Hi Everyone,
First of all, thanks to you who emailed me wondering if I was ok. I'm ok, just not moving too well!
Last week (Monday the 7th) I was dumb and attempted to lift something way too heavy for me. Result: pulled muscle in my lower back. Wow! I've never done anything like this and didn't realize how painful it is.
I rested and took Advil but by this past Monday it was worse, so I call my doctor who prescribed a drug. It has done nothing, so I called again this morning and just got back from my appointment. Thankfully she is positive it is a pulled muscle (versus a herniated disc) based on how I could move my legs and hips and the fact that I have no tingling or numbness in my legs. My real problem is that there is no position I am comfortable in. Sitting, standing, walking, laying down - they all hurt. So, Fletch is on his way to the drugstore to pick up stronger meds. I will also get an xray of my spine (just to be sure). Hopefully tonight I can sleep more than 1.5 hours in a row!
Sadly I have not been able to get into a position that will allow me to knit or stitch or even read! It is horrible!!!
All of this to say that I won't be blogging the rest of this week. I'm still working, but need to limit my time sitting at the computer. I've tried to catch up on a few blogs, but really have not been able to do much. I will catch up with you all later.
Hope everyone is well!!
Ugh! I'm so sorry you're experiencing this and I hope it's better soon!
ReplyDeleteHeal quickly! Back pain is no fun, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! I was just going to send you a "checking in" email when I saw that you had posted. I am so sorry to hear about your back issue, Vera. I hope you are able to get some good rest -- but I know how hard that is when you can't find a comfortable position. I am sending ALL my best juju your way. XOXO
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear this, Vera! As the wife of a long-time back pain patient (and three surgeries), I feel for you and understand how limiting it can be. I do hope drugs work, you can find some position that's comfortable, and you heal soon. (Have you tried Aspercreme? It's a topical otc cream that contains aspirin. John thinks it helps to have me rub it on the sore area and you can use it in between taking drugs and using the heating pad.) I wish you well!
ReplyDeleteRest and let your body heal itself.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you are hurt but am relieved to hear from you! Think about acupuncture when you can move more easily. It could be a game changer.
ReplyDeleteGet better! Back pain is awfu1. have you seen the new commercia1 where the man keeps saying he's fine and he's trying to pick up the channe1 c1icker with his toes. You just rest. we wi11 be here!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I have had a pulled muscle in my back and it is not fun. Take good care. Rest well.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry. I understand back issues. I spent yesterday moving stuff into the camper and today I've been flat on my back. Not the pain you have, which I'm sure is much worse. Mine are spasms.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be here when you feel better. Just rest and get better.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Hi, Vera! I'm wishing you all the best and a quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. That is miserable. I've done that to myself several times and it is just awful. I missed the whole first week of school once many years ago it was that bad. I hope you are on the mend soon. Just remember to give it a few more days after it starts feeling better. Trust me on this.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that sounds just plain awful. Feel better, Vera - I hope Mabel will give you some cuddles that are comfy!
ReplyDeleteOh Vera! I am so so so sorry. Rest... heal... repeat. I hope the new meds work and soon!
ReplyDeleteI was just about to email you and make sure everything is ok!
ReplyDeleteI know your pain - literally - I've pulled back muscles so many times it's not funny. AND I have a herniated disc. I agree with your dr... the pain from a herniated disc tends to be more numbness/tingling + pain, and if its not, it's not as intense. A pulled muscle can be extremly intense. I've had those can't get comfortable, sleepless nights. Other things to try on top of the pain meds are heat - you can use heating pads, but I find icy gel, voltaren or creams like that to be more convenient. And I know it sounds silly, but move as much as you can. Don't push it, but try to get a little movement in if you can. It will help.
Sending lots of good healing thoughts.
Oh, Vera. I'm so very sorry. Back pain is the worst because it affects every single moment and facet of your life. I'm grateful that it isn't a herniated disc or displaced vertebrae. As Wanderingcatstudio said, movement is so helpful even though it seems impossible. I understand this as the wife of a man with a back full of metal and arthritis and spinal issues. Take good care and do whatever the doctor tells you. I'll be thinking of you. XO
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about about your back! I did the exact same thing back in October, and I was shocked at how painful it was. It was worse than my kidney stones.
ReplyDeleteIt took a while for my back to get better -- but it did get better!
I'm glad you posted because I was worried and was about to email you to make sure you were okay! Thanks for updating us -- and don't worry about doing anything on the computer until you feel well enough to do it. I hope the new drug does the trick!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your pain and agony! I hope the stronger meds can help while you wait for your muscles to heal!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Vera! If all else fails to offer some relief, I hope there is an injection that can help.
ReplyDeleteI have been there and it is awful!! I eventually went to PT and did ultrasound treatments and heat treatments - they helped some but it just takes time. i hope you feel better soon!!! You have my sympathy. I pulled my back picking up that toddler in an awkward position!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Vera! I'm so sorry. I've suffered that type of back pain on/off for most of my life. I've learned how to move & do things to prevent that strain, but it still happens occasionally. I've always found alternating hot/cold packs to be helpful, along with movement, and massage. I remember one year when the kids were still in elementary school (5-6 blocks away), I walked to pick them up -- at a snail's pace and I'm sure the neighbors were all wondering what's up with THAT? I took it slow (because who cares about the neighbors) and it really helped. I've found that massage will not provide immediate relief, but it sure helps to loosen up those tight muscles. My very best to you, and I hope you're up at 'em again SOON!! xoxo
