Unraveled Wednesday 11-6-19

Good Morning All,

On this Unraveled Wednesday I bring you a HO finish and the start of the second sock (no second sock syndrome allowed!! - especially when these will be a Christmas gift).

I did not finish the sock at lunch yesterday (I did a Trader Joe's run instead), but managed to finish it after dinner last night and promptly cast on for #2.  I was able to get 10 rows of ribbing finished (Sock #1 has 15 rows of ribbing at the cuff) and  am hoping to add to that at lunch today.  The above picture is more true to the colors in the yarn than the picture I posted yesterday.  I still think of confetti when I look at this sock and the yarn.  It's fun!

My reading slump seems to be continuing.  I'm sure it will change and I am waiting for some good (I think/hope) books to come through on Overdrive.  I picked up Island by Alistair MacLeod again.  The writing is so good, but the stories are SO bleak that I can't read much of it at once.

Today my main thing is to enroll for benefits for the coming year.  Yup, it's open enrollment time (and it is NOT passive - you have to enroll each year or you lose your benefits) when we get to find out how much MORE our health insurance will cost.  Crazy expensive...but even crazier expensive if you don't have insurance.

Linking up with Kat on this Unraveled Wednesday.  Head on over to find out what others are making and reading.  It's a great place to be tempted with other projects and a great place to hear about books.

  2. I love that yarn so much! Great HO! :)

And, you are so right on health care. It is mightily depressing!

  3. Enrolling in insurance ---- fun times for sure. We are starting the Medicare process. Sheesh .... you need an advanced degree to figure all this stuff out.

  4. The yarn DOES look like confetti. We pay a fortune for health insurance through work and yet our deductibles and co-pays are crazy. I'm sure my mammogram, ultrasound and bone density test yesterday will be in the $1000 range out of our pocket. It does get depressing.
    Enjoy the sock knitting.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. We do benefit enrollment every two years, and it's always a pain.
The sock looks awesome - I love the colours in that yarn. The recipient is very lucky!

  7. I admit that I'm passive about the Open Enrollment time. I have a good policy and don't want to rock the boat. Love your sock and the yarn!

  8. I hate insurance time, and I'm sure I'll hate it even more when I have to navigate Medicare (sooner than I want).

That yarn reminds me of the confetti angel food cake I always requested on my birthday when I was a little girl.

  10. I love the confetti socks. I have knitted exactly ONE pair of socks.. cotton yarn.. also confetti-ish. And I've lost one. ARGH. I've read one book I did NOT like.. "Queen Bee" by Dorothea Benton Frank and am now on one I'm liking much better, "The Royal Secret" by Lucinda Riley. Good luck with your forms. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. I love the confetti yarn - so very cheerful. I have a second sock at about the same point as yours. Since I am waiting for some library holds to come, I fell back on an English mystery. Others find the series dull but sometimes I rather like the comfort of a predictable plot and familiar characters.

  12. well ugh about the reading slump ... hope that turns around for you soon - I really enjoyed the Erica Bauermeister books (read one and listened to the other) to make me feel simply GOOD!

  13. Love that yarn; reminds me I have a half pair in the wings...hmmm, wonder where it might be?
    Enjoy your weekend!
    Cheers~

  14. lovely sock! I would not like to have to enroll each year...we just get automatically enrolled in what we have if we do not want to change.

  15. I hear you on the open benefits issues and costs and yet lesser than if no enrollment from an employer! Gheesh. I also , absolutely cannot read bleak books or watch bleak shows or movies. Too much bleak in being a bedside nurse for 30 years and watching life end for too many. So I stay with happy books mostly. OR educational books . Non fiction .

  16. I'm "thankful" that my insurance only went up "a little." It was more unpleasant last year with a milestone birthday.
