Easy Monday!

Hello All,

The Eagles won!  Now, most of you know that I could give a hoot who plays or wins at sports...just not my thing.  But, I have to admit I was rooting for the Eagles...the reason being that it was announced at work on Friday that if the Eagles won the Super Bowl, my office would be closed on Monday.  Woo-Hoo!  I didn't watch (I was watching Victoria), but I checked the score on my phone periodically.  Then my son texted me that they had won and then Dee texted me to say enjoy your day off!  So, I'm sitting in my office at home.  I'm glad I did not have to venture out.  This is what my backyard looked like earlier:

Everything glittering!  Ice on the branches and my clothesline.  This was taken through our patio door looking out to the garden and our woods beyond.l  The structures on the right are a type of greenhouse cover - we have kale and collards growing.

Fletch walked last night after 11 p.m. and said everything was glare ice.  Colin did drive into his office this a.m. and he said the roads were not bad (but the sidewalks were icy), and my friend Carol, down in Maryland, said everything was icy down there.  I'm happy to stay in.

Saturday we did venture down to DE to see my brother and his wife.  We had a great lunch of homemade soup and cornbread.  I had made a salad to go with it all and, of course, a lovely bottle of red wine.  We drove back mid-afternoon stopping to grocery shop before getting home since the forecast for Sunday was pretty miserable.

After breakfast Sunday I set up my swift and ball winder and got out the red yarn for my February socks (Malabrigo in Tiziano Red).  Oy!  Hateful stuff!!!  The yarn snagged on my swift and the ball winder.  I had to take it off and wind the yarn by hand.  It was a huge mess.  I'm not sure why and it could be my fault, but it took ALL day yesterday and about half an hour this morning to finally get it wound.  Whenever I started to get aggravated I'd stop - I knew if I continued I'd pull too hard and break the yarn - LOL.

Between winding sessions yesterday I did pull out my Sigla sweater that I started last year and was able to figure out where in the pattern I am.  I didn't knit anything on it, but plan to get in some rows today.

I did do the random number thingy this morning and the winner of my extra copy of By Hand Serial Lookbook #5 is Mereknits - Meredith, please send me an e-mail (velane4@gmail.com) with your snail-mail address and I will get the book out to you this week!

OK, I'm off to read a few blogs and then figure out a pattern for my red socks!!  Hope everyone is having a good day.

  1. Sorry to hear that your yarn gave you such a problem. Hopefully, it will behave while it is being knit. I've used Malabrigo before and liked it a lot.

Happy day off and happy knitting.

  3. Yay EAGLES!!!! I was so nervous I had to turn the game off at the end and just watch the comments from fans on Twitter. I'm not a sports fan either but I got caught up in it all the same. I should have known better than to pick a side. I am not good with that much suspense.

  6. YAY for a paid holiday today! (back when I worked, one of my employees lobbied hard to make today a holiday - must admit I didn't get it until last year ;-)

When I worked in the yarn shop, we HATED to wind Malabrigo ... it always tangled! I'm sorry they haven't figured out how to put up a tangle-free skein still! Hope the rest of your day was easier!

  7. How nice to have been able to stay home today! And very smart to know when to stop untangling the yarn mess and to give it a rest-- it is so annoying when yarn snarls and breaks...

  9. Oh no, a nasty hank of yarn? I can never figure out why that happens, but it sure is irritating. Hope you got it all untangled. That was some game, wasn't it? Hope you've had a great day off! No ice here, but it is very soggy.......

  11. How great that you got a day off with the Eagles win! So fun! What a pain on the yarn though. I've had one or two skeins that have given me trouble, but I've been lucky overall. Now for the weather today. Again with the snow/ice. Ugh!
