Unraveled Wednesday 7/29/20

Good Morning!

I think I've already asked this question, but how did it get to be the end of July already?  The summer is flying by.

Yesterday I did not manage to go through my yarn looking for fingerless mitt yarn.  I'll try to do that today.  And the only knitting I managed to do was on the Hellebore Hitchhiker after dinner.

Looks the same as last time, doesn't it?  I swear it is a little longer, it's just difficult to see that.  This Hitchhiker is taking FOREVER to knit.  I'm not sure why as the yarn is wonderful to knit with and I love the colors.  Usually I find knitting a Hitchhiker to be meditative and relaxing...but this time it is just boring to me.  But, I will carry on and get it finished...at some point.  Meanwhile, I really need to pull out something else to work on too.

Did you see Clara Parke's Respite page from yesterday with the crocheted cat couches?  (Val - thinking of you!!)  I sent it to Colin & Mailing with a note that I would NOT be making any cat couches.  Colin replied with this picture:

What a fluff ball Marcel is!  And...the crocheted afghan (one HUGE granny square) is the one I made in college (so it is 45+ years old!!).

I'm still slowly getting through "Song Yet Sung" but am only about 50% of the way finished.  Another thing that is taking me forever!  Fletch and I did finish reading "Survival of the Bark Canoe" by John McPhee (a re-read for us, but enjoyable) and we have started "Woodswoman" by Anne LaBastille (another re-read).

On the agenda today - we both are having blood drawn so are heading to the lab together mid-morning.  Mine is for the Lyme test to see if it is indeed what my rash was.  And then our neighbor Rob is coming over for dinner tonight (making chicken stir fry).

Be sure to head over to Kat's to see what others are making and reading.  Happy mid-week!!

  1. I hear you about boring knits... but that yarn is anything but boring. I think when finished, that will be one stunning Hitchhiker!

  2. Those cat couches just cracked me up! And, yeah. I think Marcel has created his very own cat couch!!! I have a granny square afghan (a variety of square-sizes) that I knit for my parents when I was just out of college -- and it is still extremely functional (especially as a dog couch. . . ). I made mine from Red Heart acrylic, and it has held up really well! Love seeing your big granny square still in action, too! XO

  3. Hello,

The yarn is pretty. That is a nice cat couch and afghan. Marcel is a cutie. I hope all goes well with the blood work and lymes test. Chicken stir fry sounds yummy. Take care, enjoy your day!

  4. That yarn on that cloth is so lovely! Makes me think of plaid quilts. Hope your blood draw gives you answers

  5. I loved the first Hitchhiker I made and the second one became a slog for me! Hang in there-the yarn is beautiful. Hope the lab work goes well.

  6. I think there is some kind of Hitchhiker time warp where you knit and knit but it doesn't seem to get any bigger. I hope you can break out of that and finish someday as it's really lovely yarn. Marcel is so fluffy and sweet and that afghan looks great!

  7. It seems that Marcel creates his own cat couch. I know my Piper and Marlowe stopped using their cat beds years ago. They disdain all cat furniture.

I keep seeing other Hitchhikers and think that I'd like to start one. Then...nope. Yours is lovely, if frustrating right now.

Hoping your lab provides you with answers.

Good luck with the blood draw.

  9. wishing I had my crocheted afghan from college...that's where I learned to crochet! My roommate in college had an aunt who would send her boxes...full of crocheted things. Honestly, Aunt Helen could crochet anything...weird stuff besides the requist 60s ponchos and blankets. And always included things I had never eaten like pomagranites. Good memories!

  10. Hitchhikers can be tedious to knit. Adding eyelet lace stitches randomly can break up the tedium.

  12. That's why all my pretty crocheted blankets live in a zip up bag under my bed. They would be covered in cat hair in seconds.

  13. Oh - I think Marcel needs a cat couch!
I still have to get the foam to restuff mine properly!

  14. Marcel has no need for a cat couch as he has a real couch to sleep on.
I wonder why the hitchhiker is taking you so long this time? Sometimes I do that too. A pattern I love and make over and over just becomes a bit boring to me. I'm working on a prayer shawl for a dear friend who is having surgery next week. She has been through cancer twice before and now a mass has been found on her colon. I couldn't find a pattern I like but found one that's "okay". I need to get it done as quickly as I can.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. That Marcel has life figured OUT (also, he clearly has his people just where he wants them ;-) Enjoy your dinner - sounds like the perfect way to end what might be a somewhat stressful day.

  16. I also like the colors in your HH and hope you get it done and dusted soon so you can move on to something more exciting to work on. I'm back to plugging along on my GDs blanket. I want to get it in the mail so it gets to her before her Aug. 22 birthday. Eek. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. Marcel looks quite contented on your pretty afghan. Sometimes when a project isn't sparking much excitement, I cast on something else and then alternate knitting on the two. I also put in a stitch marker when I pick up a project like that so I can see some progress. I like the hitchhiker colors.
