Rhubarb!

 Good Morning!

It's Friday, thank goodness.  This has been a very busy week work-wise and I am so ready for the weekend.  First I have to get through this morning (3 conference calls).  I did manage to go through my closet and dresser drawers yesterday and ended up with 2 Trader Joe grocery bags stuffed (to the breaking point) for donation.  And, I don't think I got rid of enough.  I'll probably be pulling more aside.

We are heading to Colin & Mailing's for dinner tomorrow - celebrating Mother's Day.  Mailing's parents and her sister will be there too (and probably Otto...Anna's dog).  My task is to make a strawberry-rhubarb pie, so yesterday I headed out to the garden to cut some rhubarb.

That bottom leaf!  It is larger than a turkey platter - LOL.  I keep hearing in my head (as I date myself) Ed Sullivan saying "a really Big Leaf" like he used to say "a really Big Show" except he pronounced it Shew.  LOL  I'm easily amused.

Yesterday was another day where no knitting was done.  Not even picked up!  Will I be able to remedy that this afternoon?  Here's hoping.

Here's hoping too that all you Mothers (Ha!) have a very Happy Mother's Day.  Happy Weekend!

  1. Those are big leaves!!!
I need to do a closet clean out myself. I haven't touched half of the things in there in years and I have no desire to. When the world finally gets back to normal (if) I think I will deserve some new clothes.

  2. People have told me that it's easy to grow rhubarb, so maybe this will be the year I give it a try. I'd love to be able to go out into the yard and get some fresh! My daughter has never tasted it, so this summer we'll need to get our hands on some and try out some recipes.

I hope the conference calls go quickly and you can get some knitting time in today!

  3. I've been seeing signs all along country roads for rhubarb. It's terrific that you have your own plants that are obviously flourishing.

I still have a little of the rhubarb liqueur that we made last year. I won't be making that again; will you? Lots of messing around for meh results.

  4. my dad grew rhubarb when I was growing up but I do not recall eating it!! I'm not sure if he still grows it now. May your conference call be brief and your knitting be forever.

  5. Your rhubarb is really large! Mine must be a slow starter as the leaves aren't nearly that big yet and I don't have enough to make a pie. I hope your conference calls speed by (or maybe even get cancelled), I hope you get to knit and have a wonderful Mother's Day, Vera!

  7. I'm not sure I'll have rhubarb to harvest this year, but I think it might be too early to call. It's amazing how big those leaves can get!! Have a fun get together. And have a very happy Mother's Day!!

  11. I just planted rhubarb here at the new place when I got here. I went to the farm with Neal and got rhubarb cuttings so I could have a part of home, (Spokane). Mom's is ready to pull, but I don't think we'll get much this year.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. Rhubarb is a sure sign of spring. Mine needs to grow a little more before there is enough for a pie or cobbler. Hope you had a nice Mother's Day weekend.
