Unraveled Wednesday 9/21/22

 Good Morning All,

It's that time again - Wednesday - to link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to talk making and reading - two perfect things!!

On the making side of things, I'm happy that the 2nd sock is well on the way to being finished.  Will I finish before we leave on vacation?  I don't know (busy, busy, busy), but I'm going to try!

The heel flap and heel turn have been knit and I am on the gusset decreases.  Then it should be smooth sailing through the foot.

I'm holding off getting anything from the library to read since we leave next Tuesday on vacation.  But, it's not like I don't have books to choose from at home!  I started one of the books I picked up at the thrift shop a couple of weeks ago:  Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.  I'm not sure why I never read this (unless it was the fact that Latin terrorists storming a party didn't sound good to me), but I'm enjoying it now.  It is not a quick read for me...there is plenty to think about.

Fletch and I have started listening to a new book after dinner:  The Way Home by Mark Boyle - billed as a modern day "Walden."  So far it is ok...good...not fabulous, but time will tell.

Once again my day ahead looks busy.  I've errands to run and the office to visit.  I also need to call my doctor to get some prescriptions refilled before we leave on vacation (good thing I looked!!).  It looks to be a beautiful day - the sky was streaked with pink when I woke up at 6:30.  Really beautiful.

Wishing you all a wonderful day - get out there and enjoy it!

  1. You are flying on that second sock! I don't know if you'll finish before vacation but there is always some time to knit on vacation (even if it's just in the car). Bel Canto is very good and it's great that you have it to look forward to. If you're like me, you plan all the vacation reading and making carefully but then barely get them out of the bag. But you still need to have them, just in case!

  2. You are moving right along on that second sock! Well done you!

And I agree... Bel Canto provides so much food for thought!

  3. I read Bel Canto when it was first published, and loved it. I re-read it this spring, but found it loses some impact when you already know what happens. ;-) Still . . . I always love a book by Ann Patchett. I can imagine the flurry of activity for you as you prep for vacation! It's always such a crazy time as you make decisions about what to bring . . . (Just remember, all will be well.) XO

  5. I hope you can manage to finish that last sock foot before you leave -- you might need the socks! Glad you're enjoying Bel Canto. I still have a very distinct memory of reading it while sitting on the porch of the house I grew up in and being completely engrossed.

  6. Now that the sock is at the gusset, you should easily finish before next week. I’m still slogging ahead on my second sock. It’s finally at the heel flap, so maybe I can make more progress now. Cool again today, but the sun is shining.

  8. I too have never read Bel Canto even though AP is one of my favorites. I'll have to give it a go!

  10. Great job on the sock...it will be finished in no time. I'm on the foot of the second sock of a pair I've had going for two months now because they keep getting set aside.
It sounds like you're getting things done for vacation.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. It's odd how some books aren't just right for the moment and then later they are just what I want to read. I hope the time getting ready for vacation isn't too tiring. The sock looks great. Once the gusset is finished I feel like the foot practically knits itself.
