Good (Chilly) Morning!
There is a nip in the air and I confess to putting the heat on in various rooms this morning (we have electric heat and each room in our house has its own thermostat). A few days ago I came downstairs and it felt fine and then I realized that Fletch had left the heat on (as low as possible) in our downstairs bathroom. That was enough to take the chill off. But this morning - nothing! So I cranked it on in the living room, kitchen and downstairs bathroom. I put it on briefly in the office room (where I am sitting now), but I turned it off soon. Coffee going down the throat is warming me as I sit here typing.
I woke up this morning to this little sweetie walking across the bed. I guess she is getting used to us! LOL She is a very talkative little thing. Yesterday she sat in front of the sliding door to the patio talking up a storm to the various birds out there. There are times when she almost coos like a dove. She could be a bird whisperer - HA!
Well, today is Wednesday which means Unraveled Wednesday. As usual, I am linking up with Kat and other Merry Unravelers to talk about making and reading. Peggy's sock doesn't look all that different from last week, but it's true that a few (very few) rows have been added.
For some reason other things have been occupying my time. Not a single stitch or row was added to my second French Market Bag. Furthermore, there has been no start on the cowl I want to make for Mailing's Mom or the scarf I want to make for her Dad. I'd best get cranking!
On the reading side of things, I finished one book the other night: The Dark Vineyard by Martin Walker (thanks Kat for the reminder of this series). This is book #2 in the Bruno, Chief of Police series that takes place in the French countryside. Last night I started another book in the Linda Castillo series that takes place in the Ohio Amish countryside. I also picked up a couple more books from the library - Malibu Rising finally came in (I had been on the wait list forever!!) as well as Life in a Day by Doris Grumbach which Jane had mentioned on her blog. I had not heard of Grumbach, but the description of her book reminded me of May Sarton's journals which I devoured decades ago.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I will be heading to the office today. But, I don't intend to go in till maybe 10 a.m. I'll stop at the liquor store to pick up some wine...also champagne for Colin & Mailing (we completely forgot their 1st anniversary!!) and also Trader Joe's for a couple of things. I'm hoping for a peaceful afternoon filled with some knitting! And perhaps a bit of kitten cuddling!

Mabel looks cuter every time you post a picture! I hope your day at the office goes as planned, especially with knitting and kitten-cuddling to look forward to. I'm off to look for Life In a Day at my library. It sounds just like the type of book I enjoy. Thanks to you and Jane!

ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that Mabel is settling in well! We've had the heat on for the past few days (mainly because the temperature is dropping overnight -- it was 39 when we got up yesterday). It's so much harder to get up in the morning when the bed it warm but the house is cold!

Mabel is just adorable! My goodness what a little cutie! It is a chilly morning here as well! Good, I say! I have a sweater on and a mug of hot coffee and my blog reader is full!
ReplyDeleteWe've lost the humidity and it is actually nice to be outside again! It's been months but now comes a very good stretch of weather for us!

We had electric heat at the townhouse, and it was nice to be able to only heat certain rooms. We never turned the heat on in the bathroom because it was right in the middle of upstairs and got enough ambiant heat from the other rooms.
ReplyDeleteThe new house has a gas furnace. We haven't turned it on yet (I try to keep the furnace off until Nov 1 if I can). But... yesterday, I confirmed (I had suspicions, but had to move some furniture)... for some strange reason, our master bedroom does NOT have a heat vent. There's a lot of weird things in this house, but that might be the weirdest. The only thing I can think of, is that it was in the side wall, which was taken out when they put the addition on (some time in the '60s we think). The room was extended, and the new wall is three feet further back... but there's still no vent in the new part. So weird!
We'll be able to figure it out when we renovate that room, but it won't be for a while. I figure I have a lot of quilts, and if it's to cold, I can get an infrared heater for it.

ReplyDeleteWe went right from AC on blast to heat last week. I hate it. Sadly our weather people are saying this is the new norm for the area. I've been looking for a day to power wash the house for winter but it's either too hot and buggy out or too darn cold.
I'm so happy to hear she's getting more engaged with you! She'll be a great cat!

I usually don’t turn the heat on (electric heaters) until November, but I turned it on “low” last week because it snowed and was cold in the apartment. It snowed again yesterday (4”) so the heat may be on for the winter.
ReplyDeleteI've had to heat the house a few times as well, waking up to temps in the 40s. And still, the leaves here are green overall! It's so odd.
ReplyDeleteMabel is so cute and it sounds like she's settling in and developing her personality. Those spots just add to her appeal.
The kitty is feeling more at home. A cat as a bird whisperer - now that is something to consider. We arrived home yesterday and the house was 64 degrees so I set the thermostat to 67 to take off the edge. Sounds like you have had some busy days.
