TNT

Good Morning!

Well, the hawks have fledged.  Yesterday there was only one in the nest and by some time in the afternoon that one was gone too.  Bill said that when he came in he saw one of the adults on top of the building "talking" to the remaining youngster in the nest - probably trying to convince him/her to fly.  I only got one lousy picture yesterday.

I miss the hawks!  It was so fun to watch them.  But, I'm glad it was a successful family and hopefully they will stay in the area.

Believe it or not, I am doing a Tiny Needle Tuesday post!  I've been in the mood to stitch again and so last Friday I finished up Fox Forest!  (And ironically or coincidentally, a fox ran in front of my car this morning as I was driving through Valley Forge Park!)

This piece is supposed to have the entire alphabet on it - all the letters floating all over the piece, but I decided I didn't like that.  Instead I stitched my initials and then 2020.  I like the 2020 which I did over 1 thread - wish I had done the same for my initials (which I did over 2), but I wasn't about to rip them out.

And, I started a new piece.  A small by Blackbird Designs called May Basket.  Here's where I am - close to half finished.

I've stitched a number of smalls.  Usually I just sew some backing fabric to them and stuff them as pin cushions.  I have an old dough bowl that is filled with them.

I'll save my knitting updates for another day.

Meanwhile, there was more rhubarb to harvest and Mailing sent me a link for a rhubarb cordial (Smitten Kitchen).  I got that mixed up last night.

Rhubarb, a little sugar, gin and some orange peel.  It has to sit for about a month and then I can strain it and serve with a splash of soda.  YUM!!!

I have quite a few folks in today for budget meetings...a busy day.  Hope you are all well!

  1. It seems like the hawks fledged quickly! I, too, am glad of their success in raising a family. Fox Forest is lovely, and I wonder if I have enough rhubarb to make some cordial myself. My rhubarb is decades old and dwindles every year. Usually I can harvest enough for a rhubarb cake, so I'm going to go check and see if I have enough for a cake and cordial! :-)

  2. I like your initials a bit bigger than the date. The whole project is adorable.

That rhubarb cordial is so pretty fermenting it the jar. So many colors. It would make a good sock color.

  4. Hello, I am glad the fledging was a success. The Fox Forest is cute! I have never tried anything with rhubarb. Have a great day!

  5. Once the birds get their feathers, it doesn't take long at all for them to fly away! I'm always surprised how quickly they can leave the nest there at the end. (Our finch family had two "stragglers" still in the nest when we left to come back north yesterday. I'm sure the nest will be empty when I return tomorrow night.) LOVE your foxes!

  6. The cordial sounds delightful. Last week, a friend gave me some rhubarb that is cubed and safely tucked in the freezer to make all kinds of yummy treats.

  11. I thing your decision to leave off the letters was a good one. Very nice piece. We came close to hitting three baby fox the other day. So stinkin' cute!!

  12. How exciting to know that the hawk family was successful in launching two new birds. I'm glad you got to witness them grow.
I like both of your TNT projects. The fox one is wonderful. I still need to get to Hobby Lobby to get more floss for my project but I'm waiting for it to be less busy. Since they reopened last week the parking lot has been packed each time I've driven by. I'm not that desperate yet.
Be careful when you're at work with all of the people. I returned a hug with someone tonight without even thinking. We ALWAYS hug when we see each other and I did it out of habit. Scary times and I'm a little resentful at the lack of touchy/feely with our friends now. Several of my friends are definite huggers and this is really affecting them negatively. I'm so ready for life to be normal again.
    Blessings,

  13. beautiful stitchery, I haven't cross stitch since the red floss bled, I guess I put that craft in time out as I recover mentally!!!

  14. I have two bunches of rhubarb in my fridge right now! A cordial sounds nice, but I'm not a huge fan of gin. I'm guessing the rhubarb would help it out, though.

    Love your foxy cross stitchery.

  15. I have enjoyed reading about the hawks. Your posts about rhubarb remind me to check mine. I hope to get enough for one pie and a batch of jam. The stitchery looks like fun. I have a tub of cross stitch supplies from yester-years.
