Good Morning!
Today is promising to be on the hot and humid side. It's a bit overcast which is helping to keep the temps down at the moment.
I only managed to get 5 more rows finished on the 2nd Watermelon Sock, so no picture. No unraveling of yarn either which is good.
My brain, however, appears to have unraveled. Late last night I realized my driver's license expires next week and I failed to send in the renewal paperwork. Oy! Today I'm going to one of the places for renewal with all my "Real ID" documents and am hoping that will work and I can avoid driving with an expired license. Fletcher's expires in 3 weeks, so his paperwork is going out in the snail mail to Harrisburg today. I'm not sure how I missed sending these in except that they were sitting on the kitchen table as opposed to being in the "to be paid" folder I keep.
Yesterday did see the finish of two books! First, Fletch and I finished reading another book by Jules Verne - Around the World in 80 Days - a fun and very short book. 20,000 Leagues is still my favorite Jules Verne book, but this one was very enjoyable. And on my Kindle I finished Next Year in Havana - a chick-lit type book with Cuban history at the time Castro took over up to present day. It was a pleasant diversion.
Well, time to get some work done so I can get over to the license center before it becomes mobbed. Linking up with Kat and friends.
I have a small pile of things that are close to due date on my desk and need to figure out a new way to hang on to those details - just remembering isn’t working these days.
ReplyDeleteWishing you good luck and short lines at the license center! NJ isn't even issuing Real ID licenses yet. I need to make sure my passport is up to date so I'll be able to fly while NJ drags its feet.

ReplyDeleteDave once drove on an expired license for over a year. It was after he finally moved in with me, and he forgot to update the address, so the mail went to his Mom's. She said she never saw the renewal papers, so who knows what happened to it.
ReplyDeleteHe only realized it was expired when he went to renew his health card and tried to use his license as ID. The woman at the health office wouldn't accept it because it was expired. Had he let it go a few months longer, his license would have become null and void and he would have had to do his beginners all over again - which here means 2 years of restrictions (they call it graduated licensing) First year - you have to drive with a licensed driver in the front passenger seat (4 years experience at least), you can't drive on major highways, you can't have any alcohol in your system, and you can only drive between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. After a year of that you do a road test and if you pass, you don't need a licensed driver and you can go on the highway (other restrictions remain). Once another year as passed you do a highway test and FINALLY you're a regular driver.
Oh, I just love Around the World in 80 Days! When I was a sophomore in high school, we read it (in French) in my French class . . . then we made a video "play" of the story and won a big prize at a foreign language festival. It's one of my favorite high school memories -- so thanks for the little trip down memory lane. XOXO

ReplyDeleteWe do our license renewal by the internet for 12 years before you have to get a new photo taken. That makes it real convenient. Dennis and I both had to renew ours the same year until now. Last year they started a gradulated renewal system and somehow now we are two years off from each other. Now we have to remember more often and that's dangerous! :-)

I renewed my driver's license in April - gathering all the necessary documents wasn't as much of a hassle as some people reported. I hope you're able to get a temporary quickly and be on your way.
ReplyDeleteMy mom drove with an expired license for quite some time, eventually discovered when she was pulled over for speeding (I get my lead foot from her!). She told the cop that she'd never seen the renewal, and he said that, regardless of what she did or did not receive, it was her responsibility to take care of it! I just had mine renewed last year (for my Big Birthday) and they gave me a temporary paper one. I was just thinking about how I hate the photo on that license with the power of 10,000 suns... and contemplated "losing" it so I could have a re-do. Haha. (I hate it that much! Willing to voluntarily go to the DMV!)

ReplyDeleteThe Mister spent 4 hours trying to get that new driver's license ID done. The line was around the block. Our state just said that 500,000 drivers have failed to come up with the proper documents and will have their license suspended. I have not had my notification yet to come in but I already spent $100 getting a certified birth certificate because mine didn't have a watermark. Ouch. I wonder what people who can't afford that will do. What a racket. Araignee
ReplyDeleteWow, finishing two books is a lot. I finished "Where the Crawdads Sing" and it was excellent. Now I'm reading "The Sea" by John Banville and I'm finding it hard to get into. But I will soldier on and keep trying. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading all the requirements for renewing my driver's license...a pain! I hope you get your papers together and get it done soon. I won't share what I really think about the whole process!
