Hello My Friends,
How are you? Doing well, I hope. We are well. I had been scheduled for a colonoscopy today, but the surgery center cancelled it. I was not disappointed. LOL. Long story - I was diagnosed as having C-Diff last November. Got on antibiotics, got rid of it. BUT...the surgery center wanted to be sure, so I had to have another test. All is clear and I need to reschedule the colonoscopy. And I will...eventually.
Meanwhile I have been getting lots and lots of Iris snuggles. Mailing went back to work last Tuesday and Colin is officially on paternity leave. The only issue is that Colin can't nurse and Iris had taken an aversion to a bottle. Therefore, she was pretty hangry during the day. And tired from fussing. That girl likes to be bounced or rocked or swayed all the time. And she is heavy! It's a workout for sure. So, I was going over most days just to give Colin a break so that he could maybe grab a bite of lunch, or put a load of laundry in, etc. Luckily Iris started drinking from a bottle over the weekend. I'll be going back over today and am anxious to see how she is.
Our weekend was wet and chilly. We had rain on both days and the temps hovered around 40 or 42. I decided on Saturday to make a big pot of Spicy Red Lentil Soup and I also baked Cuban Bread.
A nice chewy bread with a good crust. It went perfectly with the soup.
Sunday was filled with chores - laundry and scrubbing floors. I still managed to find some time for reading, knitting and stitching. So, overall, a lovely weekend.
This morning I will call to re-schedule my colonoscopy (IF I can get through - the line is often busy or I'm on hold for 15+ minutes!). And, I will head back to see Colin and Iris before lunch. I'll take a book and knitting in case she decides it's ok to take a nap after all!
I hope your weekend was a good one and I hope your Monday is shaping up to be a great start to the week!
Oof... I am sorry for the delay of the colonoscopy! (I have one coming up as well... sigh.) But Iris! What a rascal! (My Heidi would NOT drink from a bottle... ever. She went from "breast" to a sippy cup, lol... and her stubbornness has not waned with age! LOL) I hope that Mailing is doing okay in her return to work but how nice that Colin can be home now! (and so good of you to help out!)
ReplyDeleteIt does feel quite cold and chilly and soup and bread sound like just the thing. I'm glad you can go over and give Colin a break, and get in some Iris snuggles. I need to go to the post office so I'm trying to work up the gumption for that and then I need to come home and scrub the kitchen floor like I've been threatening for a week. Good for you for getting it done!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with my new Grand. He doesn't like to take a bottle from me and makes a big production out of it before he finally gives in. Poor guy. I feel bad for MIL who is his usual sitter when she gets him back this week after him being with his mom for all this time up in Vermont. He's not going to be a happy camper I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are getting in a lot of Iris-time but sorry she was not happy about changing the mode of delivery for her milk! The soup and bread sounds like a great combo!
ReplyDeleteErin was very unhappy with a bottle as well, but eventually she got the hang of it. And then . . . quickly transitioned to a sippy cup. I'm so glad you're getting plenty of Iris-snuggles . . . and I'm sure Colin appreciates a little break now and then. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt’s wonderful that you are able to step in to help Colin - another benefit of being retired.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the bread recipe? Would you mind sharing? Original is with lard and I don't know which substitute works best. Enjoy the snuggles!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Iris! So much change in her little life!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I'm sorry about the delay with the colonoscopy. Good thing you're getting all those Iris snuggles! My niece was also refusing a bottle at first and my brother and sister-in-law were worried because she needed to be able to take one for daycare, but my mother finally got her to accept one.
ReplyDeleteHearing that story of Iris refusing the bottle reminds me of when I went back to work after my maternity leave with Hannah. She was a champion nurser and never had an issue with the bottle (unless I was anywhere in the vicinity LOL) until a week before my scheduled work return. Then she suddenly started refusing the bottle and I was so upset and anxious about what would happen. My mom took it all in stride and said, if I have to drive her to the library 3 times a day so that she can nurse, then I will drive her to the library 3 times a day. Luckily it never came to that but it was a stressful time. I say all this to encourage you to keep being there for Colin, I'm sure it's making things easier for him.
ReplyDeleteHope you get your test rescheduled quickly. How nice that you get some Iris time whether or not she is being sad about the bottle.
