Another Fire in the Pit!

Hello All,

Wow!  Yesterday was really, really warm.  Like major Spring-Almost-Summer warm!  Weird.  Today it is grey again and rain is forecast today, tomorrow, Saturday & Sunday...as well as falling temps.  It is February after all.

Colin came over yesterday for dinner instead of tonight since the forecast was better.  I made a new-to-me shrimp recipe but it was pretty meh...not one I will make again.  We were afraid we might get rained out, but the moisture held off until later, so we had a little fire.  I had gotten Fletch some of those pinecones you can throw in fires for pretty colors:

It was hard to capture, but you can see some of the green in the pic above.  There were also brilliant blues.

Colin snapped this one of me and Fletch:

No knitting last night, but I am planning to work on the misbehaving mitt at lunch today.

Yesterday I did (finally) finish "The Woman Who Smashed Codes" during lunch.  Such a good book and I feel as though my reading mojo is back now.  I started This Book which is light reading - sort of a chick-lit type and so far it is ok...I'm only about 20% into it and feel like it may bore me at some point, but for now it is ok.  Waiting in the wings is Glass Houses which I am anxious to read (the latest Inspector Gamache book).

That's it from me on this rainy Thursday.  Hope you are all having a great week!

  2. Yesterday was amazingly warm! I had all my windows open and got to hang laundry outside to dry, but even with the good stuff, it was still weird for February. I'm glad you had a nice fire pit evening, complete with colored fire! We used to have crystals that we threw in the fireplace when I was a kid and I loved the colors they produced. Hope the rest of your week is great!

  3. It's disappointing when a recipe doesn't catch on, isn't it? Especially when it's with an ingredient like shrimp. At least the rest of the evening made up for it.

  5. Love the color the pinecones added to the fire. I'll continue to soak up some warmth from your fire pit posts and photos because it's too dang cold here to be outside in the evening without several layers of clothes and a heavy parka.

  8. We must've been a couple of days ahead of y'all with the warming trend -- but couldn't really enjoy the warm weather outside because it was raining so dang hard! Now it's back to . . . winter.

  9. I was not impressed with yesterday, I think because I just didn't feel good. But disappointing shrimp would have been awful!

  11. I love your fire photos!!!! We have the wood stove going on most cold nights but it's not the same as the crackles from an open pit.

  12. this little glimpse of spring (almost summer) has been a welcome reprieve for us, too. know y'all are enjoying the fire pit - and those cool colors - so early in the year! (and you just reminded me that I have Glass Houses too - been saving it since the fall - think the time might be about right to dive in :-)
