The Next Sock

Good Morning!

I'm happy to write that the sun is OUT this morning.  It came up like a giant red beach ball and now it is shining brightly.  It is actually supposed to get up to 55 or so today.  I guess our crazy roller coaster weather is just going to continue.

Last night I was able to get a start on my little brother's socks for Christmas.

The ribbing (15 rows) of the cuff is finished.  The yarn is Lorna's Laces and the colorway is "Baltic Sea."  It is knitting up kind of muddy/grey, but looking at the cake, you can see there are browns, blues and greens in it.  I may need to add a bit of a pop of color at the heel and/or toe.  I plan to use the pattern Petty Harbour (free on Ravelry) which I have knit before.  It's a simple pattern (4 row repeat) that is easy to memorize.  Hopefully that means I can get this pair of socks finished in time to mail to CO for Christmas.

This will be a short day at work.  Our Thanksgiving luncheon is in Glen Mills at Noon which means leaving the office around 11 a.m.  And...if tradition holds, Bobby will just tell everyone to go home after the lunch.  That works for me - perhaps I can catch a quick nap since Fletch and I are going to the George Winston concert tonight.

With that, I guess I'd best get going on what I need/want to accomplish today.  Hope everyone's Tuesday is shaping up well.

  1. I love Lorna's Laces colors, but I have terrible issues with pooling with her yarns (must be the gauge I knit at!)

This mild weather is such a nice thing!

  6. Temperatures have certainly been on a roller coaster. Nice today, and tomorrow will be snowy. Your brother will appreciate the wool socks this winter. Love the yarn color. Enjoy the lunch and your free afternoon.

  7. The yarn reminds me of an oil slick (in a good way). It will make nice man socks.

Have a good time at lunch AND at the concert tonight.

  8. That is great yarn for mens socks. Perfect color and I use the Petty Harbour pattern frequently. We have had gray skies for days and snow predicted for next week. I haven't left the house since last Wednesday and I still feel awful. The coughing has commenced. I HAVE to get better. Our kids are coming home beginning Monday.
I hope you get to have your afternoon free and have fun at the concert.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. It's seems like it's going to be a rare nice day here too. It's wet but not freezing. I'm even going to open the windows for a while to get some fresh air in here. I'm not ready to hunker down for winter just yet.

  13. I also think the socks are perfect for a guy. A different color toe and heel might be nice, too. How nice to have a skill to make something people will love and wear. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  15. I love the subtle colors in that yarn! Can't wait to see how the socks knit up! I saw George Winston in Portland, OR, about 35 years ago... I was super pregnant with Kate and took my shoes off during the concert & couldn't get them back on because my feet swelled so much! Haha.
