Unraveled Wednesdy 7-11-18

Good Morning!

What a beautiful morning here in Eastern PA.  Fortunately there was no more unraveling on my Winter Sea Shawl and last night it came off the needles right after dinner!

Once again a less than stellar photo of moi...no make up as I had hopped in the shower as soon as I got home from work.  But, I am not the star of this - the shawl is!  I do love it.  It is slightly asymmetrical and though I like the "puffiness" (for lack of a better word) of this unblocked, I will be blocking it to stretch it out just a bit.  I just need to wait for weather that is not so humid.  The yarn is from Green Mountain Spinnery and is called Cotton Comfort - a mix of cotton and wool.  It was a bit scratchy on my lap, but I knit this to use in the fall and winter when I need something to wrap around me on chilly mornings and evenings.  I think it will be perfect.

After weaving in the ends, I set about swatching for my next "big" project:  Juniper Top in the called-for yarn (Berroco Remix Light).  I guess I'm a tight knitter as I need to go up a needle size to get gauge.  I will be ordering needles today (can't believe I don't have them!!).  The yarn is really nice - it knits up very soft and I think it will be extremely comfortable.  I was a bit annoyed when I weighed a skein as it is off by 3 grams!  It shouldn't make a difference, but I've never had a skein of yarn weigh under what it is supposed to - usually the skeins are a bit more than stated.

Teresa had wanted to see a close up of one of the Rose of Sharon blooms.  Before weaving in the ends on the shawl I ran out with my phone, but the flowers had already started closing for the night.  But look what I captured:

Someone having a late dinner!  This morning I ran out again (before my coffee was even ready!!) and managed to get a shot of an open flower.  Teresa - this one's for you!

They really are pretty, and so plentiful.

On the reading front, I'm still in the midst of Enchantress of Numbers which I am enjoying, though finding it a bit slow.  The first third of the book has been all about her childhood and I think it could have been condensed quite a bit.  Hopefully it will pick up soon!

Well, it's Wednesday, so happy Hump Day.  It's also soft pretzel day here in work-land.  And, a busy day ahead for me, so I'd best get on with it.  Hope you all are doing well!

  3. Your shawl is gorgeous (and I also like the puffiness)! Enchantress of Numbers sounded familiar, so I checked goodreads and it turns out I had read it. I won't say anything else since you're still reading, but it definitely wasn't one of my favorites!

  4. The shawl is stunning! I never think of weighing yarn before a project, but it sounds like it's a good idea. Three grams short is a significant amount.

  5. Congrats on the shawl finish.

If I have the size needle you need, would you want to borrow one? It would get to you quicker. LOL

  6. Just wait til you block that baby out! It's going to open up and look even more gorgeous! There are lots of Rose of Sharon trees in my neighborhood -- but they are not quite putting on their show yet . . . (any day now, I'm sure). Such a beautiful tree -- and so nice that it blooms when everything else is fading at this point in the season. :-)

  8. I'm a tight knitter as well, and it gets even tighter when I watch something riveting. During "Big Little Lies", my gauge went way, way off and completely ruined a project.

  9. The shawl is even better off the needles! Wool/cotton is going to be so nice for the fall. My neighbor has a pink Rose of Sharon but I haven't seen white blooms in ages. Thank you for sharing!
