Good Morning!
It is grey and damp and overcast here and...drumroll...we have flurries!! Yesterday was so raw and bone chilling. Only around 46 as a high and pretty much rainy all day (which we desperately need). I saw snow north of us on the radar map, but figured we would not get any. And, this won't amount to much or stick or anything, but it sure is pretty to see. Another pretty thing:
Happy plants! The Christmas Cactus on the right actually has two plants in the pot - one red and one pink. The one on the left is a single red plant. Not pictured is my Christmas Cactus from Vermont. Still small buds, but this morning I counted a dozen of them! They seem to be very happy in the office room (which is pretty chilly - I rarely turn the heat on in here).
I want to thank you all for your kind words and well wishes. I'm beginning to feel much better and - importantly - sleeping much, much better.
Now, in the vein of it's always something, our latest "something" is that we need a new water heater! Yup, our current one has started to leak a bit and we noticed that we needed to keep moving up the dial for hot water in the shower. The one we have now was installed in 2004, so not a bad life and I guess we got our money's worth (I don't remember what we paid). Anyway, we have someone coming out Monday to install a new one. I'm thankful we could get an appointment so quickly.
Today will be a baking day for me. I plan to make 4 loaves of cranberry pumpkin pecan bread. One for us, one for C&M and two for friends. Whatever your plans, I hope you have a good Friday and a lovely weekend.
Today's high of 38 is going to feel even colder! I can see fine flurries out my window but I'm not going to get the shovels out yet. Your plants do look happy and seeing Christmas cactus blooms always makes me happy. Sorry about the water heater but at least it sounds like a relatively easy and quick fix. It is always something but I hope it's only good stuff for a while!
ReplyDeleteThat's the way it rolls--one appliance after another! Sorry. Glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you got an answer and are on your way to better, Vera. I can't imagine how awful you must have been feeling. Sounds like you've definitely got some mojo back (per those baking plans!) -- and none too soon before some delicious holiday and family time.
ReplyDeleteLove that photo a few days ago of Mabel and her 'dear' deer friends. Harmony! More of that in the world, Mabel. More of that. ♥
It’s wonderful to have colorful blooms as the weather starts to turn nasty. Enjoy! Happy to hear you are feeling and sleeping better.
ReplyDeleteWe got a little snow mixed with rain yesterday. It's raining today but it's icy cold. I think fall/winter is finally here.
ReplyDeleteFunny that you should mention a new water heater - we just had a guy here to look at our furnace because it's much noisier than it was. He said it will last the winter, but we should start to look at replacements... so the sales guy came out the next day and now we are looking at a furnace/heat pump/water heater package! Lol. The water heater is about as old as the furnace, and while it still seems to be fine that can change... and we don't have a/c at all - so the heat pump will be a nice addition for the summer. Fingers crossed we get the financing approved... if not, I'll be putting away all my pennies to buy a new furnace next year.
We had snow here this morning! It mostly didn't stick, and it's going to be changing over to rain, but it was pretty while it lasted! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Sorry about the water heater -- 10 years isn't bad! It's a pain to have to replace it, but it's something you'll use all the time and is well worth it. Enjoy the good smells in your kitchen with that baking!
ReplyDeleteGlad you feel better but much more glad that you're sleeping better!
ReplyDeleteOur little bundle arrived this afternoon after a sleepless night of waiting by the phone. Grandson #6 needs his birth sampler finished so I know what I'll be working on this weekend-if I can get his mom and dad to commit to a name....lol.
ReplyDeleteBaking in this chilly weather is a good thing. I'm glad you are sleeping better. Take it easy.
ReplyDeleteChecking in, lots of catching up to do. As soon as vision struggles are over. Hope all is well with family.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling and sleeping better but sorry to hear about the water heater. You're right. It's always something. The blooms are wonderful. My orchid just started re-blooming today. It's so exciting to see a flower on it again.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I am so glad to hear that you are feeling (and sleeping!!) better! I hope this all continues!! We got a "dusting" of snow that was melted by mid-morning and it has been a grey, rainy weekend. We need the rain so badly that despite missing the sun... I am happy for so many days of soaking into the ground rain!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas Cacti are lovely... mine is a plethora of blooms right now and I love it!
My only experiences with water heaters (and there've been quite a few) is either it's working or there's water all over the floor... no in between! You're "so lucky" that it's not an emergency, and that your water heater lasts 20 years!! We're lucky to get more than five (incredibly hard water, tho the city's supposed to be working on that).
ReplyDeleteWe preemptively bought a new water heater before the one we had broke. I wanted new and I knew that it was getting close to it's end of life based on the age it was.
ReplyDeleteHaving taken the weekend "off" from my computer, I am certainly late to this party . . . I'm with Vicki, I'm afraid, when it comes to water heaters. We replace them FAR too often (hard water is hard on hot water heaters), and there is never any warning. Always an emergency. Ugh. So I hope by now you're enjoying nice, hot showers again! XO
