Good Morning!
6:30 a.m. and it is dark out there! I woke up in the night and the moon was shining brighly in the back bedroom window. And then I saw Mars (I think). Did you all have a good Labor Day weekend?
Our weather was just about perfect! Friday Dee came over early afternoon and I took a break from work. We drove to the River Trail at Valley Forge and walked about 3 miles. Such a nice walk on a pretty trail. We came back to my house, fixed some iced beverages and settled in for a little knitting. I had to keep reminding myself to get up and check email once in awhile because I kept forgetting it was a work day - LOL.
Saturday and Sunday were spent at home or running errands (meaning grocery shopping and liquor store). Fletch grilled wings one night that were so good (half hot and half BBQ) and since our large tomatoes do not seem to be ripening, I picked 3 and made fried green tomatoes. Yum!
Monday we headed over to Colin & Mailing's for a cookout with everyone. Mailing's parents, sister, grandmother, uncle and cousins were all there. It was so nice to all be together.
Zohngren and Nainai (Mailing's Dad and Grandmother) surveying Colin's garden. Along one edge/cornber of their backyard, Colin planted some chinese gourds. The plants are dying, but there are a ton of gourds hanging:
Colin looking out over the back yard:
(His hair is getting pandemic long!). And some hot peppers from his garden as coffee table decor:
Colin grilled a bunch of dogs (beef, chicken-apple and Beyond Beef vegan dogs) and we had a bunch of pickled veggies to go with. Jason (Mailing's uncle) brought Moon Cakes and I had made coffee ice cream. It was a perfect day to sit outside and have a picnic. The kids (Mailing & Colin) were pretty tired, so we did not hang too long or stick around for a fire.
Well, it is TNT - Tiny Needle Tuesday - and as I had hoped, I made progress on the bottom section of Dona Dorothea. I managed to finish up the left bottom section and start the middle section:
It does feel good to be getting this finished!
This week I am only working Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, but it will be a busy week. I'll be in the office pretty much all day on Thursday and I really should go in this morning as well. We are having a retirement luncheon on Thursday for my peer who is retiring, and all 3 of my bosses will be in that day for meetings and the lunch. I took Friday off, but I will be up and out early as I have a mammogram appointment at 8:15 a.m.
Sounds like a lovely weekend. Will have to walk the VF River Trail. Christine
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYour weekend, the walk with Dee and your family gathering sound really nice. The weather was perfect for a picnic and eating outside. Your needlework is looking very pretty. Take care, enjoy your day!
We have the same work schedule this week! I do love a short week. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a busy sampler! I see a cute dog in a Sit. Love the pattern at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a pleasant weekend. We did get rained out on Monday--completely!--but the rest of the weekend was beautiful.
Sounds like a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteLike you I'm only working three days this week. It's going to fly!
What a fun weekend you had! I love the bowl of peppers! Beautiful colors! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely to see a photo of Mailing’s father and grandmother. The sampler looks wonderful - great progress!
ReplyDeleteI still don't quite understand your job. Sorry. Can you remind me? It seems like an ideal fluid job with lots of flexibility.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got together with family!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a larger family gathering! Sounds like a good time with Dee, too. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy son brought me over a basket of peppers that look just like yours and I have no idea what to do with them. They are so pretty just sitting here that they just may end up being table decor. They are too hot for me!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to be able to get together with a bigger group of family. That sampler is so unique, the new progress is cool! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteYour delicious descriptions of the food you have prepared and eaten have my mouth watering (as usual)! Your sampler is really coming along and I really like those three bottom panels (in addition to the checkerboard deer)!
ReplyDeleteHi Vera, I'm a bit late tonight in commenting but your post was lovely. I enjoyed reading about the afternoon you and Dee spent together. The family gathering with all of Mailing's family sounds like a lot of fun. I'm so glad that you all get along so well. That's important.
ReplyDeleteI really like what I see of the area that Colin and Mailing live in. It's obvous that Colin really loves his garden area.
Blessings,
Betsy
Sounds like a delightful weekend! Any day that you forget it's a work day is a good thing in my book!
