Hello Everyone!
April is National Poetry Month (actually I think of every month as being for poetry...but that's another story). This April I am joining Bonny, Kym, Kat, and Sarah to share poems each Thursday in April. This week we are sharing poems about HOPE (which we all need right now!).
I looked through a lot of poetry books and then went down a number of rabbit holes on the Web and suddenly I came across this poem. I had not heard of the poet previously, but this poem spoke to me in a way that others I considered did not. I hope you enjoy it.
Hope
Hope has holes
in its pockets.
It leaves little
crumb trails
so that we,
when anxious,
can follow it.
Hope’s secret:
it doesn’t know
the destination
it knows only
that all roads
begin with one
foot in front
of the other.

Poetry is an everyday thing in my life as well, Vera! But I love April when I hope to inspire others to read more poetry!! This poem is brilliant! (Because of course it is!) I love the imagery here! Thank you so much for sharing it! (and I am so very glad you are joining us!!)
ReplyDeleteThis is so true, and something that I often struggle to remember. Just one foot in front of the other, even if we don't know where we're going. Thanks for celebrating National Poetry Month and sharing HOPE!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great poem, Vera. I love thinking about hope having "holes in its pockets!" That's such a great visual that I will hold close in These Days. XO
ReplyDeleteOh, I really love this one. Thank you! One foot in front of the other is just brilliant. The reminder is well-timed, so thank you again!
ReplyDeleteI actually read this one, too, when I was looking for my poem! I love the idea of leaving a breadcrumb trail of hope.
ReplyDeleteSweet.
ReplyDeleteToday is a good day for putting that foot in front of the other. Watching my retirement fund disappear by the hour hasn't been fun.
ReplyDeleteI love this one, It speaks to me!!
