The First Finish of the Year!!

Good Chilly Morning!

As is often the case on cold mornings, the sunrise was gorgeous:

That's what I saw this morning as I left my house later than normal (I had a bit of  trouble getting my motor going this morning...I wanted to crawl back into bed).

Our weekend was nice...nothing special which is fine.  It was easy going - a few errands, minimal chores, some knitting and some reading.  We all took naps...including Tyg:

He obviously has no shame at all - lol.  He has also been enjoying dozing under the Christmas tree (let's not discuss that it is still up...).

Last week I finished The Feather Thief which I enjoyed.  My first reading finish for 2019!  It ended up being shorter than I expected (because of so many pictures at the end) and I thought it ended rather abruptly, but still a good read.  Since I read it on my Kindle, I want to go to the library to look at the *real* book so I can see the pictures in color.  I've started reading Life in the Garden but am not thrilled with it so far.  However, I've only read a small amount, so will try a bit more.

Best of all, I had my first knitting finish of 2019.  The Arctic Fox socks are off the needles and waiting for Colin to come over at some point.

I wish the solid color at the end of the foot wasn't quite so large...but it had to be in order for the socks to fit.  There is just a small amount of the other yarn left.  Overall I'm pleased with them and more than ready to move on to something else.  Yarn for Fletcher's cowl is on its way to us, so there is that.  And today I brought a new skein of blue yarn to work to hopefully cast on for a hat for moi!

Fletch and I watched the first episode of Killing Eve last night.  I'm not sure about it - it might be a bit intense for me and I'm not a huge Sandra Oh fan.  Fletch really liked it.  We watched it on Hulu and I was annoyed by the commercials...so that may be part of my problem with it also.  I'm spoiled with Netflix and Acorn TV.  Have any of you seen it?

Today should be a relatively easy one at work, so I'm looking forward to having a relaxing lunch (with knitting/reading).  On my drive into work this a.m., I heard on the radio that we have a chance of sleet after 2 a.m. tomorrow and then, possibly, some snow.  Hopefully nothing too much!!

  1. I loved Killing Eve but it is intense. I am a big sissy when it comes to suspense and violence but I managed to stick it out. I saw it on BBC America and you can't get more commercials than that. I am also spoiled by Netflix and Prime.
The socks are great! Woo hoo for the big finish.

  2. Commercials and real winter weather...how dare they!? We've gotten spoiled, haven't we? ;-)

Listen, when I was a kid, my mother set records for leaving our live Xmas tree up. Until you are hanging paper shamrocks on it in March--AND NO, I AM NOT KIDDING--you are doing okay.

  4. I am so confused about Netflix Hulu Prime and others. Have no idea which or what to check into!

  6. I love Colin's socks; congratulations on your first finish, barely a week into 2019! You can upgrade Hulu to no commercials if you're interested. I think it's just a few dollars more/month. I cancelled cable TV at both houses and have Netflix, Prime, and Hulu, all with no commercials. I'm definitely spoiled!

  7. Socks look great - next time you could try doing the heels in a contrast colour - they save you a little yard so the toes don't have to be so big. But I think it looks fine the way it is.
Love Tyg! Burton is always belly-up around here and I think it's the sign of a very happy cat!

  8. I love seeing the crazy positions cats sleep in! :-) I have not watched Killing Eve (yet). I don't have Hulu, but I find plenty to watch on Netflix, Prime (with BritBox), and HBO! Definitely spoiled. . . I really liked Life in the Garden, but . . . it's not going to be for everyone. I read it slowly over a long period of time, and I really savored much of what Penelope Lively had to say about gardening. But. Like I said, it's not going to be for everyone! :-)

  9. Socks are great. Glad you had a fun laid back weekend. t's one of the things I need to learn to do. Knit socks. I'm not a fan of Oh either. As you said some of those shows are to intense, to graphic. Some things can be left to the imagination, nothing is anymore. Have a great week.

  11. Those socks look great and the solid color is not too big at all. After all, it will be inside of his shoe! Love the picture of Tyg. Very comfortable. I don’t know how cats contort themselves into such shapes. I hope your day is a good one at work and the storm isn’t too bad tonight.
    Blessings always, Betsy

  12. Colin's socks look great.

You know, sometimes I really wish I could just chill out and relax like a cat.

  13. Your 2019 is off to an awesome FINISH(ing start!) Sara's #1 recommendation for us to watch is Killing Eve. She gave Marc a Hulu subscription for Christmas so we no longer have an excuse .... interesting to read the comments here about it. I'll certainly let you know what we think!

  14. Bravo on the sock finish! I really admire sock knitters. I've done *ONE* pair but when I wear them I feel each stitch.. I am used to very fine cotton socks that are smooth. I do want to try again, though. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
