Storms!

Good Morning!

Whew!  We had some MAJOR storms roll through here yesterday afternoon.  I mean MAJOR!!!  The sky literally turned black and then the wind started.  I heard later winds were clocked at 89 mph!!  The party canopies set up at the front of our building to protect folks from hawk fallout were completely blown over.  And, we lost power at work.  Our training room where Bill was doing his budget reviews still maintained power.  That one room had been set up initially with a built in generator because that is where our payroll department was when payroll was done here rather than at our parent company in Charlotte.  Anyway, I left around 1:30 when there was still no power and here are two pictures I got pretty close to our office.

Looks to me like tornado damage, but apparently it was a Derecho storm which I had never heard of!

My ride home included a number of detours due to downed trees, downed wires, etc.  This morning some roads are still closed.  Luckily we had no damage at home, but our power was out until 11:30 last night!  The power is still out at my office.  I'm here and Bill has his last day of budget reviews - they will be in the bunker, so they will be fine - lol.  And I can work as long as the battery in my computer holds out!

Gotta run - I have a ton of work to do.  Hope everyone is well.

  1. Hello, we had been warned about this storm but it missed us. I am glad you got home safely. I get nervous having all these trees around. Have a great day and happy weekend ahead.

  2. Will they actually be working in the bunker, or will they merely be inspecting it? ;-)

I had a persistent migraine starting yesterday around 2:30. I kept wondering if we'd get rain and it would ease, but we didn't get a thing. I ended up taking meds for a bit of relief. I wonder if it was the atmospheric changes from your storm.

  4. Your storm story reminds me of mine. We had terrific rain and wind last July, and much of our rural county lost power, our house included. We were without power for nearly five days. I hope your power outage is much shorter.

  5. I have not heard of that kind of storm so I'm off to look at your link. That snapped off tree looks like tornado damage to me too. Way west in Nebraska, we had a terrific storm last night. My husband and I saw quite a few large limbs on the ground when we walked this a.m.

  7. That was a CRAZY storm.

Some of the roads are still closed around here due to downed trees or downed wires. Thankfully, we have our power back.

  8. Wow! That was some storm. It does look like tornado damage to me. I spent lots of my childhood hiding from them in the basement and have seen a lot of damage from them. I'm so glad that your home, office and most especially you, survived unscathed.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Egads I'm glad you made it home safely. We had a massive lightning and thunder storm a week ago and everyone out here in our little country town said it was the loudest and longest one ever. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. Wow! I'm glad you could detour around all of the downed trees--crazy how they change the names of things...a bad storm with wind shear was what we called it!

  12. We had a derecho here in N VA a few years ago and the damage was just terrible. I hate to see those trees broke off. I had to stay up late last night to ride out our storms but they were nothing compared to that. Wow.

  13. Yikes! We had storms in MD, but they didn't seem to cause that kind of damage. John lost power in NJ, but luckily it was back on when I got home this morning. There are more storms predicted later on today and I hope they are nothing like that derecho!
