Unraveled Wednesday 12/2/20

 Good Morning!

The wind howled around yesterday and last night (and still a bit this morning).  Turns out that our storm on Monday brought a tornado (or two) to the area.  Fletch ran some errands yesterday and came across an area where trees had been snapped off and several were uprooted and leaning on houses!  The news flash across my phone confirmed that yes indeed, a tornado touched down.  So thankful we were spared any damage or direct hits.

Work was thankfully quiet yesterday and I was able to get some wrapping finished and gifts ready to be shipped out.  My goal is to have all gifts to be shipped wrapped and ready by next week when I go back into the office.  That way I can easily ship from UPS (and we get a discount which is nice!!).  Even though my office is closed, the UPS guy (Dave) shows up twice a day and picks up packages too (he does have a key to our office).

Now we are at Unraveled Wednesday - the first in December 2020.  As usual, I am linking up with Kat to talk about knitting.  I'm happy to say that my Aspen socks are finished.

This was Thanksgiving morning - socks laid out on the ironing board (I had just finished ironing the tablecloth for Thanksgiving dinner!).  These were knit in "Less Traveled Yarn" from their Creosote Collection.  The colourway is "Aspen."  The pattern is Brandi by Debbie Bliss.  These may be the first pair I knit using metal needles (size 1) and oh boy!  Give me my wooden DPNs please.  The metal needles were so slippery!  I felt like I was constantly battling having stitches slip off the needles.  I guess it boils down to what you are familiar with and accustomed to using.

Believe it or not, I have NOTHING on the needles at the moment!  I started to cast on something for a friend (I can't say anything more as she MAY read the blog), but realized I need to adjust the pattern.  I also want to knit another pair of Kitty Ankle Socks for Mailing (she has requested some).  Given that it is December 2nd, I'd best get cracking on both these projects.

I found a note from Fletch on the kitchen table this morning (he always is up much later than I am) saying that a town in OH received 22.5" of snow yesterday!!  And another place in western NC received 15"!  Hope everyone is safe and staying warm.

  1. We are not that town in Ohio, but we got 12". I am irritated beyond measure. This is NOT the way I wanted to start December.

Or any month, really. I detest snow.

  2. Those are beautiful socks and you need to cast on something else soon! I've snapped too many wooden size 1 dpns, so I use metal needles now, but the wooden ones do feel warmer. I heard some story about shipping this morning and they recommended that people ship things no later than Dec. 11! That seems early, but better to get things sent in plenty of time.

  4. The socks turned out great.

That tornado wasn't all that far from us. Steve was out directing traffic most of the evening. It sure was a mess of debris, but thankfully nobody got hurt.

I thought I moved AWAY from all that crazy weather.

  6. The socks are great! Congrats on the finish. I would LOVE to have nothing on the needles. I was trying so hard to get some things done over the holiday weekend but that sure didn't happen. I can't believe folks SOUTH of us got snow and we didn't. It's cold here for sure but we had nothing but rain.

  9. Hello Vera,
Your finished socks are pretty. I heard about places in western Pa and Md had some snow. We had some flurries here, it is still very windy out. Take care, have a happy day!

  10. We had lots of wind . . . but no snow! (I'm not complaining.) Love your socks (and your tablecloth). I'm cranking out hats over here . . .

  11. Tornadoes. That's the reason I was so happy to leave the midwest and move to the Inland Northwest. Here we are, excited about moving back soon. But believe me, it's not because of the weather. We love it here but family beckons. Especially Piper. I'm glad you and Dee were both safe from the storms.
Your socks are lovely. I'm down to one sweater that I started last night for a Christmas present. I took all the packages to the post office early this morning when I was the only customer there. Everything except that sweater is done and mailed!
I use metal needles for socks. They are the Knit Pro zings and I love them. I also have the wooden Knit Picks dpn's too. I use both kinds. The Zings have tiny grippy rings that keep the yarn from sliding off, but enough slickness to make it easy to knit each stitch. I would actually like to get another set of them.
    Have a great afternoon.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. Nothing on the needles! That's always exciting - I have wayy to many unfinished objects - maybe I'll get a point one day when I can finish something and have nothing else in process.

  13. The socks look great and a clean slate on the needles. I can't remember the last time that happened around here but that's ok too. Sounds like you had quite a wind storm. Goodness.

  14. Wow. This area had a tornado years ago at the end of November. Weird!

    Those are really handsome socks.

  16. I'm glad the tornado missed you.. did I ever tell you my house was demolished by a tornado when I was 6 weeks old? We barely survived. Lovely sock finish. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. The socks look lovely!

I'm relieved to hear you weren't affected by the tornado. It sounds very scary! It must have been pretty unusual for your area, because they were talking about it on our local news here.
