Good Morning!
How was your weekend? Mine was not what I had planned. Dee and I were supposed to get together for a walk and then some knitting under my apple tree. But, Thursday night Mailing started running a fever. So erring on the side of caution Dee and I decided not to get together. Mailing was tested Friday for Covid, but we don't know the results yet - hopefully today (2-4 days for the results). Since Fletch and I saw Colin & Mailing 6 days before she ran the fever, we are staying away from everyone. I had planned to go into the office today, but am staying home instead. Mailing is feeling better each day, but is still not 100%.
Friday I did walk along the canal, and looking across the water I saw these day lilies:
Such a profusion! I love seeing the reflection in the water.
On Saturday I walked a little over 5 miles along the path in Oaks. And boy was it muggy! We had rain early in the morning but by 9 it was clear, so I headed out. There were a number of walkers and a lot of bikers. I thought this little guy was going to come right for me:
Hard to see in the picture, but this is a young buck with tiny antlers still in velvet. Tail up and he meant business! I was in his way and he was not going to stop - lol. Later a young, spotted fawn broke out of the woods running right towards me. It had been frightened by two German Shepherd dogs (on leashes) ahead of me. I'm like a magnet for these deer!
And, speaking of deer, they have managed to do severe damage on our garden! They have munched bell peppers, jalapeno peppers (!!), tomato plants, etc. Farmer Fletch has put up screening and wires around everything! And he went out and got coyote urine to sprinkle around everything. LOL
So disappointing after everything was doing so well. And now our garden looks like a prison with wire everywhere!
I did manage to get a little knitting and a little stitching done over the weekend, but no pictures yet. Not sure what I will be able to do today. The morning has already been busy work-wise and I have a conference call at 10. It is also feeling a bit sticky already, so I doubt I will get out for a walk. Time will tell.
Wishing you all a great week! I can't believe we are at the end of June!!!
I hope that Mailing is soon fever-free and healthy. And your garden! We had to resort to a solar electric fence in NJ because the deer just laughed at the regular fence and jumped right over it. Here's hoping Farmer Fletch wins the battle!
ReplyDeletefingers crossed that you all remain healthy and covid free....hubby has had his second test (second because he had surgery last week) and luckily remains virus free. phew.
ReplyDeleteso sorry about the deer and the garden....so much work for a wildlife salad bar. hope all the the wire does the trick!
Hello, sorry to hear about Mailing, I hope she is feeling better soon. Our garden is fenced off too, between the deer and the groundhogs they eat everything in sight. I do love seeing the deer while out walking, they are sweet. It has been hot and humid here too, not good walking weather. Take care! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for Mailing.
ReplyDeleteWe've had lots of deer lately everywhere. It's very odd. They're showing up in places they've never been seen before, like right down my street. We are nothing but houses packed together with small yards butted up against each other.
praying for Mailing and I hope you tell us the results!! Goodness, just when you were enjoying seeing them...bummer.
ReplyDeleteOur deer would eat all the pepper plant leaves, groundhogs ate the tomatoes. We got the Enforcer, one on each edge of the garden, and it sprays water 180 from its motion detector. Doesn't catch coons and hogs, but certainly deer. As soon as it comes on the noise itself scares them away. No problems for years! Except for forgetting it's there and scaring and drenching me!
ReplyDeleteThe deer got all my hostas and my Black-eyed Susans. I am so mad. We've been putting that netting over the veggies at night. I just knew they would be a snack.
ReplyDeleteI hope your DIL is feeling better and it was just a false alarm. With everything opening up I am more nervous than ever. I hate to be a spoil sport but I don' trust anyone after seeing what my sister and he husband are going through with it.
Sorry to hear that Mailing is not feeling well. This is such a frightening virus. The lilies in the photo are wonderful - so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about this concern for C-19 and praying all will be well.
ReplyDeleteThe garden is less beautiful now-which really bums me out, too, but will keep it productive for you which is the point after all! lol Love the deer stories and the photo!
I use Deer Out on my plants. It works wonderfully. I got it on Amazon, and doesn't have anything nasty or harmful in it. You just spray it on the plants. I do love that picture of the lily patch!
ReplyDeleteSending lots of good thoughts for Mailing (and your family)! Hope it's not the dreaded COVID
ReplyDeleteI hope the COVID has not spread. GOodness that's a scary thought. I am keeping almost all of my garden for giving, on our upstairs outdoor paito. THis eliminates deer , rabbit, racoon etc issues. I have a few squash outside, but I often begin to cage them with a milk carton t ype box, so light gets through , but little mouths cant get to the flowers that become the squash. Im sorry youve been robbed of your first garden gifts.
ReplyDeleteI'm sending all the good healing juju for Mailing! And hugs to the rest of you. Because waiting on results is so hard. XOXO
ReplyDeleteAnd ugh . . . deer in the garden are such a pain. I hope your wire fences will help keep them away from your "crops." (My kids used to call gardens with wire mesh surrounding plants "plant zoos.")
Oh man, I hope Mailing is feeling better by now. Waiting isn't easy. I hope the coyote urine and the chicken wire keeps out the critters. I am using cayenne pepper and a non-poisonous but stinky product called Deer and Rabbit spray to keep the bunnies at bay. It's expensive though so I don't know how long I can keep it up.
