was going to suggest working the heel-turn in the red, too. I think that would look great. I will definitely seek out The Boy, the Mole, et al. It sounds just charming. XO
ReplyDeleteI do like those new socks. I have done some colorwork but not on tiny needles yet. I don't count the mittens stripes as it's just stripes. I have found a beautiful mitten pattern that I would love to try but I've never used charts before and much prefer written patterns. I should try to stretch myself a bit shouldn't I? Maybe when my hand is better I'll go for it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great afternoon Vera. I have just driven trough the snow to our storage unit and brought the plastic bins with my wool yarn to the RV. I have no idea where I'm going to put them but I can't take the risk of having something happen to it with the dampness in the storage unit. However, I'm going to have a good time looking through it all if nothing else.:-)
Blessings,
Betsy
Those socks are gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the Heartwarmer pattern. I'll have to add that to my cue!
ReplyDeleteI think your Antler hat would just love to have matching mitts.
I've done a lot of colorwork, but not socks. It just seems too fiddley to do on such a small item. But the are cute!
The Heart Warmer will be gorgeous in the yarn you selected. I love the color work design on the socks. It would be pretty on a mitt, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Heart Warmer is going to be a beautiful project. And that book you mentioned for all ages sounds like something I could read to my grandchildren or myself. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteI sure do love how that sock is coming along. I'm glad you had a nice morning before the disaster at the Capitol Bldg. What a disaster. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe socks are pretty and I love the blue yarn for the hat. I love using the overdrive app for my books, I usually get the ebooks on my kindle. We need more kindness! Take care, enjoy your day!
Great new sock-love the design! Won't you have fun with the new mitts!
ReplyDeletelove the heartwarmer pattern! those socks are super cute and I love the color combo!
ReplyDeleteI also got The Boy Etc for Christmas but have only dipped in and out of it as yet. It is beautiful though.
ReplyDeleteYour socks look wonderful, there is no hint of awkwardness about them whatsoever !
Have a great weekend,
Jill
