Tiny Needle Tuesday 11/19/24

 Good Morning!

It is still a little dark here, but the sun is starting to come up.  It's also a little chillier this morning than yesterday or over the weekend.  Did anyone else watch Part 1 of the DaVinci piece pulled together by Ken Burns?  What a mind!!  We'll see Part 2 tonight.

It's Tuesday, so time for a TNT update.  I'm pleased that the door is now the correct width on the house.  There is still a bit to do at the top of the door (more dark color), but the width is now right.  Whew!

There is STILL so much to stitch on this piece.  I'm hoping that I will finish this before the end of the year, but all bets are off.

A week ago I showed one of my Christmas Cacti with numerous buds.  Well...some of them have now opened.

And, we counted at least 19 more buds!  My other two plants are sporting buds as well, but they are not as numerous or as far along.  So pretty!

We have a (shelled) peanut feeder hanging from the edge of our patio roof.  The birds all love to come and dine - sometimes even while we sit on the patio.  I decided to get some peanuts in the shell to put out for the Jays and crows (and the squirrels).  Guess what?  We discovered that deer love peanuts in the shell as well.  Here is the scene from yesterday afternoon.  Snack time!

Mabel and the deer are friends - the deer don't run off when I open the door to let Mabel in or out and they will approach each other (cautiously).  The deer have also become accustomed to Fletch and me.  I know they can be destructive, but I do love having them around.  (I also discovered they like roasted almonds!!  I had a bag of roasted almonds that just were not very good, so I put them out thinking the squirrels would like them...the deer chowed down before the squirrels had a chance!)

I need to remember to go out and harvest some of the French Thyme from our garden.  The other night I used the last of the garden peppers in our dinner and we had the last garden tomatoes at lunch one day.  Fletch said the Swiss Chard in the cold frame is doing well and some of the lettuce (some of the lettuce plants were hit hard by the cold weather a few weeks ago).  I'm thinking a quiche with some chard might make a nice dinner one night!

Here's hoping your week is off to a wonderful start.  Have some fun!

  1. Phew, glad the door is back on track! I know there's a lot left to stitch, but you have made a lot of progress. I also find it rather amusing that the deer aren't afraid of Mabel. Doesn't it make you wonder if they've found some way to communicate?

  2. I am looking forward to the Da Vinci series. Funny to read your deer story right after seeing Kym talk about deer in her garden.

  3. I think your sampler is looking lovely and you've gotten quite a bit done. It will get done all in good time. I know deer like pumpkins but I didn't know how much they liked nuts. They are certainly getting some different and delicious snacks in your yard!

  4. Oh my, that photo of Mabel w/the deer! I see deer all the time in the ravine out back, but rarely in my yard.

  5. Mabel with those deer... oh my gosh! Too cute! Your stitching is just so lovely (and hurrah for correct door placement!) We have hints at snow later this week... although it won't be likely to stick... we are in the 60's today and tomorrow. This weather is crazy!

  6. I'm glad you got the door fixed, I know those things bug me when I'm stitching until I get them right. The project is coming along great.
That photo of Mabel with the deer is priceless. They obviously have no fear of her. It's like wild kingdom in your yard. :-)
    Blessings,

  10. Mabel and the deer make me nervous (I got rushed by a deer once--they can be mean!) but the photo is so cute. I think we're going to save DaVinci for New Year's Eve (although Tim says it is a lot of Da Vinci).

  11. I can't see a Christmas cactus without thinking of my mom. Her laundry room was full of them and when they all bloomed is was quite the sight.
Your deer buddies are so sweet. My neighbor used to have a trough in his backyard that he kept filled up with food for them in the winter. He's in a memory care ward now so the deer are on their own. They don't look like the are suffering from it. We've got some plump deer out there. I guess eating my hostas all summer was good for them.

  12. I know I complain about deer in my garden -- but only because it's a hidden garden (or it used to be . . . ). And the deer have done a LOT of damage in my garden this year. (I have so much time and money invested in my garden, I really hate to see it destroyed.) That said, I love having deer nearby - and I don't mind them in my front gardens so much. But NOT in my backyard!!!! XO (Love the photo of your friendly deer -- and Mabel looking on.)

  14. What pretty stitching. I'm so glad the door is the right width. Look at all those critters getting along together. Maybe there is some hope for the rest of the world.
