Weekending

 Hello and Good (Chilly) Morning!

How was your weekend?  Did you have fun?  Make anything new?  Eat some good food?  I managed to do all those things (plus some of those mundane and pesky chores).

I started knitting one of those headbands that Kym posted about early last week.  This will be for Anna, Mailing's sister and I should have sufficient yarn to make matching fingerless mitts!

(Displayed on one of my Christmassy tablecloths - one that my Mom made and we used decades ago!!)

This is a quick knit and a fun one.  I had thought I would finish it yesterday, but I had made a false start on Friday and had to rip out all that I had knit.  (I needed to get the hang of the first stitch being a yarn over).  I re-started and chugged along.  I am almost finished it, but yesterday the kids were over and I was busy cooking and doing other things.

The yarn is DK weight and like my Aspen socks, it is from Less Traveled Yarn in their Creosote Collection.  The colorway is Prickly Pear.  The band is so squishy - I will definitely be making more of these!

Saturday brought unexpected laundry thanks to Tyg and a MASSIVE hairball right on the guestroom bed!  Geeze.  I have to strip off the comforter, blanket, sheets and wash everything.  It is rare for Tyg to do that (at least rare for him to do that inside...I don't know about outside).  What a mess!

As I mentioned, C&M came over for dinner on Sunday.  We celebrated their birthdays (Mailing's was 11/30 and Colin's is 12/11).  Fletch grilled a leg of lamb and we had tri-colored baby potatoes steamed and a green bean casserole (requested as Mailing had never tasted green bean casserole!!).  And I made a pecan pie.

So good (but so much sugar!!).

Sunday I managed to wrap gifts to be shipped AND got them boxed up and ready to ship.  I will send them out via UPS from my office - most likely tomorrow.  It feels good to have that finished.

And now here we are back at Monday.  Work has already been busy this morning, so I won't be able to do much knitting or fun things during the day...but we shall see.

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend and here's to a great week ahead!

  1. So, did Mailing like green bean casserole?

Love that headband. I hate starting with a YO. I usually have to watch a video to get the hang of it again. It occurs so rarely in projects, at least for me.

Hairballs--Ugh. Stepping in them is pretty awful, too.

  2. I also wondered abut Mailing's reaction to green bean casserole! (It's definitely not one of my favorites.) It does feel like a big accomplishment to get gifts sent off. I just got back from the post office and am celebrating by doing laundry. Hope you get at least some time for knitting today!

  6. Oh Tyg!
Both Rupert AND Relic love to yak up hairballs in the middle of the bed. I wash a lot of sheets around here.

    That pie looks scrumptious!

  7. Pie (practically any kind) is my favorite dessert, and I rarely make anything but pumpkin for the holidays. Green beans are my favorite veggie, but I’m not a fan of green bean casserole.

  9. So glad you're liking the headband, Vera. It's a really quick little project -- and nice to wear, too! That pie looks FAB (I love pecan pie). Although . . . I'd pass on the green bean casserole. . . ;-)

  10. Sounds like you had a very productive weekend. That gift is going to be cherished. It is chilly and raining here today, 55 degrees when I took Little B to school. I love it! Stay safe.

  11. I envy your productivity. My headaches caused me to be way behind in everything I need to be doing. Oh, well....it's not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon. I really need to get over this time constraint thing-at least until the pandemic is over.

  12. I love green bean casserole. Did Mailing like it? I would happily have a BIG piece of the pecan pie too. :-)
The headband looks so soft and squishy. What a great gift idea and fingerless gloves too will be perfect. You're right on track for Christmas arent' you?
Today is Alex's birthday. Tara has arranged a surprise ZOOM call with Jamie, Mandy, me and Alex's best friend. We video taped Dennis and Piper since they won't be at home. Last night she surprised him with a video chat with his friends in Japan. I love how they do those things for each other.
Anyway, I get to ZOOM with all three of our kids in a hour and a half! I'm excited! Since we're all in different time zones, it's rare that all of us are on together.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. I truly adore pecan pie. One year in college, my two roommates and I had a pecan pie bakeoff. We then took turns getting blindfolded and tasting each and rating them. We all picked our own as the best. One of my happiest college memories!

  17. I am planning to do one of those headbands, too, as soon as my holiday knitting is complete. Your dinner sounds like it was delicious (especially the pie!) and like everyone else I'm wondering how Mailing liked the green bean casserole! It's really a relic of a bygone era in cooking, but I still love it!

  18. It's been cold enough here to wear a knit headband! I've been loving short and sweet projects so thanks for the idea! Your weekend sounded lovely!
