Unraveled Wednesday - July 15, 2020

Good Morning!

It's Wednesday.  Mid-week and mid-month (how is it possible that we are already halfway through July?).  I haven't done much knitting this week, but here's an overall shot of the Hellebore Hitchhiker which I haven't shown in a little while.

This picture does not really do the yarn justice.  It is simply beautiful and fun.  I'm now up to 24 teeth and the rows are steadily growing in length.

On the reading side of things I am about a third of the way through Song Yet Sung and am thoroughly enjoying it.  Parts of it are difficult to read, but the language and writing are excellent.

Colin and Mailing were over for dinner last night.  Fletch grilled a flat iron steak which was delicious (marinated it for several hours in a combination of soy sauce, sherry, honey, ginger and garlic) and we had a green bean, tomato and onion salad (dressed in EVOO, lemon juice, garlic & basil) and corn on the cob which I had picked up at Trader Joe's.  The corn was tasty...but 79 cents an ear seems high to me (though when Fletch got it the other week he paid $2 an ear!!).

Colin & Mailing left after dinner and went over to Colin's office.  He no longer goes into work, but he has a garden plot there and had not checked on it in about 4 weeks.  He is growing eggplant, cauliflower and I forget what else - he has a bunch of stuff planted.  Then the kids came back and we had a fire in the pit.  I was thinking it would be too warm to enjoy it, but actually it was very nice sitting out back around the fire.

Work was annoying yesterday.  I don't think anyone checks their work these days!  I received an amendment to a contract that had been approved by our legal department and was ready for signature.  It was an 18th amendment and the word Eighteenth was mis-spelled at the top of the page!  And, the footer of the document read 16th amendment.  I guess people just don't care these days.

Linking up with Kat for Unraveled Wednesday.  Head on over to her place to see what others are making and reading.  May the last half of this week be a good one for everyone!

  1. Your Hitchhiker is looking lovely!

I think Song Yet Sung must be The Book of this summer. I am also reading it (via audiobook). It's been my companion for my walks and runs, and it's really good.

  3. Your Hellebore Hitchhiker is looking very nice! I just finished Song Yet Sung and have the author's Deacon King Kong and The Color of Water on hold. Hope today holds better things than the misspelling of Eighteenth!

  5. Beautiful shawl indeed! (and I think work ennui is all over...daily Steve wants to rage at work because of sheer stupidity. I said it is because we are all stressed because of brain overload, but it still makes him crazy, lol)

  6. You know how I feel about people being lax with The Language. My husband actually just called me from the road only to tell me about an ad he heard on the radio: a funeral home saying you could "pre-pay in advance". Horrors.

  7. I have been noticing errors even in the NYT and WaPo. Corona stress, etc., is everywhere.

  8. Lovely Hitchhiker! An outdoor fire sounds wonderful. I wish the bugs weren't so bad here. It's been quite nice out in the evenings.

  9. Thanks for the book title - I’ll look for it. Your Hitchhiker is progressing well. I need to look through my stash for some yarn to knit another one.

  10. I know what you mean about not caring......you should see my prescription list that was sent from my doctor to CVS. CVS could not made hide, nor hair from it. Hopefully, I'll be getting the right things after I explained what the dr. SHOULD have written. (Called NEW doctor for appt. this morning. I'll tell you about it on Sat. What a mess!)

The hellabore hitchhiker looks great. Hard to think about wearing woolies in this weather, isn't it??? But yet ........we continue to knit. LOL

  12. Oh - corn on the cob! Our local stuff won't be ready until late july/early August. Last year I think the cheapest I saw it was 50 cents a cob. I wonder how much COVID will affect the price this year.

Your hitchhiker is really coming along. Beautiful colours!

99% of my job is fixing silly mistakes in people's documents... no one double checks anything anymore.

  13. Bravo on the HH progress.. I think I've told you I have one in the making SOMEwhere. I never got the hang of the "teeth" and had different sizes of them. :-) Your weekend meals sound delish. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. Your Hellabore Hitchhiker is looking great. I'm so jealous of the time you get to spend with Colin and Mailing. We were supposed to be leaving next week to go to Nebraska to see family, especially Dennis' Mom, his sister who is very, very sick and of course Mandy and Piper. My cardiologist has said absolutely not with the upswing in Covid cases. I miss our family. It's so frustrating. He said last month he would have okayed it but not now.
I enjoyed hearing about your meal. I think I need to start doing some marinating too. I always seem to forget that option.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

Even in the photos, I can see that the yarn for your Hitchhiker is gorgeous. That is a great pattern for showing off variagated yarns.
