Unraveled Wednesday October 13, 2021

 Good Morning!

How are you on this mid-week day in the middle of October?  (I'm not sure how we got to the [almost] middle of October already!)  Yesterday was a study in frustration in so many ways.  Fletch and I headed out around 10:30.  We stopped at a local farm stand and got some pumpkins for our front step.  Then we headed to the Acme (grocery store) where we had seen signs over the weekend for booster and flu shots.  Turns out we can't get the booster until after October 20th (our last vaccine was April 20th and you have to wait a full 6 months).  OK, no problem, we'll take the flu shot and come back for the booster.  Turns out that Acme is not an accepted provider for our insurance (BC/BS of NC).  OK, we'll head over to CVS where we get our prescriptions filled.  No appointment and it could have been a 30 minute wait, so we decided to skip that.  I called them later in the day to make an appointment and was told you have to book on line.  Went on line, no appointments available.  Grrrrr.  Called them back and was told you can just come in, the wait is never half an hour - at most 15 minutes.  We will give it a try tomorrow.

Work was crazy too.  As I mentioned, it is bonus calculation time.  Bonus payments are funded by excess profit at the unit level.  So if you beat your budget by $10K, you have $10K for bonus payments.  Requested bonus payments cannot exceed available funding.  One of my RDOs sent in his bonus calcs for his region yesterday and...you guessed it...the first one I checked showed payments in excess of funding.

This is the type of thing that makes me crazy and ultimately makes more work for me.  I don't know if he didn't check, or didn't care, or forgot, or what.  But it sure is annoying.

However, it is Unraveled Wednesday and I am linking up with Kat and all the Merry Unravelers to talk about knitting and reading.  A little bit of knitting has been accomplished.  First up we have the first sock for Peggy.

The heel flap has been knitted and the heel has been turned.  Only 2-3 rows after that however as work email exploded and yesterday afternoon and evening were busy.

There was also a bit of knitting on the 2nd French Market bag.

I'm loving these colors together.  Especially the grey and the green.  I think the purple just adds a nice pop of color, but the primary tones will be grey and green.  I'll keep going round and round on this as I definitely want it to be larger than the first one I made.

On the reading side of things, I finished When We Were Young and Brave by Hazel Gaynor.  It was good, but not what I would call compelling.  It was easy enough to put down.  I think I'm just tired of books set in the time of the 2nd World War.  I've started The Dark Vineyard by Martin Walker - the second book featuring Bruno, Chief of Police in a little sleepy (maybe not so much) French village.  An enjoyable read.

Well, I've got a very busy day ahead at the office and it is now time to pour another cup of coffee and get dressed and ready to head in.  Wishing you all a marvelous Wednesday!

  1. I hope today is a better day. There is so much confusion about the boosters. Daughter who is expecting wanted to get one but now her doctor is saying no to wait but at the same time the headlines are full of pregnant women who are dying all over the country. My sister who had Covid and is also vaxed has been going to get her antibodies checked on a regular basis so Daughter might at least go see if that is a possibility. Our numbers here are so bad. In 2020 I was freaking out over 4 or 5 cases a week and we are up to 40 and 50 cases a week right now. Some schools are reporting as many as 70 cases of it but no one seems to think it's a big deal anymore. I am not sure how we managed to lose interest in a deadly virus but it seems we have.

  2. It's a good thing your company has you checking the numbers! I'm not a great math-er, but I sometimes have to do some basic math as part of my fact checking for work, and you wouldn't believe the number of times I add up numbers in, say, a pie chart and find that they total well more than 100%! (Actually, you probably would!)

I hope work is calmer today and that you're able to get your flu shot sorted out.

  3. I also hope for a better day for you today. It's pretty bad when you try to do the right thing and get immunized but are thwarted at every turn. I got a flu shot at Walgreen's after making an appt., and had at least a 45 min. wait. The poor pharmacist was so harried, but sitting indoors around so many unmasked people made me nervous.

But your socks and French market bag are looking good! Today may be busy, but I hope the frustration is at a minimum.

  4. All this frustration surrounding the boosters is...well, frustrating! I'm grateful for them, of course, but grrrr. We got the J&J, which was the first available for us, and now we're in this holding pattern because of our age (62) and because of the manufacturer of our vaccine.

I love the heathering of the sock yarn--so soft and pretty. And you've made so much progress on both your projects already!

    Lovely knitting as always! :)

  6. Oh - tell me about people who don't pay attention at work... 50% of my job is pointing out other's mistakes! It makes you wonder how these people get through life sometimes!

Love the colours of the market bag!

  7. Peggy’s socks are going to be fabulous- love the colors. The predicted snow fell and it’s COLD today, currently 29° and windy. Sorry about the vaccine run around. No Moderna boosters yet, but I read yesterday they will probably be half doses.

  8. Sorry for the frustrations, both vaccine wise and work wise.

  9. I think we lucked out on our flu shots. We made an appointment a half hour beforehand, showed up and were in and out in less than 5 minutes! The shingles shot took a little longer and then the booster has to wait a few more weeks because of the shingles shot!
Boy do I understand correcting math at work. I was a bookkeeper back when I worked. I couldn't believe how a LOT of people don't know basic math. Sorry you have so much to deal with there.
That market bag is going to be a beauty, love the colors. My sock has stalled again because I had so many errands yesterday, plus a long doctor appointment.
Have a good day today Vera.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. they do NOT make getting vaccines easy. I made our appointments for the flu on line at CVS and it was labored. They want too much info! Lovely knitting and I hope you get the shots super fast.

  11. I get frustrated over confusing information, too! I hope you can get your flu shots with less drama this time. And may it be a calm work day! The socks look great!

  12. From the very beginning getting these shots was a exercise in frustration. Sounds like the booster shots will be the very same thing. UGH!

    The sock is looking good!

  13. The sock looks very nice. I also like the colors in the Market Bag. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with gray. I'm not sure what that says about me but it is what it is. We got flu shots before our last trip East. I waited twenty minutes or so at our CVS. They are short handed. I'm with you, I wouldn't do a Covid booster and a flu shot at the same time. We are waiting for the Moderna boosters to be approved. Soon I hope.
