One Winner and One Loser

 Good Morning All,

How are you?  I'm well, though I'd like to sleep through one night without waking up at 3 a.m.!  And, I'd like to not wake in the middle of the night with a charlie horse in my right calf!  Geese Louise!  Or, rather, ouch.  Anyway, Mabel who had stayed in last night came up around 3:30 insisting that I get up to let her out, so I did that and then, luckily, managed to fall back asleep until 6:30.  Now I'm in the process of enjoying my first cup of coffee.  There's a little bit of a chill in the air, so the warmth of the coffee is especially nice this morning.

Yesterday I mentioned that I was making a new (to me) curry dish for dinner.  Well, that was the loser in the title of this post!

It's too bad as I love everything in it:  chicken, peppers, squash (yellow), peas, cilantro, red onions, peanuts, curry paste, coconut milk.  I really need to find a good curry recipe.

On the flip side I did make a winner!  The weather was perfect for cooking up a recipe I've made in the past for a chili sauce/artisinal ketchup.

This stuff is so good - it has onions, peppers, a ton of tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and some spices (cinnamon, mace, allspice, nutmeg).  It cooks for 2+ hours on the stove and then has a 10 minute water bath to seal the jars.  It is chunky - not smooth like regular ketchup.  I did use my immersion blender to mash up some of it, but the chunks are nice.

No major plans for today - some laundry and a conference call at 11.  I'm hoping to find some time to knit and/or stitch.  Wishing you all a wonderful weekend - enjoy!

  1. Bummer about the curry recipe and I can't offer any help with that since my go-to for curry is take out. Have a great weekend!

  2. I hope you can get a good night's sleep tonight so you can feel rested and ready to go at NJ Sheep & Wool tomorrow! That chili sauce/ketchup sounds and looks delicious. I wouldn't mind trying it if you would like to share the recipe.

  3. What was wrong with the curry? That's too bad; it looks like it would be delicious.

I just got a huge haul of tomatoes from my sister, whose garden has gone crazy now. I'm making salsa today, fresh though, not for canning.

  5. I had my first solid night's sleep in weeks last night! I pass it on to you for tonight! The food looks good--the chili sauce looks just like my Mom's and I loved the way the house smelled as she made it!

  6. I can smell those spices as soon as you mention them - mom used to make a lot of pickles/relishes when we were kids. She has a chili sauce that sounds very similar (I didn't actually EAT it of course, but I liked the smell)

  7. Sorry about the curry and the poor night's sleep. I hope tonight is better on both counts so you can be up and at 'em for the festival tomorrow!

  9. My sister used Theraworx spray for night cramps and claimed that it worked well. And that little chill is NOT little!! Sun was nice and warm today for a change but once it's gone, sweats are on. And the recipe is .......????

  10. I'm sorry about the night cramps. Mom has had them every night this week for some reason. We're supposed to cool down from 93 today to 65 for the high tomorrow. It will bounce right back to the high 80's on Sunday to not too long of a respite from the heat. I'm going to enjoy the one day of cool, even if it is supposed to rain all day.
It's been busy and unstopping. Soon it will calm down, but I'm not sure when.
Take care and enjoy you're weekend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. I've never had luck with curry either in spite of having a cabinet full of curry spices. I like it in theory but never in execution.

  12. I am nodding with Dee's statement... it does look so pretty. I wish I could be more help with a curry recipe (I use the "cheater's" curry... you know, the one that comes from a jar! LOL)

I hope you had loads of fun yesterday at the festival!
