Unraveled Wednesday May 5, 2021

 Hello!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!  If I had been thinking I would have taken out something from the freezer so we could have Mexican food for dinner.  I took out salmon.  Oh well.  It's Hump Day, Wednesday and, therefore, Unraveled Wednesday.  As always, I'm linking up with Kat and friends to talk about making and reading.  First up:  Beekeeper Socks:

Oh how I love the way these turned out.  I finished them up on Monday and am just so happy with them.  They are soft and very squishy.  The pattern is just a simple K6, P2 around the leg.  I did keep the pattern on the top of the foot.  The yarn is from KnitPicks - Static (75/25) and the colorway is "Beekeeper" (not sure how they came up with that name, but...).  I used #2 needles and these are for Colin.  Not sure when I will give them to him.  For now they are sitting upstairs.  Fletch says I won't be able to wait for any special occasion and will just give them to him soon.  Probably.

Yesterday I successfully managed to avoid doing any chores or trying to reorganize my closet, etc. and instead started my Wintertide shawl.

I managed the garter tab start and set up rows.  The Lifted Left Increases and Lifted Right Increases gave me a little bit of a fit, but I think I figured them out and I think it looks ok.  The yarn (Cascade Heritage - 75% superwash and 25% nylon) is very soft and also quite splitty.  I'm hoping to cast on a new pair of socks today.  The yarn, also from KnitPicks, reminds me of confetti or bubblegum.  More to come on that later.

On the reading front, last night I finished the 3rd book by Matt Goldman in the Nils Shapiro series The Shallows which was pretty good.  There is one more in the series that I will try to get from the library.  Fletch and I have started reading The Good Good Pig by Sy Montgomery.  I had read this years ago, but don't really remember it.  So far, so good.

Today I'm heading to the office for a short while, so I'd best pour another cup of coffee, dry my hair and get dressed.  Wishing you all a great day.  Be sure you head over to Kat's to see what others are making and reading.

  1. I had also forgotten about Cinco de Mayo, so maybe I can talk John into tacos for dinner (not his favorite). Your socks (actually Colin's!) look wonderful, and I like the color of your shawl. Maybe the special occasion to give the socks to Colin is just you guys being together!

  2. I don't see the connection with a beekeeper, either, but I love the socks! The colors remind me of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Hope Colin loves them!

  3. I love those socks! (We are having chicken fajitas tonight but that is only because there was some discussion over the weekend that Cinco de Mayo was looming!)

I am off to find that Matt Goldman series.

  5. I had forgotten about Cinco de Mayo! Hmmm. We're having stuffed green peppers for dinner since I've already gotten everything ready.
That was the same pattern I used for my latest socks. I really like it. Easy to remember and execute and enough interest to make them fun. Plus they stay up better than plain stockinette.
    Have a fun day Vera.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Great looking socks. They seemed to come off your needles pretty swiftly, overall.

Thanks for the tip about Cinco de Mayo; I have a couple avocados that need to be used, so burritos for dinner! It's easy to toss boneless chicken breasts, a jar of salsa, and a packet of taco seasoning in the crock for the filling. You just planned my dinner! A big thank you, Vera.

  10. Beekeepers — perhaps, blue sky, golden honey, and grey smoke (it calms the bees). Colin will love the socks, now or later.

  11. I love that Static yarn too. It is soft and squishy and the colors are really nice. Mine are still giving me fits because apparently I can't count anymore. The heel turn has been quite the adventure.

  13. The socks turned out great. Ha - I would also give them away sooner rather than later. The shape of that shawl is really nice. The color you have chosen looks perfect to me but then it is blue!

  15. Love your socks! I knit my Pressed Flowers shawl with Cascade Heritage yarn. It was beautiful -- very soft and squishy -- but SUPER splitty. It made me a little nuts sometimes . . . but it turned out nicely. I think it will make a lovely shawl for you -- and the blue is beautiful! XO
