Unraveled Wednesday 2/23/22

 Hello and Good Morning!

It is 5:30 in the morning and our temp is hovering around 60!  Unbelievable.  It will be pleasant today.  I know these temps won't last, but I'll enjoy them while they are here.  (I also check Austin weather in the morning to make sure the kids are ok - lol - and their temp is only in the 40's this morning - go figure.)

I must have been on the computer too much yesterday morning because my back really bothered me grocery shopping and throughout the day.  But...I slept like a rock from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. - a solid 8 hours with no discomfort whatsoever!  Woohoo!

Today I will be heading to the office to make copies of all our tax stuff that I will drop off with our accountant later this week.  But first it is Unraveled Wednesday and, as usual, I am linking up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to talk making and reading.

There has been progress with the Terrarium Socks!

Sock #1 is finished and Sock #2 has just 15 rows to go until the toe decrease.  I thought I might wrap that last sock up last night, but I found myself closing my eyes at 8:15 as I was knitting.  That is not a good thing - lol.

On the reading side of things, I have not finished a book!  Really, very little reading has been accomplished (primarily due to the back - I couldn't get in a comfortable position to hold a book and read).  Fletch and I are still reading Shady Hollow together after dinner.  This is definitely not great literature, but it is a fun little read and I just love that one of the characters is named Vera Vixen!  I also love the cover of the book.  The Guncle is becoming slow reading for me.  Initially I enjoyed and found the story pretty funny.  Now I am struggling to finish it.  To me it seems very cliched.  I'm only half way through it and it is due back at the library tomorrow.  I may return it and try it again later...or I may just keep it till I finish and pay a little fine.

Well, time to pour another cup of coffee and wake up Fletch.  Enjoy the day!

  1. It sounds like your back is improving, Vera, and that's happy news. Somehow, healing injuries always let us know when we've crossed a line and done "too much too soon" (which is really annoying, but there you go). I'd trade a good night's sleep for trouble with the shopping. . . Hope things continue moving in a more comfortable direction!

I love the way the socks are turning out. The striping is really nice! And I know what you mean about The Guncle, but I enjoyed it. I read it right after the holidays, and I needed something light and fun at the time.

  2. A good night's sleep is a wonderful thing, and I'm hoping you will keep healing so you'll soon be comfortable during the day. Your socks are looking great and will soon be done. I envy you and Fletch reading together after dinner. John doesn't read at all, and probably not even if I read to him!

  3. I have some more Static in the stash and every time I see your socks I have to talk myself out of casting another pair on for myself. I don't have the attention span for multiple projects at the moment but I do love that yarn.

  4. I'm sure a good, solid night's sleep is helping a lot. Clearly you needed it if you were nodding off while trying to knit! But I'm betting that sock gets finished up very soon.

  5. I will be casting on the second sock later today! This pattern is just a joy to knit and I think I might need to knit another pair of socks in this pattern!!

The Guncle came through for me with an avalanche of holds so it went back to the "hold queue" and now I am wondering if it is just not smarter to let it go for now and maybe try it later!

  6. Your reading is like my knitting. I just can't seem to get in to any of it.

I need a good sunny day to sit outside and knit, but I'm guessing that day is still awhile off.

  7. Oh, I do like those sox!
I'm unable to knit or read these days. Other things are commanding my brain and my time. Things should ease up by Sunday. Yay!

  8. Nice socks! It's -36F wind chill right now. So hard to do anything outside. I need to go to the grocery store today but I'm procrastinating.
I have had trouble reading books since we got here. The attention span of a gnat! I turned to books I download from the library and listen to them on my phone while I stitch or knit. The entire time I worked at the camper last week I had my book on. It was great!
Enjoy the warmth Vera. Ours didn't last but I know will return soon.
    Blessings and hugs,

  9. The socks are moving right along--glad you are doing a bit better and the good night's sleep is just what you needed!

  10. Sock is looking good - though you're making me want to go fill my cart with yarn at Knit Picks!

  11. Happy to hear you slept8 hours without any pain: that’s a wonderful step forward. Lately, I’m lucky if I knit or sew once a week. I just don’t have any motivation to do it.

  12. Great looking sock, glad you are knitting and that you had a good night's sleep. Take it easy!

  13. Taxes. Crap! I forgot until you mentioned it and we always owe a lot. But still in a better place than many others so I won't complain.

We had a warmup, we had the rain, the snow is a'coming back.

  14. Vera Vixen is a fun name! Ha! Your socks are looking great and I'm glad you fell asleep nice and early. Rest is a good thing!

I hope you continue to feel better, Vera!

  15. I keep hoping your back heals quickly. I am trying to get through a second sock, slowly but surely.
